Bee’s Knees Lacquer Heartless Hunter

Sponsored Post, post disclosure page

Hi friends! Today I am sharing some new releases from Bee’s Knees Lacquer. This blog post in particular is for the Heartless Hunter collection. This collection is inspired by the book by Kristen Ciccarelli.

We have 9 polishes total, largely shimmers but also some magnetics, a multichrome, reflectives as well as a dash of holographic!

The Heartless Hunter collection will be available starting on April 16th on the BKL website. There will also be some mystery bags and a charity polish. As always, all sale details can be found at the end of the post!

Bee’s Knees Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free, cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Arcana

Description: a red to gold multichrome with violet to blue magnetic shimmer. $14.50

Arcana um WOW. I did not expect to like this one nearly as much as I did. You get nearly a rainbow on the nail thanks to the multichrome base and the magnetic shimmer.

The formula was fantastic and the base didn’t feel overly thick or thin. The red to gold multichrome also has a hint of green at extreme angles.

I used my new 30lb horseshoe magnetic for my swatches. That magnet gives polish the velvet effect that’s so popular at the moment. The velvet effect doesn’t photograph great IMO but seeing it in the video will knock your socks off. Or at least it knocked mine off.

My photos show Arcana in 2 coats unmagnetized and in 3 coats magnetized. I’ll call this a 2-3 coater depending on your own personal preference. Removal will be pretty easy.

Be Like The Mimic Spider

Description: a charcoal base with strong blue shimmer

Be Like The Mimic Spider I am a little surprised that the base color on this polish is described as charcoal, on the first couple of coats I would have sworn this had a prugly green.

Formula was fantastic but this is a sheer polish so you do need to build it up to gain opacity. If you go in for thicker coats that I did, you could get this to appear slightly more opaque but it won’t reach full opacity.

The shimmer is super strong in this polish. It is slightly color shifty, I was seeing a tealish blue to blue color shift in person.

My photos show Be Like The Mimic Spider in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Super easy removal on this one and I didn’t experience any staining.

Casting

with flash

Description: a pink Lemon sibling, this is a clear base with strong pink shimmer and a scattering of silver light reflective glitter

Casting oh how happy I am that we have a PINK Lemon sibling!! This had a fantastic formula, slightly thicker than the shimmer as this does have glitter but is by no means overly thick.

Since this is in a clear base you can use it built up on its own or as a topper over any color. I personally love wearing these built up but just know, even when built up you won’t be able to reach full opacity.

The reflective glitter in this polish is so beautiful. You do get some texture from the glitters and they will also make removal more difficult if you opt to scrub them off.

The shimmer in this polish shifts from a pink, orange, gold/yellow with green at very extreme angles. Mainly the colors you see on the nail are the pink and orange.

My photos show Casting in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Use the soak off method or a peel off base coat for the easiest removal experience.

Earth Sunderer

Description: a grungy brown with strong purple to pink shimmer. $14

Earth Sunderer I love the BKL has been releasing so many prugly shades lately! This is a pretty sheer polish so you do need to build it up to get any kind of opacity going. You won’t be able to reach full opacity with it without an opaque base.

Formula was fantastic, and it applied very evenly. I am not sure what Sarah added to the base to make it go from a regular brown to a grungy brown. I *think* it might be a dash of green?

The shimmer is super strong and very glowy. I was seeing the colors as described.

My photos show Earth Sunderer in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.

Ghost Walker

Description: ghostly gray with strong purple to pink shimmer

Ghost Walker is a pale grey version to Earth Sunderer. It’s a very sheer but really stunning polish.

Once again, we have a great but very sheer formula. You need to build this one up to be able to see the base color on the nails. I found in person this leans a little bit towards taupe.

I kinda wish this was a different shade of grey, I wasn’t a huge fan of the taupey-ness but the shimmer was so pretty.

My photos show Ghost Walker in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.

Majora

Description: a mid-toned peach with strong green shimmer

Majora I did NOT expect to like this color nearly as much as I did. While the base is a little bit peachy, I found paired with the shimmer on me it leaned more towards being a yellowy orange.

While this is still a pretty sheer nail polish, it does have pretty decent opacity. Especially in comparison to the previous polish in this release.

The shimmer shows some brush strokes when wet but the lines do disappear as the polish dries down.

My photos show Majora in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.

Minora

Description: a champagne brown with silver magnetic shimmer

Minora I found in person Minora leans a little bit toward a terracotta shade.

Minora had a fantastic formula but it is one of those magnetic polishes that get more sheer when you magnetize them. It magnetized super easily for me.

I used a ring magnet for my swatches and found this magnetized very easily. I did notice a few pigment specs on my nails. They dried down a little bit textured, I could feel one of them after top coating. I gave BKL a headsup about that so hopefully it won’t be an issue for customer bottles.

My photos show Minora in 3 coats magnetized and unmagnetized.

Mirage

with flash

Description: a mid-toned purple with glowy green to blue shimmer and a scattering of silver light reflective glitter. $14.50

Mirage had a fantastic but very sheer formula. This is another one of the colors in the release that won’t reach full opacity even when built up in 3 coats.

I found on the nail this looks more like a pinky purple than a mid-toned purple. The shimmer is one of those shimmers that photograph a little bit less saturated than they appear in person. I darkened my lighting for photo #4 to better show the actual color of the shimmer.

My photos show Mirage in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. The reflective glitter do give this polish quite a bit of texture so you will want one to two coats of top coat for a smooth finish.

I had originally thought this was going to be a reflective glitter version of Through Love All Is Possible (House of Flame and Shadow). The base colors are different and the shimmer is slightly different.

The Crimson Moth

Description: a brick red with glowy green shimmer and loaded with holo flakes

The Crimson Moth had a fantastic formula. The shimmer in here has a strong green to blue color shift.

While this isn’t technically a Lion sibling, this does give a similar vibe to those polishes. The holographic is really gorgeous.

I am going to call this one a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. Coverage is pretty good in two coats if you don’t mind obvious VNL. If you want to reach opacity, you will want to go in for a third coat. The third coat deepens the base color on top of adding opacity.

My photos show The Crimson Moth in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. The holographic flakies do not dry down textured and they won’t make removal difficult.

Final Thoughts

This was a fun release. I will admit, the highlight of the whole thing for me was Casting as I am really excited to see more Lemon siblings. Lemon was my favorite BKL polish last year.

I appreciate that this release has a variety of finishes even if this is a shimmer heavy collection. I love shifty shimmers so no complaints from me.

My top picks are going to be Casting and Arcana.
