My NEW Custom Polish With Sweet & Sour Lacquer! So Prugly, It’s Fugly
Gifted, affiliate links used, post disclosure page
If you need to know what thing about me, I LOVE a prugly nail polish. I had an idea for a prugly green base with a TON of glitter. Since my go-to brand for some chunky glitter is Sweet & Sour Lacquer, I contacted Darlene to see if she could make my (very vague) idea come to life. Darlene also loves a prugly nail polish as we saw in last year’s Oh Shit collection.
If you’ve been around here before, this isn’t the first custom that I have done with this brand. We also collaborated 2 years ago to release Summerween and The Nicole. Clearly, whenever Darlene and I get together, chunky glitter will be involved!
For this polish, I decided to name it So Prugly, It’s Fugly. This polish is supposed to be ugly and I freaking love it!!
So Prugly, It’s Fugly will be available starting tomorrow August 1st at 11am on the Sweet & Sour Lacquer website. This isn’t technically a full release but it will get restocked as long as there’s interest. If you decide to pick it up, feel free to use my affiliate code SweetNicole10 to save 10% off the entire website. Thank you so much Darlene for working with me on this nail polish!!!
P.S. Tomorrow’s launch will also include a restock on the website and new collections! I’ll have some more blog posts coming up sharing some of them!
Sweet & Sour Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free and cruelty free.
Originally we were going to do a crelly base but with all of the glitter I wanted, we ended up going with a jelly base. This polish is a glitter bomb and kind of reminiscent of old school indie nail polishes. There’s a rainbow of glitters in the base but the most dominant color is gold and holographic. We added big circle glitters, stars, squares, hexes in a variety of sizes. And because I couldn’t help myself, we also added in some gold reflective glitter.
Because of the metric ton (not literally but it’s a lot) of glitter in this polish, you need to give it a good shake before using it. If you don’t have a nail polish shaker (I recommend these: budget friendly my favorite & my other favorite) I would recommend holding the bottle upside down for a few minutes before using it. The biggest glitters will sink so if you want to make sure to get the biggest glitters out, holding the bottle upside down between coats wouldn’t hurt either. For my swatches, I just ran this through my shaker once and applied like normal for the other three coats.
My swatches show this polish in 3 coats with 2 coats of top coat. In my opinion, this is best built up in 3 coats. In two coats the green base looks a little bit uneven but if you’re the type who likes to do glitter placement, you could artfully apply the glitters to make the base look more even. I am too lazy for glitter placement so I just applied like this like normal.
You do get a slight amount of VNL through the jelly base, however, the glitters will distract from your nail line as there’s a lot of them as well as a lot of sparkle!
Obviously, because this polish has a butt load of glitter, it’s going to be a difficult one to remove. For the easiest removal experience, use the soak off method or a peel off base coat.
I didn’t personally experience staining with this polish. However, I often find greens like this do stain so make sure to wear base coat!
I would love to know what you think of this one! If you decide to pick this one up, please be sure to tag me in any posts you make wearing it!
