Howdy friends! It is no secret that I am a sucker for an ugly aka prugly nail polish. When Holo Taco announced they were releasing Born Ugly for April Fool’s Day this year I was so excited! I got tricked by their past April Fool’s Day faux launches so I am really glad they released the joke polish this year.

According to Holo Taco, this shade is the pantone color that was voted the ugliest color. I strongly disagree but no one asked my opinion on the matter.

Sadly Born Ugly is a limited edition polish and likely won’t be restocked once it sells out. On the positive side, I own a likely ridiculous amount of “ugly” dark green polishes so I have some swatch stick comparisons to share so that you all can see some other options.

I’ll have a live swatch video featuring this polish up in a few days but for now just enjoy the swatches!

Note: I purchased Born Ugly however I did also receive a bottle of it in PR from Holo Taco after I had always done my swatches on my purchased bottle. I am still going to label this one as purchased since the post was typed up prior to me receiving the bottle in PR.

Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Description: drab brown-green shade with a crème formula

Born Ugly had a really great but VERY thick formula. If you have used a Holo Taco creme before, you know they tend to be on the thicker side. This was just slightly thicker than normal but not so thick that I needed to add nail polish thinner to my bottle. The thickness did make this just shy of being a one-coater.

The official color description is spot on, this a deep green with just a little bit of brown in it. Think a very dark olive green. While I personally love colors like this, it is for sure in the prugly family.

I couldn’t help myself, I had to add the most expensive nail polish that I have ever purchased with what is supposed to be the ugliest! Cirque Colors AU is a real gold leaf topper. I am pretty sure this is the 5th time this year that I have worn this one.

I wanted to compare Born Ugly to all of my dark ugly greens. Which I apparently own a lot of lmao.

The most similar color wise to Born Ugly is going to be Essie’s Meet Me At Midnight (Shop links: Beyond Polish, Walmart & Amazon). They’re not 100% dupes but they are like 90% dupes. I would say Zoya Althea (Shop: Beyond Polish & Zoya) , China Glaze Westside Warrior (discontinued but try ebay or beauty supply shops) and Olive Ave Polish Olive (use code NicoleLovesNails to save 10%) are similar enough that if you own those you probably don’t need Born Ugly.

Although to be honest with myself and with you, probably half of these are similar enough to Born Ugly that if you have those you don’t need this too. I asked my husband and according to him, there are only 3 different colors shown on those swatch sticks. Sooo yeah.
