Salon Perfect x Wonka Nail Polish Collection Swatches And Review

Hey friends! This nail polish collection went THROUGH IT getting to me. I ordered these through the Walmart website and Sassy decided that she needed to intercept the package for me. She chewed up a few of the bottles and scattered the rest all over our yard. So if you notice some teeth marks in these photos that would be why.

So today’s blog post is for the newest collection from Salon Perfect. Much like China Glaze, they are also giving us a Willy Wonka inspired collection in collaboration with the new movie coming out. There are a total of 8 polishes plus a plump “gel” top coat. I believe there are also some nail art stickers and press on nails that go along with this release.

Anything Is Possible

Description: a pearlized berry with tiny added shimmers

Anything Is Possible is the fun (sarcasm) berry shade that we so often this time of year. This polish is skirting the lines between being a pearl and a metallic. You don’t get the brush strokes that typically come with those finishes so I didn’t hate this one as much as I thought I would.

Formula and application were both pretty great. It was a one coater on me and the formulation was a little bit on the thicker side. Not thick as in hard to work with just thick like opaque thick.

And yes, that is a ding on my nail for this swatch. I completely forgot to edit it out so y’all get the “I was looking for my top coat and whacked my nail on something random” ding that usually gets edited out!

Choc-full of Miracles

Description: a hot pink creme

Choc-full of Miracles in comparison to the rest of this collection, Choc-full of Miracles is the least interesting polish. It’s a pretty hot pink creme shade so clearly I like it because duh hot pink.

The formula was pretty good, a little bit thinner than I prefer but still easy to apply with the skinny brush the brand has. The polish tends to run down the stem of the brush but I didn’t find that it made application difficult. Self leveling was fantastic but the polish does dry down a little flat so you will want glossy top coat.

If this was a creme release, I would probably like this polish a lot more but surrounded by fun finishes this was a little ho hum. I think this polish leans slightly towards being a crelly.

This polish has a very warm undertone and leans very much in the pinky red family. I found it photographs a lot more red leaning than it appears in person. I color corrected my photos a little bit just to bring it back to being a pink polish and not a red.

My photos show Choc-full of Miracles in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. This had really great coverage but it wasn’t quite a one coater as it dries down slightly sheerer than it intially applies. I had a tiny bit of VNL after two coats but not enough to get me to add a third coat.

Chocolate Cartel

Description: a chocolate brown linear holographic

Chocolate Cartel is the polish from this collection that I was most looking forward to! I loved the shade of brown that was in China Glaze’s Wonka collection, this is a linear holographic of that shade!

I found the formula of Chocolate Cartel to be on the thicker side, but still easy to apply and self level. There is a little bit of brush strokes when the polish is wet but they level themselves out as it dries down. If you work in thick coats, you can get this one opaque in one coat on nails around my length.

This isn’t the most in-your-face holographic but it is still very holographic! WARNNG this is one of those linear holographics that lose their holographic when you add your top coat but don’t worry! As the top coat dries down, the holographic comes back.

My photos show Chocolate Cartel in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. You will want top coat for this one as it dries down pretty flat. Nothing in here will dry down textured and removal will be easy. I didn’t notice any issues with staining.

Extraordinary Quest

Description: a deep teal with iridescent flakies

Extraordinary Quest in the bottle this polish looked SO COOL! Sadly on the nail the beautiful flakies you see in the bottle, have a hard time being visible due to the base being very opaque. On the positive side, it’s a one coater.

This polish was on the thicker side, I feel like it was skirting the line between needing thinner and being just thick. It’s possible my bottle was a little bit cold as these only arrived here a few hours ago and it’s fairly cold out.

My photos show Extraordinary Quest in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. This is a very pigmented polish and I have a feeling it’s a potential stainer. I had a hard time getting all of the teal off of my nails with it.

Hover-choc

Description: a green with gold shiummer

Hover-choc I do not get the reference for this name but based on the name, I am surprised that this isn’t a brown color. The formula itself was pretty good. It didn’t

I know I am easily impressed whenever gold is added to a polish but I still didn’t expect to like Hover-choc as much as I ended up liking it! I do wish the shimmer was a little bit stronger but for $6 I think it’s pretty great.

Pure Imagination

Description: a warm medium purple with red/orange shimmer

Pure Imagination is such a fun polish! I’m calling it a warm purple but it leans a little bit towards being in the reddish berry family. This is in a more jelly-like base so you will need to build it up to get opacity.

I am having a hard time deciding if the shimmer is color shifty or if there are just two different colors of shimmer in the polish. The formula was a little bit thinner than I prefer but I found application to be pretty fantastic. It doesn’t com

My photos show Pure Imagination in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I am going to call this a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference and thickness of coats. I had a little bit of VNL with two coats so if that bothers you, you might need a third coat.

Scrumdiddlyumptious

Description: a blue to purple duochrome

Scrumdiddlyumptious is the one polish from this release that I thought was a strange choice. I didn’t get a change to post a review but Salon Perfect had a really fun Halloween collection that featured a polish that looked pretty damn close to this one. Side by side comparison is below.

All of that aside, this polish had a pretty good formula. It does show some brush strokes but they mostly disappear as the polish dries down. If you look for them, you will be able to see them but as someone who dislikes brush strokes, they’re not terrible.

My photos show Scrumdiddlyumptious in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. This polish is going to be a 2-3 coater depending on your personal preference.

And here is the promised side-side to If Looks Could Kill. From what I remember of this swatch, I used 3 coats for it vs the two I did for Scrumdiddlyumptious. The two are similar enough that I wouldn’t suggest buying both. If Looks Could Kill is less expensive ($3.98 vs $5.98) than Scrumdiddlyumptious.

Velvety Delight

Description: a holiday red shimmer (maybe matte?)

Velvety Delight is that Santa Clause red that I have been kinda over lately BUT the added shimmer makes me not sigh and say ‘no you again’. This polish dries down pretty dull, so dull that I think it might be a matte finish but I can’t tell from the Walmart website promotional photos.

The formula on this was pretty good. A little bit thicker than I would have liked but it could be down to my bottle being a little cold. The shimmer is beautiful!!

My photos show Velvety Delight in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference.

Final Thoughts

This collection was so fun! I wasn’t sure what to expect other than I was really excited to see Chocolate Cartel and I was PUMPED that Salon Perfect was releasing their Plumping Gel Top Coat in a golden bottle! I will admit, the reason that really got me to jump on this collection was the golden top coat bottle.

I know, I know that is a little ridiculous but the golden bottle sold me on buying this collection but I am happy to report that the collection itself was fantastic.
