Paint It Pretty Polish Halloween Thermal Trio – Swatch & Review

Woohoo, I have another fantastic Halloween collection to share! Today I have swatches of a Halloween thermal trio by Paint It Pretty Polish. I absolutely LOVE thermal polishes and I am so happy Sherri (owner/maker of Paint It Pretty) sent these my way. These thermals are all packed with flakies and have fantastic formulas. This trio is currently available on the Paint It Pretty Polish Etsy page. I will have links to the maker’s website and their socials at the end of this post.

If you haven’t heard of this brand before, Paint It Pretty Polish is an indie nail polish brand. Their polishes are handmade in Canada, 5 free, vegan and cruelty free. I have reviewed their polishes before. Btw, I used their flakie topper collection for the banner on this blog!

Disclaimer: I was sent these products as PR in exchange for photographs and an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight bulbs, outdoors with natural light plus both matte and glossy top coats.

Scare

Description: a red to black thermal polish with yellow/orange/green iridescent shifting flakes
Price: $11 CAD for 15ml

Scare transitioned right away as I was applying it. It applies so smoothly and the flakies don’t give leave texture. I just love the way the flakies pair with this base color! I did find that the color of this was more of a red-ish orange to a dark brown than a red to black. I had a few light spots towards the tips of my nails in 2 coats so my photos show it in 3 coats. I would imagine on shorter nails this would be opaque in 2 coats. No issues on removal.

Scream

Description: a yellow to orange to red tri thermal with orange/yellow iridescent shifting flakes.
Price: $11 CAD for 15ml

Scream took a few extra seconds to start transitioning on me but I am guessing that my hands were just colder when I started swatching this one. By the time I finished my final coat I was seeing all 3 color states on my nails. This also applied very smoothly and I didn’t have any texture from the flakies. I had just a touch of VNL with this in the warm state on some angles but I had to look for it. My photos show Scream in 3 coats. No issues on removal.

While I know candy corn doesn’t usually have red in it, this is a candy corn nail polish to me. As an enthusiastic candy corn lover, I am totally for candy corn nails!

Startle

Description: a blue (warm) to purple (cold) thermal with a red/gold/green shimmer with purple to gold and bronze to gold shifting flakes.
Price: $11 CAD for 15ml

Startle applied so smoothly the application felt I was applying a creme polish! The flakes and shimmer give a fiery like appearance. This started transitioning right away on my nails. The flakies didn’t leave any texture. My photos show Startle in 3 coats. I didn’t have any issues with removal.

Note: I did notice some small pieces of pigment in this polish. A few are visible on my finished photos. I let Sherri know and she has already corrected this so the bottles that are sold won’t have this issue!

This was such a fun trio! The formulas were easy to work with. I really liked all of these but if I had to pick a favorite, I would go with Startle for the color but Scream for the color range. I didn’t have any issues getting the colors to change naturally. On nails without much of a free edge, you probably won’t see multiple colors at the same time. Caitlin from Streets Ahead Style did a great job showing these on shorter nails on both her blog post and YouTube channel!

I will note that thermal polishes do have a shelf life (generally at least 6-12 months) on how long they will change colors for. Sherri gives her thermals a 9-18 month shelf life. To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
