Hey y’all! I have a second blog post today for another Sweet & Sour Lacquer release. This is their monthly duo for August. Darlene switched it up on and this month we have a jelly and a flakie polish.
The August duo is available right now on the Sweet & Sour Lacquer website. The Precious Metals collection also launched with this duo. I now have an affiliate code with this brand
Sweet & Sour Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade, 5 free, and cruelty free.

Amethyst Aesthetic
Description: a purple jelly base with copper shimmer
Price: $12 for 15ml
Amethyst Aesthetic Had a great jelly formula. It starts off fairly sheer so you will want to build it up for opacity. The shimmer is very strong in this base. It has a very subtle color shiftiness to it. I was mainly seeing the reddish copper but under my floor lamp, I was seeing hints of gold to a green shift as extreme angles.
This is a jelly so it will need to be built up for opacity. It applies very evenly so if you don’t mind obvious VNL, you could get away with 2 coats. I used 3 coats for my photos. This seems to be pretty pigmented so I would recommend wearing a base coat to prevent staining. I didn’t have any staining.
Iridescent Crystals
Description: a mix of purple and blue iridescent flakies
Price: $12
Iridescent Crystals Also had a great formula. It didn’t feel thick, all of the flakies spread out evenly and easily. This does have a very slight flakie smell to it but it’s not strong and the odor doesn’t linger.
The flakies in this are in a clear base but I found they gave Amethyst Aesthetic a slightly more purple tone when paired as a topper. The flakies in this polish do not dry textured at all. I used 1 normal layer of top coat for a glossy finish.
To swatch this polish, I used it in 1 coat over Amethyst Aesthetic. For the first photo in this gallery, I made a jelly sandwich out of the polishes. I applied 2 coats of Amethyst Aesthetic, 1 coat of Iridescent Crystals, and then 1 more coat of Amethyst Aesthetic before top coating. Doing a jelly sandwich is a super easy nail art technique that I really don’t do enough of.
