Hi friends! I am typing this blog post covered in flour and cursing my oven to the depths of hell. Once again my oven decided to act the fool and probably ruined my birthday cake. FUN TIMES.
That’s a hell of an intro paragraph, but I didn’t know what else to say and I am feeling testy, haha. Today’s blog post is for the Bee’s Knees Lacquer polish that will be sold in the February 2024 Polish Pickup shop! The theme for February’s shop is Wild Animals.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer – Hot Dog
Inspiration: Bryce and Hunt’s fight with the Shepherd in House of Sky and Breath
Description: a deep, smoky purple with a matte purple to red shimmer

Hot Dog had a fantastic formula. It was slightly on the thicker side but applied and self leveled really nicely. On the first coat it was a little streaky and uneven but it built up nicely for me.
The brand’s description is spot on. I didn’t think that I would care for this one much on me, it’s a little on the dark side for my tastes, but I actually did like how it looked on me a lot.
BKL does say that this is a matte shimmer but the polish itself does not dry down matte. The shimmer manages to be both subtle and very obvious all at the same time.
My photos show Hot Dog in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This is going to be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. If I was wearing this for personal wear, I would likely stop at two coats.
I didn’t personally experience any staining with this polish but I would still recommend base coat.
