Orly ‘Twas The Night Holiday 2023 Color Pass Nail Polish Collection Swatches And Review
Press Samples/Purchased, affiliate links used
Hi friends! Today is November 1st and when I woke up this morning it was snowing. Mother Nature really just said “Peace out Falloween and ho ho ho” *deep sigh*. Sometimes I feel rather Grinch-like for how much I want to hold on to Halloween despite everyone else moving on to the winter holidays in November.
Anyway, speaking of the holiday season today’s blog post is for the newest collection from Orly. For Holiday 2023 we have the ‘Twas The Night collection. I received this box in my Orly Color Pass subscription but I did also receive a copy in PR from Orly.
This collection went on sale today so it is available right now on the Orly website and Amazon. It should be popping up at other retailers like Ulta, Target, Walmart and Sally Beauty soon. If you would like to pick this collection up at a discount, do check out Beyond Polish! I have an affiliate code NicoleLovesNails with them to save you an extra 10%.

Cozy Night
Description: a medium teal creme
Cozy Night I absolutely LOVE this shade of teal! It’s slightly more blue than green but 100% teal. The formula was very much on the thinner side, if you work in thick coats it will likely run and pool on the sides of your nail. Do NOT work in thick coats!
I love this shade of a teal but I didn’t love the formula on this polish. Which is a bummer since I thought this was going to be my top pick from the release.
Much like some of the polishes in this release, it was sheer on the first coat and needs to be built up. The coverage was a little uneven for me in two coats so I added a third coat for my photos.
My photos show Cozy Night in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I didn’t personally experience any staining with this polish but I do think it is a potential stainer.
Regal Pine
Description: a dark pine green creme
Regal Pine on the first coat, this polish was very sheer, like surprisingly sheer so it does need to be built up. Much like the previous polish, it is on the thinner side so do not work in thick coats.
The coverage is so so, I found in two coats I could see a little bit of unevenness so I did opt to add a third coat. Which is kind of a bummer.
I like this shade of green a lot more than I thought I would. It’s not as dark as the green from the recent Breathable release, it’s right in the middle.
My photos show Regal Pine in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I will call this one a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. This is a pretty pigmented polish and I feel like it is a potential stainer.
Snow Angel
Description: a pale icy blue creme
Snow Angel as someone who doesn’t love pale blues, I went into swatching this polish with very low expectations. It was slightly thicker than other polishes in this release however since most of the polishes in this collection were very thin, this probably had a more normal consistency than thick.
For such a pale color, it applied pretty nicely. I do think to get full even coverage, it is likely going to be a three coater but that isn’t atypical for colors like this. Maybe with very careful application or if you’re less picky than me, you can get it opaque in two coats.
I don’t really see “holiday” in this polish but I will buy it being a winter color because it does seem icy.
My photos show Snow Angel in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Spark
Description: a metallic copper flakie topper in a clear base
Spark from the promo email Orly had sent out, this was the polish that I was most excited about. I know, shocker Nicole is excited about some glitter. Since this is in a clear base, you can pretty much use it over any base color or no base color at all.
The flakies behave more like glitter shreds, so they do give off some texture. There are some larger flakes in here that give off more texture and some don’t lay down completely flat. One to two coats of top coat will be needed to smooth things out.
The base on this is a little bit on the thinner side but not watery. I found the best way to apply it was short brush strokes and kind of dabbing the flakes where you want them. Depending on how many flakies you get out on your brush, you’ll need 1-2 dips/coats to get the coverage you see in my photos.
My photos show Spark in 2 coats on its own, 1 coat over Velvet Ribbon and 1 coat over Cozy Night. Removal will be on the more difficult side so I would recommend soaking this polish off or using a peel off base coat.
Sugarplum Soirèe
Description: a metallic berry
Sugarplum Soirèe had one of the better formulas in this release. It wasn’t exactly a one coater but coverage was very even that you could get away with one coat if you wanted and didn’t mind obvious VNL.
The finish is slightly metallic/pearly so there are some slight brush strokes through the polish. while I still will say that I don’t like colors like this, I didn’t hate how this looked on me.
My photos show Sugarplum Soirèe in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I did notice in bright direct sunlight that I had some VNL but I didn’t notice that indoors.
Velvet Ribbon
Description: a Santa red creme
Velvet Ribbon if you love yourself a seasonally appropriate red, this is the red creme for you. If you’re like me are channeling Meryl Streep in Devil’s Wear Prada you’re thinking ‘How groundbreaking’. I know, my Grinch is showing.
The formula was pretty good and downright amazing in comparison to some of the other polishes in this release. This leans slightly towards being a jelly/crelly as it has the squishy look to it.
My photos show Velvet Ribbon in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I didn’t personally experience any staining but I would reccomend base coat as it seems like a potential stainer.
Color Pass Bonus Items
For the holiday Color Pass box Orly sent out some cute little holiday appropriate stickers and an early release of the polish Eternal Quest which will be released some time later in the season. I love it when Orly gives items like this as Color Pass bonuses!
Final Thoughts
Orly always does really great color stories and this collection is not the exception. While I don’t think the colors themselves really draw me in personally, I can see they are pretty.
Sadly I didn’t really love the formulas on several of the polishes. The thin, watery feel isn’t what I expected from Orly and honestly made me dislike the release as a whole.
If I were to pick a polish from this release, Spark would be my top pick.

Gorgeous swatches as always, Nicole 😊 Just curious…do you have Mooncat’s Fool’s Gold topper by any chance? I’m wondering how it compares to Spark. The pics on the site make it look like the flakes all lie flat, but I don’t always trust their swatches, so…

I do have that topper from Mooncat. Fools Gold dries down with a matte finsih and the flakies are thinner/smaller so they don’t dry textured the flakie topper in this release. FG is also a true gold and this is more of a copper.
