Hi friends! For today’s post I have the new Death Note collab from Mooncat! This is a limited edition release featuring 9 nail polishes themed after the anime Death Note. Don’t boo me but I don’t actually remember this anime well. I know I watched it many years ago and saw the movie but… that’s it. This post doesn’t include any spoilers.

This release is available right now on the Mooncat website. I believe the box won’t be restocked once sold out but individual lacquers will! Check out my live swatch video if you would like to see these in sunshine!

Live Swatch Video

Mooncat is a US based boutique brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty free and vegan.

God Of The New World

Description: a charcoal black to burgundy thermal lacquer with a subtle transition. It transitions from a shade of burgundy red when cold to charcoal black when warm

The brand describes this as having a subtle transition, in low lighting both colors are dark enough that they appear nearly black. It pretty easy to see both colors. There is also a very subtle shimmer in this polish.

This will be a 2-3 coater depending on how you feel about VNL.

Gods Of Death Love Apples

Description: a matte lacquer filled with red shimmer

This polish dries matte but as a glossy kinda gal, I added top coat to 2 nails just to see how it looked. No regrets. …other than not doing it for the other matte polish in the collection. My bad.

My photos show Gods Of Death Love Apples in 2 coats. As a red hater, I loved this.

Misa Misa

Description: a purple-pink magnetic lacquer that reveals a black base when magnetized

Misa Misa also has slight gold shift at extreme angles.

My photos show Misa Misa in 2 coats.

Mourning Rain

Description: a matte gray lacquer filled with green shimmer

My swatches show Mourning Rain in 2 coats but I had a tiny bit of VNL. It wasn’t enough to justify a third coat IMO.

Rem’s Requiem

Description: a light pink to lavender multichrome magnetic lacquer that reveals a charcoal base filled with silver metallic flakies and reflective glitter when magnetized

As someone who’s whole personality is gold everything, I loved this. The silver flakes were so fun!

My swatches show Rem’s Requiem in 2 coats.

Ryuk Was Bored

Description: an icy silver-blue magnetic lacquer that reveals a navy blue base with reflective glitter when magnetized

This nail polish magnetized in the cat eye just looks like the most beautiful night sky to me.

My photos show Ryuk Was Bored in 2 coats.

Shinigami Realm

Description: a slate gray to silver thermal lacquer filled with icy shimmer, that transitions from a slate gray when cold to silver when warm

Shinigami Realm is another 2-3 coater. In perfectly opaque in 2 coats for the cold state but the warm state will have a little bit of VNL.

Sugarfuel Brain Calories

Description: a jam-packed with blue shimmer, candy-colored flakies, star-shaped glitter, holographic glitter, and reflective glitter

This is the star of the collection if you ask me. This is Mooncat’s first (but hopefully not last) time releasing a chunky glitter nail polish and I am in LOVE. I used 2 coats for my photos and had a bit of VNL, the third coat covers VNL but your nail will be thicc.

Sunset Over Tokyo

Description: a deep blue lacquer filled with yellow shimmer

My swatches show Sunsets Over Tokyo in 2 coats plus glossy top coat.

Final Thoughts

This was a fun collection to swatch! I love releases with multiple finishes and I am indeed a sucker for packaging. The matte black caps for these polishes 10/10!

Speaking of packaging, there is also a collection box that comes with this release as well as a sticker sheet.

My top pick is 10000% Sugarfuel Brain Calories. You already know how I feel about holographic star glitters, they are my weakness.
