Hi friends! Today I am sharing the newest release from Bee’s Knees Lacquer. This collection is inspired by the book The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent. The book itself sounds really interesting (think: vampires, romance, and magic!).

This collection launches Friday, August 15th on the Bee’s Knees Lacquer website as well as their international stockist pages. Along with this release, there will also be some mystery bags inspired by the book The Girl With No Reflection as well as overpours from the Elden Ring Part 1 collection. As always, I will have more sale information at the end of the post.

All of my swatches are done using 3 coats of polish (unless noted) over a peel off base coat and of course with glossy top coat.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free, cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Give Me One Honest Thing

Description: a deep ivy green with glowy purple shimmer

I think this one is going to be a solid 3 coater unless you use it as a topper. It starts off a little uneven on the first two coats.

I thought this was going to be a dupe for Mooncats Garden Of Evil (Seasons of Persephone). Garden of Evil has a holographic element to it but the two are very similar. I think the BKL is a bit more sheer though.

Heir

Description: a black polish with fine particle magnetic holo shimmer

I loved this one! It’s much more opaque than I expected, this is one of the polishes that I did in two coats.

The holographic flame is STUNNING. I used a ring magnet on my middle nail and a horseshoe magnet on my ring finger.

UPDATE: The brand is pulling Heir from the release due to a pigment issue

Love Is Sharper Than Any Stake

Description: a blackened ruby with glowy red to gold shimmer

The red shift is the predominant color, I found the gold came in at extreme angles.

Not Tonight

Description: a steel blue Lion cousin with purple shimmer and a ton of holo flakes

The only notes I wrote down this for one were “OMG I LOVED THIS”. So there you go. It’s gorgeous.

You Have F*cking Destroyed Me

Description: a turquoise Lion cousin with cyan to pink shimmer and a ton of holo flakes

The shimmer looks teal to purple to my eye.

You’re My Queen 

Description: a sage green Lion cousin with cyan to pink shimmer and a ton of holo flakes

I had a little bit of VNL with this one. Once again the shimmer looked more teal to purple to my eye.

Your Heart Is My Heart

Description: a rusty pink with glowy pink to red shimmer

This is one of the more creme/crelly leaning shimmers the brand has been doing as of late. My photos show Your Heart Is My Heart in 2 coats plus glossy top coat.

Your Pain Is My Pain

Description: a blackened amethyst with glowy purple shimmer

I thought for sure that Your Pain Is My Pain was going to be a dupe for Hot Dog (Polish Pickup February 2024). While they’re not exact dupes, I would say they’re still really similar and you probably don’t need both.

Your Soul Is My Soul

Description: a sheer off-white multichrome that shifts from green to purple

This is a pretty sheer polish so I did have very obvious VNL.

Final Thoughts

I loved that this collection had such a moody Falloween color story vibe! I appreciated that there was a lot of variety in finishes as well as opacity levels.

Unfortunately, my top picks are going to be Heir and Not Tonight with Give Me One Honest Thing getting an honorable mention because I love me a prugly green.
