Psyche Minerals Winter Trio + Black Friday Info| Swatch & Review
Today’s blog post features a new-to-me indie brand called Psyche Minerals. Molly, the owner of this brand, reached out to me to swatch their new Winter trio. I love trying out new brands so I was very excited! This trio was inspired by Molly’s love for family time during the holiday season. The Winter Trio releases November 27th on the Pysche Minerals website. I will have links to where you can purchase these at the end of the blog post!
Psyche Minerals as a brand is not new. They have been in business for 8 years with their pigment powders, eyeshadows, and lip glosses. The polish side of the business is new as of this year. Their polishes are 5 free and while they don’t list themselves as cruelty free, they do not test on animals nor do they use suppliers who test on animals.
Disclaimer: I was sent these products as PR in exchange for photographs and an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight LED bulbs plus both matte and glossy top coats.
The Perfect Tree
Description: a black based magnetic with a shifting teal to purple shimmer.
Inspiration: Picking out the perfect Christmas tree
Cap: 50 bottles with 10 set aside to trio listing
The Perfect Tree had a great but sheer formula. In person, the color shifts I was seeing on the nail were teal to blue to purple. I found it was very color shifty. The magnetic pull seemed on the more subtle side. To get the magnetic effect I used a bar magnet and held it over the polish for 45-60 seconds on the final coat of color and again after top coating, one nail at a time. I used 3 thin coats with a thicker 4th coat for my photos. In the 8th photo, I used 1 thick coat over black. No issues on removal.
Note #1: I spoke to Molly about the opacity of this polish and she will will double checking the formula before release.
Holiday Gatherings
Description: a deep vampy cool toned berry
Price: $11 No cap
Holiday Gatherings is a jelly-like creme in the way many red cremes are. As far as berries go, I found this is more of a red-brown than a red-purple. It can look like a brown in warm/natural lighting. The formula was easy to use and I didn’t have staining (reds tend to stain me). It was just on the edge of being a 2 coater for me but I used 3 coats for my photos. I think shorter and natural nails should be good in 2 coats. No issues with removal.
Snowflake Sparkles
Description: a sheer to meduim light sky blue with blue sparkles.
Price: $11 No cap
Snowflake Sparkles appears like a sheer white in base color with a very strong blue shimmer. I loved how this one looked on the nails! The shimmer/sparkle is really strong and didn’t leave any brush strokes. The formula was good but the application was a little finicky. Kinda like how many white and pastel polishes can be. So I had to apply the coats carefully. It was still a little patchy looking in 3 coats but I liked the coverage so I left it at 3 coats. Interestingly enough, top coat seemed to even out coverage and I don’t think the light spots really show up in my swatch photos. I did have VNL with this. No issues on removal.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed this trio! I think the colors paired well together and this was a great introduction to the brand for me. I liked that Holiday Gatherings wasn’t your typical holiday red. While The Perfect Tree didn’t feel like a Christmas green to me, it’s still a gorgeous polish. All that said, Snowflake Sparkles was my personal favorite from this trio. It applied a little uneven but I think the final look is totally worth the extra care during application. I will note that I let the maker know about the issues I had with these and they seemed receptive to them.
