Hi y’all, today’s blog post is for the February Polish Pickup. The theme for February is 90s TV shows and I honestly haven’t been this excited about a theme since last June’s PPU. So many of my favorite shows are featured this month and it just makes me really happy.
Anyway, the February PPU will be opened February 4th on the Polish Pickup website. As always, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post.
Live Swatch Video
Polish Pickup aka PPU is a monthly collaboration of indie polish and other handmade product makers based on a chosen theme. There’s a new theme with new products each month from dozens of makers. Items are available the first Friday – Monday of each month for pre-order.
Bee’s Knees Lacquer – Jawsome
Inspiration: The Street Sharks animated series
Description: a blue to purple pastel multichrome base with gold reflective glitter.
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
Jawsome had a fantastic formula. The base on this polish is on the more sheer side so you will want to build it up in 3 coats for the most opacity. In person, I was seeing the blue to purple color shift as described as well as a gold and a pink/magenta color shift.
I found the gold reflective glitter to my eye mainly looked silver in person. It wasn’t until I used my phone’s flash that I could really see the gold reflects. The glitters do dry down with some slight texture. I like to pair reflective glitters with a glitter smoothing top coat due to that textured finish but that is up to personal preference.
My photos show Jawsome in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I also showed it in 1 coat over Heather’s Hues Shadow (black creme) without top coat. Removal will be on the more difficult side if you choose to scrub this one off. I soaked it off with no issues.

Cameo Colours Lacquers – On Your Mark. Get Set. Go!
Inspiration: Double Dare
Description: a vibrant green base with scattered holo sparkle, blue shimmer, full of gold metallic micro flakes, blue/teal/violet UCC flakes, and silver holo micro flakes
Price: $11.50 for 15ml | Cap: None
On Your Mark. Get Set. Go! had a fantastic formula. It started off a little sheer but it applied very evenly. Despite being jam-packed with flakies and glitters, the base didn’t feel thick at all. The flakes all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any noticeable texture.
The holographic in this polish was very strong and paired with the flakes and shimmer, it was very sparkly. I LOVED the inspiration for this polish so much! As a kid, there were few things that I wanted more than to get Slimed on a Nickelodeon show.
My photos show On Your Mark. Get Set. Go! in 3 coats plus top coat. It will be a 2-3 coater depending on your own personal preference. The third coat does deepen the base color to what you see in the bottle.
Removal won’t be overly difficult and I didn’t have any issues with staining.

Color Spectrum Polish – Uh, hey, baby.
Inspiration: Beavis & Butthead
Description: A brown (cold) to red (warm) to green (hot) tri-thermal loaded with holo, pink-purple-blue-green shifting iridescent flakies and rose/melon green glitters.
Price: $12.50 for 13ml | Cap: 115
Uh, hey, baby had a really great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The thermal aspect started changing on me right away. I was seeing all of the colors as described. The shade of green is somewhere between a sour apple green and mint green. The mid-color state, is a lighter shade of a brick red and the coldest state is a darker brick red that leans slightly brown.
The flakies and glitters all spread out very evenly without giving off any noticeable texture. This is another polish that I loved the inspiration for! Between the holographic and flakies, this was super gorgeous.
My photos show Uh, hey baby in 3 coats. It had pretty good coverage in 2 coats so I think it will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. The third coat deepened the warm state color and added opacity.
Nothing in here will be difficult to remove and I didn’t have any problems with staining.

Cupcake Polish – Overcome With Emotion
Inspiration: Daria
Description: a forest green packed with red iridescent aurora shimmer and a scattering of silver holographic glitter
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
Overcome With Emotion had a fantastic jelly formula. It stared off a little sheer but it applied evenly. The holographic glitters all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any texture.
The shimmer in here was very strong. I was seeing a magenta, orange to gold color shift in person.
My photos show Overcome With Emotion in 3 coats plus top coat. I found this polish was slightly on the sheer side so it will likely be a solid 3 coater. I had a tiny amount of VNL on the clear part of my nail.
Removal won’t be overly difficult but I would recommend soaking it off for the easiest removal experience.

Fair Maiden Polish – Down By The Creek
Inspiration: Dawson’s Creek
Description: a bright blue-green base with bright gold-aqua-green shimmer and iridescent flakes.
Price: $12 for 15ml | Cap: None
Down By The Creek had a fantastic formula. It starts off on the sheer side but it builds up nicely. This polish is extremely color shifty, in person I was seeing a gold, green to cyan color shift.
The flakies in here all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any texture. I found the flakies come out the most in lower light situations and the shimmer is the star under direct lighting.
As I mentioned, this polish starts off pretty sheer so I think it will be a solid 3 coater to make it opaque. Alternatively, it can also be used as a topper. My photos show Down by The Creek in 3 coats plus top coat. I also have it swatched in 1 coat over Orly Midnight Oasis (a dark navy blue creme) on my thumb.
Nothing in here will be difficult to remove and I didn’t experience any staining.

Fancy Gloss – Courage
Inspiration: Courage the Cowardly Dog
Description: Periwinkle (cold) to dusty purple (warm) to mint (warmer) packed with pink/copper/green/gold clear flakes and reflective glitters.
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: 500
Courage had a really great formula. It was *slightly* on the thicker side of normal but not at all overly thick. I didn’t have any application issues. The thermal aspect started changing on me right away. To my eye, the cold state is a light purple leaning periwinkle and the warm state is a pale mint green.
The flakies and glitters all spread out very evenly. The reflective glitters do dry down a little textured so this will take 1-2 coats of top coat to completely smooth out. I paired it with a glitter smoothing top coat before my quick dry top coat. I found them to be very reflective and sparkly in person.
My photos show Courage in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be messy from those reflective glitters as per usual, I recommend soaking this polish off.

Glisten & Glow – MISS FINE!!!
Inspiration: the 90’s TV hit -The Nanny 1993-1999
Description: a bright magenta jelly polish filled with color shifting iridescent flakes that shift from blue/purple/pink and red/orange/green/gold and vibrant fuchsia shreds and a pop of holo microflakes
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
MISS FINE!!! had a really fantastic formula. This base is a BRIGHT magnet. It is also really jam packed with flakies and glitter shreds but it doesn’t feel overly thick. I didn’t have any issues with application. The fuchsia shreds did dry down with some texture so I paired this polish with the Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber before going in with my top coat.
This polish built up really well in 3 coats. If you don’t mind obvious VNL, you could get away with 2 coats but to get the color you see in the bottle, you will want 3 coats. Because I was curious I also swatched it in 1 coat over a blue creme (Orly Sky’s The Limit).
Removal won’t be overly difficult but the shreds will likely make things harder. I soaked this off with no issues and didn’t have any problems with staining.

Heather’s Hues – Happy Happy, Joy Joy
Inspiration: The Ren & Stimpy Show
Description: a thermal polish that’s purple when cold and blue when warm. It’s filled with a bright pink shimmer that shifts to orange-gold, as well as silver reflective glitters
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: 250
Happy Happy, Joy Joy had a fantastic formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The thermal aspect started changing on me right away. I found the warm state to be a bluish periwinkle in person.
The shimmer was also VERY strong and glowy, I was seeing the described pink to orange/gold color shift in person. The reflective pigment in here was very reflective and gave this a beautiful sparkle. It also gave the polish some texture once it dried but I used 1 coat of top coat and that seemed to smooth it out completely.
My photos show Happy Happy, Joy Joy in 3 coats plus top coat. I think it will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. Removal won’t be overly difficult and I soaked this polish off with no issues. I also didn’t experience any staining.
Heather’s Hues – Cutie-cle Balm in Downtown As Fruits
Inspiration: The episode of “Hey Arnold!” when Arnold and Gerald get stuck…downtown…as fruits.
Scent Description: a blend of ripe banana, apple, strawberries, and sweet cherries with hints of pearberry, lime, vanilla extract, and sugar crystals.
Ingredients: apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, candelilla wax, chia seed oil, 100% pure coconut oil, fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, kukui nut oil, olive oil pomace, rosehip seed oil, sweet almond oil, and vitamin E. The scented options contain essential oils and/or fragrance oils.
Price: $11 for 30ml | Cap: 75
Y’all I am so happy that Heather has brought her cuticle balm to this month’s PPU! This is another item of hers that I keep in my purse. It is a non-greasy balm that works great in replacement of cuticle oil OR paired with a cuticle oil. A little also goes a long way so this container will last you ages.
The scent this month smells amazingly fruity! It reminds me of the fruity bubblegums I used to have as a kid.
More information from the brand
Let’s face it…nobody likes leaving greasy smudges everywhere when they apply cuticle balm right? I know I don’t, but it’s totally important to moisturize your nails and cuticles so I just persevered…that is until I developed my own moisturizing, lush, fast-absorbing “cutie-cle” oil, and now I’ve perfected a Cutie-cle Balm formula that will leave you and your nails happy!!
I’ve used nothing but the best ingredients and like all HH products, Cutie-cle Balm is vegan and cruelty-free. I’ve experienced amazing results from using Cutie-cle Oil and Balm and know you will too!
Cutie-cle Balms should be stored in a cool, dark place and used within 8-12 months of purchase as the natural oils used have a shelf life.

Jen & Berries – His Friends Call Him Doc
Inspiration: Holograms from Star Trek
Description: a blue linear holographic base with a jade/blue/purple multichrome shimmer, holographic flakes and microflakies
Price: $13 for 12.5ml | Cap: 125
His Friends Call Him Doc had a gorgeous formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The multichrome base is extremely color shifty. In person I was seeing cyan, blue, purple to magenta color shift with gold at extreme angles. The holographic in this polish was also very strong.
I think this polish will be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length. Short nails will likely be good in 2 coats. I had a little bit of VNL due to my nails being clear so my photos show His Friends Call Him Doc in 3 coats.
Nothing in here will dry textured or be difficult to remove. It does dry down slightly flat so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

KBShimmer – The Chosen One
Inspiration: Buffy The Vampire Slayer the tv show
Description: A deep base boasts a color shift from a bold blue to a nearly blackened purple hue. Silver reflective glitters twinkle and catch the light, for a sparkling shade any slayer would be proud to wear.
Price: $11 for 15ml | Cap: None
The Chosen One had a really great formula. It was slightly on it was on the thicker side of normal but it was very easy to work with and applied very nicely. In person, I was seeing a deep blue that was seemed slightly blackened with a purple color shift.
The reflective glitters will give this polish quite a bit of texture. If you are into textured polishes, this will be a good one to wear without top coat for that sand paper-y finish. If you want to this polish to be perfectly smooth, you will want to pair this with 2 coats of top coat. I used a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my KBShimmer Clearly On Top top coat.
This polish was inspired by the season 1 DVD cover for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It fits that color scheme PERFECTLY.
My photos show The Chosen One in 2 coats. I think this will be a 1-2 coater depending on application and nail length. Removal will be very messy and on the difficult side if you try to scrub it off.
KBShimmer Cucumber Melon Hand & Body Scrub
Inspiration: the cucumber melon scent that was everywhere in bath & body stores in the 90s
Description: A soft melon orange is swirled with a pale green sugar scrub with a cucumber melon scent
Price: $10 for 9.5 ounces | Cap: None
This month’s fragrance really takes me back. I had a friend who was obsessed with this fragrance and wore a body spray that smelled exactly like this! My nose was picking up the melon scent the most.
Y’all know I have raved about the KBShimmer sugar scrub month after month. This is my all-time favorite sugar scrub and one that I purchased nearly every month from PPU loooong before ever starting my blog! I use it for all over body, pedicures and even my manicures.

LynB Designs – A Simple Girl, With Simple Taste
Inspiration: Fran Fine’s fashions
Description: a buildable black base with red to purple to blue shifting magnetic pull, magic holo flakies, and hidden red to orange to yellow shifting shimmer
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
A Simple Girl, With Simple Taste also had a fantastic formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. In person, I honestly couldn’t tell that this had a black base. I was mainly seeing that very strong red/orange shimmer effect.
The magnetic effect in this polish was very strong. I magnetized it with a ring magnet with no issues. In person, I was seeing a purple, pink to orange/gold color shift. The holo flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off any texture and they were very holographic.
My photos show Simple Girl, With Simple Taste in 3 coats. It was opaque on me in 2 coats and I magnetized the third coat. This polish does dry down fairly dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. Removal won’t be overly difficult.

Moo Moo Signatures – Back To The Stone Age
Inspiration: a childhood cartoon
Description: Pink to green duochrome base with irregular gold flakes, pink to gold to orange iridescent flakes, blue to purple ucc flakes and holo flakes
Price: $13.50 for 12ml | Cap: 200
Back To The Stone Age had a great formula. It starts off a little sheer but builds up very nicely. The base was just slightly on the thicker side but the level of thickness I expect from a flakie dense polish. The duochrome shimmer was very strong and I was seeing the colors as described.
The flakies all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any texture. I used 3 coats for my photos. I think Back To The Stone Age will be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length and personal preference.
Nothing in here will be overly difficult to remove but it will be on the messy side.

My Indie Polish – Pink Power Ranger
Inspiration: Pink power ranger
Description: A medium grey crelly with multiple pink glitters and fuchsia flakes
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
Pink Power Ranger had a wonderful formula. It started off really sheer but I was pleasantly surprised that it built up very quickly. The glitters and flakes spread out very evenly and easily. I found the fuchsia flakes behaved like a glitter shred so they did dry down with some texture.
The glitter mix in here is really pretty. There are quite a few different shapes and colors pink glitters in here. On top of the components that are in the description, I also saw *really* small neon yellow and metallic blue glitters.
This polish will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. I found it was a little sheer but passable in 2 coats.

NeVerMind Apothecary – Explaining It All
Inspiration: Clarissa Explains It All
Description: a deep royal blue with a color shift of red, orange, yellow,/ and green and reflective glitter
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: 150 (may change)
Explaining It All had a fantastic formula. The shimmer effect was very color shifty and I was seeing all of the described colors in person. The reflective glitter was very sparkly and dried down with minimal texture.
The royal blue base was very pigmented, I would reccomend doubling up on base coat to prevent staining to natural nails. I didn’t personally experience any staining but this did very slightly stain my cuticle area.
I used 3 coats for my photos. I used 1 coat of top coat to smooth this polish out. I have found the reflective glitters tends to be very top coat hungry so you might need a second coat of top coat with this polish.
NeVerMind Apothecary – Nail Vinyls
Inspiration: The 90s
Description: 3 sheets of nail vinyls with 90’s themed patterns. 54 stencils total
Product Size: 7.5 x 5.5 inches
Price: $10 for 54 stencils on 3 sheets| Cap: 100
As a former 90s kid, I LOVED these stencils! I found all of the designs to really fit the theme perfectly. They were very easy to use. I honestly messed up a couple of nails but that was totally on user error.
I previously reviewed this brand’s nail vinyls when my nails were shorter and I will say using nail vinyls is significantly easier on short nails haha. These designs weren’t difficult and I think each one took under 40 minutes each to do. The first would have taken less time if I hadn’t been hate/binge watching Emily in Paris but oh well.
For the first mani I used the following polishes
Base: NeVerMind Apothecary – Explaining It All (see above for my review)
Stamping polishes: Maniology Lost Gold & Corpse Flower (use code NLN10 to save 10%)
Second mani
Base: Holo Taco Shady Navy (Winter Shimmers collection, review coming later this week)
Polishes used: Holo Taco Cyantific, What Do You Pink? and Laven-Duh.

Description: Night Owl is inspired by Friends and Phoebe’s Smelly Cat song.
Smelly Cat is a taupe grey with pink/gold/green shimmer, pink/gold/green crystal chameleon flakes and aqua crystal flakes.
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
Smelly Cat had a fantastic formula. The flakies all spread out evenly and easily without giving off any texture. In person, I was seeing the described colors in both the shimmer and flakes. This polish is jam packed with flakies but didn’t feel overly thick at all.
I think Smelly Cat will be. 2-3 coater depending on your nail length and personal preference. I used 3 coats for my photos but for personal wear, I would likely wear it in 2 coats. I had a *tiny* amount of VNL in 2 coats.
Nothing in here dried textured so I used 1 coat of top coat for my photos. I didn’t notice the flakies being top coat hungry while I had it on. I personally LOVED this polish matte. Removal won’t be overly difficult, I soaked it off with no issues.

Red Eyed Lacquer – You’re My 1 in 5 Billion
Inspiration: XFiles!
Description: a pink crelly with pink shifting shimmer, silver and black metallic flakes!
Price: $12.50 for 12ml | Cap: 200
You’re My 1 in 5 Billion had a wonderful formula. The base color is that shade of pink that has some hints of purple/orchid. The flakes all spread out very evenly without giving off any texture.
My photos show You’re My 1 in 5 Billion in 3 coats. I found it dried just slightly more sheer than it applied but it will be a 2-3 coater depending on your own personal preference.
Removal won’t be overly difficult, I soaked it off with no issues.
Red Eyed Lacquer – Da Balm-er in Am I Spooky?
Inspiration: XFiles!
Description: A blend of butters and oils to keep you soft and moisturized! Use a sparingly amount onto hands, arms, elbows, legs, everywhere that needs a boost of moisture! (Please avoid the face area).
Scent Description: A blend of pecan praline and pretzels
Ingredients: Mango Butter, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Arrowroot Powder, and Skin Safe Fragrance
Price: $7 for 1 ounce | Cap: 200
Da Balm-er in Am I Spooky? this is another product that I feel like each month I just rave about. Winter is in full effect here in Connecticut so I have been keeping a jar of Da Balmer in my purse. I really like pairing this with the Heather’s Hues WiTS lotion before going out. I find the two together keep my hands from drying out when outdoors.
This month’s scent is very light. I’m honestly undecided on what my nose is picking up. It is vaguely nutty.

Restored By Polish – Chronic Glitter-itis
Inspiration: ER
Description: a turquoise jelly base with turquoise & red microflakies
Price: $12 for 12ml | Cap: 100
Chronic Glitter-itis had a fantastic formula. The jelly base starts off a little sheer but it builds up really nicely. The flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off noticeable texture.
My photos show Chronic Glitter-itis in 3 coats with 1 coat of top coat. I think it will be a 2-3 coater depending on nail length and personal preference. I did find that the third coat deepened the base color to what I was seeing in the bottle.
Removal won’t be overly difficult but I think it will be on the messy side, especially if you scrub it off to remove.

Inspiration: The Sopranos
Description: A cool grey crelly with red/orange shifting shimmer and black/red multi chrome flakes.
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: 300
Bada Bling had a really great crelly formula. It applied buttery smooth and I didn’t have any application issues. The multichrome flakes all spread out evenly and easily without giving off any texture.
The shimmer in here was very strong and I was seeing a red, orange to gold color shift in person.
This will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length. I used 3 coats for my photos but shorter nails will probably be good in 2 coats. You will want top coat for a glossy finish and to bring out the shimmer effect.

Zombie Claw Polish – Friendship is Real
Inspiration: Boy Meets World
Description: a blue base with mustard and gold metallic flakies, lime-green-gold-pink flakies and aurora shimmer
Price: $13for 13ml | Cap: ??
Friendship is Real had a really great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick at all despite being very densely packed with flakies. All of the flakes spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any texture.
This polish will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. I used 3 coats for my photos but it was passable in 2 coats. The flakies didn’t seem to dry with any texture but I did pair this polish with a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my regular top coat. I don’t think it was 100% necessary though.
Removal for this polish won’t be overly difficult but it will be messy if you scrub it off. I didn’t have any issues with staining.

A note on thermal/solar polishes…
I want to note that thermal and solar polishes do have a shelf life on how long they will change colors. Generally, they are guaranteed to change colors for at least 6. My oldest thermal that still transitions is from 2018.
To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
