Polish Pickup ‘Animation’ October 2020!

I’m very excited about this blog post this month. Do I always say that? Maybe but I always look forward to PPU and the fact that I can share upcoming polishes with people gets me even more excited! I have some fantastic polishes to share, including a new-to-the-blog brand Color Spectrum Polish. These polishes will be available this Friday, October 2nd at 11am Eastern time during the Animation themed Polish Pickup!

In case you are new, Polish Pickup is a monthly collaboration of indie polish and other handmade product makers based on a chosen theme. There’s a new theme with new products each month from dozens of makers. Items are available the first Friday – Monday of each month for pre-order at PolishPickup.com. All items are shipped together, for one low flat rate price of $3 (U.S. orders). Canadian shipping starts at $6 USD on the main site and international shipping is also available from the co.uk site.

Disclaimer: I was sent these products as PR in exchange for photographs and an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight bulbs, outdoors with natural light using a peel off base coat plus both matte and glossy top coats.

Color Spectrum Polish – Baby’s Gotta Do What A Baby’s Gotta Do

Inspiration: Rugrats
Description: a purple pearl loaded with iridescent flakies shifting from pink/orange/green/blue/purple, along with blue/violet ucc flakies, purple & green shimmers, holo micro flakies and scattered purple holo glitters.
Price: $11 for 13ml Cap: 75 US / 5 UK

Baby’s Gotta Do What A Baby’s Gotta Do is a soft and delicate looking polish. The formula was a bit sheer but it did build up nicely and was very easy to work with. The shimmer in this is slightly brush strokey during application but they do for the most part disappear as the polish dries. The holographic sparkle is soft without overwhelming the base. I used 3 coats for my photos. I loved this one matte! If you’re a Rugrats fan, be sure to check out the Reptar Bar themed lip balm also available this month.

Note: This polish does look a touch pinker on me than it actually is due to the color of my acrylic. The most color accurate swatch is the one on my thumbnail as that nail has clear acrylic on it.

Leesha’s Lacquer – TACOS!!!!

Inspiration: GIR from Invader Zim
Description: An avocado green crelly with green and pink micro flakies
Price: $11 for 15ml Cap: 150 US / 20 UK

TACOS!!!! Has a wonderfully smooth formula. The micro flakes don’t give this any texture. I’ll be honest, I was iffy on this color when I saw it in the bottle but seeing it on the nail won me over. It’s really beautiful. My photos show it in 3 coats but it was just on the edge of being 2 coater.

I also applied the Accidents… Happen topper over TACOS. Let’s just say I loved it so much I ended up wearing them all weekend and couldn’t stop staring at my nails. They are fantastic together. Also, can we talk about how cute the label is for this?!

Leesha’s Lacquer – Accidents…Happen?!

Inspiration: Powerpuff Girls (What Alicia imagines Professor used to create them!)
Description: A crazy flakie filled topper with 10 different types of multichrome and duo chrome flakies!
Price: $12 for 15ml Cap: 100 US / 10 UK

This topper is SO fun! The flakies range in size and color so this will be great over a range in base colors. Despite being so packed with flakies, it doesn’t feel too thick at all and top coat smooths out the minimal amount of texture. This looks really cool matte too. The flakies all spread out pretty evenly without any work. I will note that on a few nails I did a bit of dabbing with the brush. My photos show it in 1 coat (index nail), 3 coats alone (middle and ring), 1 coat over black (Heather’s Hues Shadow), and 1 coat over a silver linear holographic (Color Club Harp On It). I really liked it in 3 coats on its own as well. In 3 coats there will be VNL (visible nail line).

Paint It Pretty Polish – I’m Not A Prize To Be Won

Inspiration: Jasmin from Aladdin
Description: a blue base with tons of gold/green/pink shifting iridescent flakes
Price: $12 for 15ml Cap: 90 US / 10 UK

I’m Not A Prize To Be Won is the type of polish I can’t get enough of. It is extremely glowy! It has smooth even coverage and isn’t too thick or too thin. I really enjoyed this formula. It seems very sheer on the first coat but the opacity does build with more coats. The base allows the flakies to really shine. I really liked it in 2 coats but I did 3 for my photos. I did have a hint of nail line on some angles so this might show VNL on natural nails.

Twisting Nether Lacquer – Let Me Be Your Wings

Inspiration: Thumbelina
Description: A white crelly with gold sparks, matte blue hex glitters, gold holo glitters and stars.
Price: $12.50 for 15ml Cap: 120 US / 10 UK

Let Me Be Your Wings I LOVE the Twisting Nether Lacquer crelly formula. I especially love their crellies like this with larger fun shaped glitter pieces. This one did not disappoint! It applied very easily and I found that to get the most glitter payoff, holding the bottle upside down between coats works best. The larger circle and star glitters will sink in the bottle a bit so that trick will come in handy. I used 3 coats (with glitter placement for most of the stars) for my photos. I also used 1 layer of a glitter eating top coat before my glossy top coat to smooth this out. This will also come with a baggy of matching star glitters!

Zombie Claw Polish – What Was I Laughing At Again?

Inspiration: Mr Burns from The Simpsons
Description: A turquoise base polish filled with purple-blue-green UCC flakies and orange-gold crystal chameleon flakies
Price: $13 for 13ml Cap: 150 US / 20 UK

What Was I Laughing About Again? As a teal polish lover, this polish made me very happy! No issues at all with the flakies dragging between coats. This does have a jelly formula so there might be a hint of nail line on natural nails. There are a ton of flakies in this so that should distract the eye from VNL. This came alive with top coat. One thing I love about Zombie Claw Polish is that their bottle labels are always just as unique as their finishes.
