Hey friends! Today I have the newest collection from Night Owl Lacquer to share. All of the polishes in this release are inspired by gemstones and fall gem tones. Since I am totally over summer at this point, I am totally here for the fall collections!
Since all 6 polishes in this collection are the exact same just with different base colors, I am switching up this post up so as not to be repetitive and basically write the same thing 6 times. I will talk about formulas and all of my thoughts at the end of the post in my Final Thoughts area. In the final photo in each photo set, I tweaked my lighting to better show the holographic effect.
One last thing, if you picked up the Night Owl Lacquer polish called Chocolate Dance from the November 2021 Hella Handmade Creations, all of the polishes in this release have similar formulas to that polish.
The Be A Gem collection is available right now on the Night Owl Lacquer website. As always, I will have links and sale info at the end of the post. Instead of my usual live swatch video, I will be doing a live stream for this release today at 3PM Eastern time. Replay/VOD will be available afterwards in case you miss it!
**Edit I realized after posting this blog post that I accidentally exported all of my photos in a lower quality format than I usually do. Really sorry about that! Hoping to get the better quality photos uploaded in the next day or two**

Night Owl Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade, 5 free and cruelty free.
Ruby
Description: a ruby red jelly filled with holographic flakes
My photos show Ruby in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Citrine
Description: a warm yellow jelly filled with holographic flakes.
My photos show Citrine in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I LOVE the base color on this polish. It is almost a mustard-y yellow.
Emerald
Description: an emerald green jelly filled with holographic flakes.
My photos show Emerald in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I think this polish will work really well for both Fall and Winter nail art btw.
Indicolite
Description: a deep teal jelly filled with holographic flakes.
My photos show Indicolite in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I will say, I didn’t really see much of a difference with this polish between 2 and 3 coats. So this is likely just going to be a 2 coater.
Sapphire
Description: a sapphire blue jelly filled with holographic flakes.
Sapphire blues are one of my favorite shades of blue so I loved this one! I swatched it in 3 coats plus top coat.
Amethyst
Description: a deep purple jelly filled with holographic flakes.
Initially, I thought Amethyst was going to be my favorite because purple + holo = everything. While I do think this is stunning, it wasn’t my absolute favorite. My photos show Amethyst in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.

Final Thoughts
This collection was really really fun to swatch! I love holographic flakies and these were all super holographic. I am honestly really sad that it was raining the day I swatched these because I feel like these would have all been STUNNING in the full on sunshine. I saw a glimpse of Citrine in the sun when I went to get the mail and it was very sparkly!
So all of the polishes in this release have the exact same formula. Everything applied really nicely and none of the polishes felt thick to me. With the exception of Indicolite, I think these are all likely to be 3 coaters if you want 100% coverage. Indicolite was a tiny bit more opaque than the other polishes so that will probably be a solid 2 coater.
If you have shorter nails or don’t mind VNL, these are passable in 2 coats. Just know, that the third coat does deepen the base color to what you see in the bottle. All of my swatches are in 3 coats plus the Night Owl Lacquer glossy top coat. Lindsay from NOL sent me some of her top coat to try and I have been loving it for swatching!
None of the holo flakies in these polishes will dry down textured or be overly difficult to remove. It will be messy if you scrub these off but it won’t be tricky like removing a glitter polish. I didn’t experience any staining upon removal with any of the polishes, I used a peel off base coat for my swatches.
As someone who is 10000% ready for fall, I loved this collection. Jewel tones + holo is a favorite fall combo for me. I think my favorite polishes from this release are going to be Indicolite, Amethyst, and Citrine.
Sale Information
The Be A Gem collection is available right now on the Night Owl Lacquer website. Each polish is available for $11.40 for 15ml bottles. You can also pick up the full collection for $62.
As far as I know, these aren’t limited edition so in theory, they should be around for a while.
