Hi friends! Today I am sharing my swatches for the August 2024 Polish Pickup! As someone who loves reading (don’t judge my GoodReads haha), I was SO excited about this month’s theme! This month’s PPU shop opened up this morning and I have already picked up FIVE nail polishes.

If you are new to Polish Pickup aka PPU, it’s a monthly indie nail polish collaboration featuring a ton of different indie brands from all over the globe. They get together to sell limited edition products for one weekend every month. The August shop will be open through this Monday. Bee’s Knees Lacquer – Little Serpent

Inspiration: The hardcover of The Serpent and the Wings of Night
Description: a smoky blue base with rich cobalt shimmer
Price: for 15ml | No Cap

If you have been wanting BKL to release more opaque style shimmers, you’ll likely be very happy with this one. This polish leans more into the creme/crelly department with the opacity.

My photos show Little Serpent in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I don’t see too many people needing more than two coats for this one. I didn’t personally experience staining with this one but I would for sure suggest making sure to wear base coat.

KBShimmer – Just My Type

Inspiration: romance book covers
Description: A light purple base shows off a shimmer that shifts through nearly a full spectrum of color. In some light, the purple tones take on a pink hue, shifting to gold and lime. Other angles accentuate the purple, with blues coming out to play. In bright light, gold pops against the purple while the shimmer sparkles for a unique and captivating shade

The color shifts in this polish were so stunning! It’s almost like a pastel rainbow of color shifts.

My photos show Just My Type in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I did have VNL with this polish but nothing major.

Sweet & Sour Lacquer – If Looks Could Kill

Inspiration: Goosebumps – The Haunted Mask
Description: a purple jelly base with purple/red shimmer, neon green hex glitter, neon blue hex glitter and peach hex glitter!
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: 500 bottles

The addition of the glitters make for this to have such a unique look to it. They do give off some textured so depending on how thick of a top coat you have, you’re going to want 1-2 coats of top coat to smooth everything out.

I don’t know why but I knew I wanted to see what this looked like with a matte top coat and it looks even better.

My photos show If Looks Could Kill in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I think with shorter nails of thicker coats this could be a 2 coater. The glitter will for sure make removal more difficult so use the soak off method or a peel off base coat.
