Hey everyone! Today’s blog post is for the Polish Pickup Rewind for 2021. During Rewind, brands can bring back polishes that were previously sold during PPU. In this post, I have included some past photos of polishes that are coming back as well some polishes that I swatched specifically for Rewind. Some of these polishes will be available on the PPU website and others on the maker’s website.
In case you are new, Polish Pickup aka PPU is a monthly collaboration of indie polish and other handmade product makers based on a chosen theme. There’s a new theme with new products each month from dozens of makers. Items are available the first Friday – Monday of each month for pre-order.

Babygirl Lacquer – Sailor Venus
Inspiration: Sailor Venus from Sailor Moon.
Description: an orange holo crelly w/red holo & white mini hearts, navy hex glitter, gold flakes, dandelion yellow and white shards.
Price: $11 Cap: 100
Sailor Venus had a really nice formula. The base is a medium orange that leans slightly peach toned. The glitters spread out pretty well on own. I still found myself trying to manipulate them but you get a good amount of glitter with minimal effort. I didn’t notice a major difference in glitters by holding the bottle upside down between coats.
You get pretty good coverage in 2 coats. Shorter nails might be ok in 2. I used 3 coats for my photos.
This dries down pretty textured. It will look a little lumpy before you add top coat. I used 2 coats of topmost to smooth this out.
Babygirl Lacquer – Lisa
Inspiration: Weird Science
Description: A bright pink-to-pale pink thermal with magnetic UCC & UCC flakies
Price: $11
***This will be on the BGL website!***
Lisa had a really nice formula. It was slightly thinner than I was expecting but not at all watery and I didn’t have any application issues. Unfortunately, my thermal pigment died a bit in transit (thanks to that heatwave we had this week) so the cold state isn’t quite a dark as it is supposed to be.
This will show VNL in the warm state.

Cameo Colours Lacquers – Talos I
Inspiration: Prey (the game)
Description: A black jelly with scattered holo sparkle, full of indigo/purple shifting shimmer, gold metallic micro flakes, and a smattering of silver holo micro flakes.
Price: $11.50 for 15ml Cap: 200
Talos I had a great jelly like formula. It started out a little sheer but builds up really quickly. The shimmer is very strong and really pops from the dark base. The gold flakies give this a more unique look in my opinion.
This will be opaque in 2-3 coats depending on nail length and preference. I will note that the third coat does deepen the color *slightly*. I used 3 coats for my photos. Nothing in here dried textured or will be overly difficult to remove.

Heather’s Hues – Scorpius
Inspiration: a mandala featuring the Scorpio zodiac sign
Description: a blurple jelly base with iridescent pink-gold-green shimmer
Price: $12.50 for 15ml Cap: 200
Scorpius had a great jelly like formula. It is on the thinner side but I didn’t have any application issues. It starts out fairly sheer but it builds up nicely. The iridescent shimmer is VERY color shifty! This polish is one of my all-time favorite polishes to date.
I used 3 coats for my photos with a slightly thicker third coat. It reaches like 95% opacity doing it this way. I also decided to try this out over a VNL blurring base coat.
Original Blog Post – Heather’s Hues July 2020 Monthly Duo + July PPU Rewind
Just out of curiosity, I also swatched this on my dominant hand over my favorite 1 coat black polish by Heather’s Hues called Shadow. It. Looks. SO. Freaking. Cool! My photo shows Scorpius in 1 coat over black.
Heather’s Hues – Beat The Heat
Inspiration: Tesla’s “rainbow glass”
Description: a solar polish that is described as bright orange indoors and shades of pink, fuchsia, and purple in the sun. It’s kissed with iridescent purple-pink-gold-green shimmer, iridescent flakes in orange-pink-gold-green, and a hint of holo sparkle.
Price: $12.50 for 15ml Cap:
Beat The Heat had a great formula. It applied evenly and easily. This is a super bright neon shade! Depending on how strong the sunlight (or UV lighting) the sunlight, this will change to a pink/fuchsia to a purple.
This will be opaque in 2-3 coats depending on preference. In 2 coats, I had fairly obvious VNL but even coverage. I used 3 coats for my photos. The third coat does deepen the color. This does dry dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

LynB Designs – Don’t Torture Yourself, That’s My Job
Description: – A thermal that transitions from a drop blackish purple when cold to medium barbie pink when warm. It’s packed with orange to pink to gold iridescent flakes and holographic shimmer
Price: $13 Cap: None
Don’t Torture Yourself, That’s My Job had a fantastic formula. It was thinner than I was expecting but not overly thin. It applies very nicely. My hands were pretty warm the day I swatched this so it started changing on me right away.
This will be opaque in 3 coats on most people. In 2 coats it was still fairly sheer.
LynB Designs – Salty Bish 2.0
Description: A pastel cornflower blue base with blue to purple to green and pink to blue to purple shifting flakes, pink to purple to gold shifting shimmer and holo micro flakies
Price: $13 Cap: None
***On Maker’s website July 2-31***
Salty Bish 2.0 had a fantastic formula. It was a little sheer on the first coat so you will want to build it up. The flakies spread out evenly and easily on their own. This polish is very color shifty!
This builds up to like 90% opacity in 3 coats. You will most likely have some VNL on some angles. Just out of curiosity, I also swatched this on 1 coat over black. Nothing in here will dry textured or be difficult to remove.

NeVerMind Apothecary – Virgo
Inspiration: Virgo
Description: A pale pink with a fuchsia shimmer and hot pink flakes
Price: $12.50 for 15ml Cap: 250
Virgo had a really great crelly formula. The shimmer is both soft and strong at the same time. The flakies spread out pretty evenly on their own. I found they’re akin to glitter shreds so I had a few that did want to poke up off the nail.
This had pretty good coverage in 2 coats. I had a few light spots so I used 3 coats for my photos.
Depending on if you get any flakies that stick up, this will need 1-2 coats of top coat. I used 1 coat for my photos.
NeVerMind Apothecary – Slendy
Inspiration: Slenderman
Description: white polish with silver scattered holo and black flakes
Price: $12.50
**This will be on the NeVerMind Apothecary website 7/2-7/31**
Slendy had a great formula. It was thinner than I expected for having so much glitter but it applied really nicely. The black flakes are similar to glitter shreds so like the previous polish, they have the potential to dry textured.
I found the flakies spread out really nicely without needing to worry about placement. I would recommend 2 coats of top coat to smooth this out.
Also launching Friday on the NeVerMind website is the new SunCrusher Collab collection! My blog post for that release is up here

Sweet & Sour Lacquer – Crypt Keeper
Inspiration: The Crypt Keeper
Description: a deep red/burgundy crelly filled with blue shimmer and blue/purple iridescent flakies.
Price: Cap: 100
Crypt Keeper had a great formula. It skirted the line (in my opinion) between a jelly and a crelly polish. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I do not have any application issues. The base is really vampy red and the flaky is also spread up very evenly and easily on their own.
This had great coverage. This will be a 2 to 3 coater depending on personal preference. I had some visible nail line in two coats. Nothing in here dried textured or Will be overly difficult to remove. Definitely wear a base coat with this as it is very pigmented!
Sweet & Sour Lacquer – Sea Of Stars
Description: An ultramarine blue jelly filled with lime-gold and purple-blue iridescent glitters that glow from within!
Price: $11
**Will be on the Sweet & Sour Lacquer website 7/2-7/31. Use code REWIND21 for free US shipping**
Sea Of Stars had great jelly formula. The glitters spread out evenly and easily on their own. The blue base is a little on the sheer side so you will want to build it up. I think this would be good for pond manis.
I used 3 coats for my photos and it was like 90% opaque. On my thumb, I used 2 coats over a VNL blurring base coat. Nothing in here dried textured but removal will be tricky from the glitter.
Also launching this week on the Sweet & Sour Lacquer website is the July duo! My review for that is up here!

Twisting Nether Lacquer – Moonstone
Inspiration: Moonstone
Description: A sheer milky white polish with unicorn shimmer
Price: $13 for 15ml Cap: 200
Moonstone had a really great crelly formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. I noticed that the rewind version for this polish seems to have more of a shimmer effect than the original release. I was able to see the color shifts in this MUCH better with the new bottle. i was seeing a teal to blue to purple color shift in person.
I think this will be a solid 3 coater on pretty much everyone. I did still have some VNL in 3 coats but it was pretty minimal.
Original Blog Post – Polish Pickup Birthstones, Gems and Minerals – January 2021
Note: In my original review, my bottle had a wonky brush so my application was a bit difficult and uneven. I didn’t have any issues with the new bottle’s brush
Twisting Nether Lacquer- Champagne On The Brain
Description: rose gold holographic full coverage micro glitter
Price: $12.50
**Available on the TWL website 7/2-7/31 Use code FREESHIP on orders over $25**
Champagne On The Brain had a great formula. It applied really evenly and nicely despite being a glitter polish it did not feel sick at all. The glitters in this are very very tiny so they actually do not give off much if any texture. So one coat of topcoat smooth this one out completely.
This is sheer enough that you could use it as a topper if you don’t mind your base color being slightly obscured. I swatched this one in 3 coats on its own and in 1 coat over black. Depending on thickness of coats, you will likely have VNL with this polish.

A note on thermal/solar polishes…
I want to note that thermal and solar polishes do have a shelf life on how long they will change colors for. Generally, they are guaranteed to change colors for 6-12 months. My oldest thermal that still transitions is from 2018 and my first solar polish from 2019 still transitions.
To get the most out of a thermal/solar (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in either state.
