Polish Pickup August 2020 | Weird Science

*PRESS SAMPLES* Today I have swatches of some upcoming Polish Pickup polishes! The theme for August is Weird Science. These will be released on August 7th at 11AM Eastern time on the PolishPickup website. For international customers, the shop opens Thursday, August 6th at 1600GMT on PolishPickup.co.uk.

In case you are new, Polish Pickup is a monthly collaboration of indie polish and products based on a chosen theme. There’s a new theme with new products each month. Items are available the first Friday – Monday of each month for pre-order at PolishPickup.com. The polishes are shipped together, for one low flat rate price of $3 (U.S. orders).

I received all of these as PR in exchange for photos and reviews. My photos are on my acrylic nails with both glossy and matte top coat. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Heather’s Hues – Beat The Heat

Inspiration: Tesla’s “rainbow glass”
Price: $12.50 for 15ml Cap: 500 US / 35 UK

Beat The Heat is a solar polish that is described as bright orange indoors and shades of pink, fuchsia, and purple in the sun. It’s kissed with iridescent purple-pink-gold-green shimmer, iridescent flakes in orange-pink-gold-green, and a hint of holo sparkle. I found this was opaque in 2 coats but a 3rd coat made it even brighter.

This polish really freaked my camera out and for good reason! It’s very much a neon! When I swatched this it was mid-morning so the darkest transition color wasn’t showing up for me outside. I used my LED gel lamp to show the deep purple color it can get. My experience with solar polishes is that they transition very quickly when exposed to UV and even on slightly cloudy/overcast days you can still get a color change when outdoors. The flakes really pop when matte!

Leesha’s Lacquer – Far Out, Man!

Inspiration: The mystery and awesomeness of lava lamps
Price: $11 for 15ml Cap: NONE!

Far Out, Man! is described as a neon orange/pink (depending on lighting), with a touch of shimmer and orange/pink/red shifting flakes. Far Out Man is opaque in 2 coats but my photos show 3. I found it just a touch brighter with that extra coat. Very user-friendly formula. To my eye, this was a neon red/orange and it pulled very red with my camera.

This is BRIGHT! Indoors and outdoors this polish is eye-searingly bright! The flakes lay down smoothly and aren’t too difficult to remove. I got a big flake on my middle nail, which I really love when it happens, so I took extra macros to show it off. This is another one that looks great matte!

Moonflower Polish – Lightning Crashes

Inspiration: Lightning storms over Orlando Florida.
Price: $12.50 15ml Cap: 75 US / 5 UK

Lightning Crashes is described as a dark purple base with purple-to-blue iridescent micro flakes and scattered holo. This can be used both as a stamping polish and a regular polish. As a regular polish this has an easy 1 coat application and stamping with it is just as easy. With stamping, I found that you get the most holo bang over darker bases and when you scrape your image lightly.

I wore this by itself for a few days after swatching and it’s really beautiful in all lighting. I didn’t have any staining. For the pink nails, I used Moonflower Polish Sprinkle which I reviewed here. I really loved how this looked over neon pink. Since this is a holo I didn’t add a matte top coat (holo + matte top coat = goodbye rainbows). I used the Just For Claws 1-01 stamping plate by Uberchic Beauty for my stamping photos.

Twisting Nether Lacquer – Chronitons

Inspiration: Futurama
Price: $12.50 15ml Cap: 120 US / 10 UK⁣

Chronitons is described as a violet jelly filled with neon pink matte glitters and neon pink micro flakes. I love the glitter and shimmer components of this one! The formula was sheer but good and easy to work with. Due to the color of my acrylic, it looks very opaque so I included a photo of my other hand that doesn’t have acrylic to show the opacity better. I found I got the most glitter pay off by keeping the bottle upside down between coats. My photos show it in 4 coats alone, 1 over black, 1 over a blue creme as well as in 3 coats on my natural thumbnail. This is a jelly polish so some VNL (visible nail line) will be apparent. After swatching it on my dominant hand’s thumbnail I think most people will be able to reach a nice opacity with 3 coats. I love pink and purple together so this polish made me very happy. NOTE: I was informed by the maker that she will be making this a bit more opaque before sending it to PPU Headquarters!

Again these polishes will be available on PolishPickup.com starting on August 7th and PolishPickup.co.uk on August 6th on a pre-order basis. Polishes with a cap can sell out rather quickly so I highly recommend getting to the website early if something capped catches your eye! Wishlisting will be available this weekend and preloading items in your cart should be available a day or two before the shops open. I’d love to hear what people are planning on getting so leave a comment below!
