Mooncat Seasons of Persephone Nail Polish Swatches & Review

Howdy friends! I have a super fun release to share with you all today! Mooncat recently released this fun collection inspired by Persephone. I believe this release is somewhere between a Valentine’s Day and anti-Valentine’s Day collection? Whatever the occasion I just loved the behind-the-scenes inspiration of this release and I just had to swatch these.

Devil’s Ivy

Description: a sage green magnetic lacquer that reveals a silver magnetic stripe

Devil’s Ivy I wasn’t sure what to expect with this polish. In the bottle, it was kinda meh to me but I actually really liked how it looked on the nail.

The formula was great, a little bit on the thicker side but easy to apply. The magnetic effect was really strong and magnetized easily. I used my ring magnet for my swatches and held the magnet on my nails for about 30 seconds per nail.

I got to wear this for a few hours when I took a break to get some housework done and didn’t find that the magnetic effect dispersed much further than it looked in my photos.

My photos show Devil’s Ivy in 2 coats plus glossy top coat, both magnetized and unmagnetized. When magnetized, the base color comes out a lot stronger.

Fields Of Elysium ​

Description: a muted sage lacquer filled with violet shimmer and micro holographic glitter

Fields Of Elysium ​The base color on this polish leans very much towards being in the prugly category and I LOVE it! The formula is a bit on the thicker side but I found application very easy.

The shimmer is gorgeous, you’ll see it a few times throughout this release. It has a violet, pink to red color shift in person. Paired with the holographic glitter, this is a winning combination.

My photos show Fields Of Elysium ​in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. The glitter does not dry down texture and removal shouldn’t be overly difficult.

I have seen quite a few people say this polish is way to similar to Garden Of Evil, that is also in this release. While both have the same shimmer the base colors, in my opinion, are different enough that I like having both options!

Freshly Bitten

Description: a rich wine red lacquer filled with purple-to-pink shimmer

Freshly Bitten The shimmer in here is so pretty. I didn’t think that I wasn’t going to care for Freshly Bitten very much but something about the shimmer got me.

Coverage was ok but not great for me in two coats. I feel like this looked best in three coats but I’ll call it passable in two.

I thought for sure that this was going to be similar to Bee’s Knees Lacquer Prince Of Hearts (Once Upon A Broken Heart), but they aren’t all that similar.

Garden Of Evil

Description: a green lacquer filled with violet shimmer and micro holographic glitter

Garden Of Evil is the second green with violet shimmer in this release but do not think it is a dupe for Fields Of Elysium! The green base is more of a mossy spring green and leans more towards being a jelly.

Because this polish is more jelly-like, it is a lot more sheer than Fields Of Elysium. It needs to be built up and your nail line will be a lot more obvious so I do think this will likely be a solid three coater.

The shimmer has a BEAUTIFUL purple, pink with red at extreme angles. I cannot stress enough how much I love how the shimmer looks in this green base. While the holographic glitter gives this a pretty sparkle, it’s more delicate and not super in your face.

My photos show Garden Of Evil in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This does dry down pretty dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. ​

Lovebomb

Description: a mauve lacquer filled with violet shimmer and micro holographic glitter

Lovebomb is another one of the polishes in this release that in the bottle, I wasn’t sure enthusiastic about. Mauves just rarely excite me and I usually have to get them on my nails to appreciate them. Which was the case for this polish.

I loved how the shimmer looked in this polish. I still stand on mauves not being my thing but throw some shimmer, a dash of holographic and you have my attention. The formula was similar to the others in this release, so slightly on the thicker side but still easy smooth application.

My photos show Lovebomb in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. The glitters do not dry down overly textured so removal will be fairly easy.

Petals For A Narcissist

Description: a sheer white-gray lacquer filled with violet pink shimmer.

Petals For A Narcissist while the brand does describe this as a sheer polish, I don’t think it’s a super sheer one. When built up, it has really great coverage and the VNL is minimal.

The formula on this was fantastic, just a little bit on the thicker end of the spectrum. The shimmer is super glowy in this polish, without giving off any brush strokes.

My photos show Petals For A Narcissist in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. On my ring finger, I used a white VNL blurring base, Blur Sauce from Sweet & Sour Lacquer (previous PR use code SweetNicole10 to save 10%). This is fairly opaque in three coats so I didn’t see a huge difference between my nails.

I preferred how this polish looked more on me in two coats than I did in three.

Queen Of The Dead

Description: a dark red thermal lacquer that transitions from a shade of deep wine red when cold to a shade of raspberry red when warm

Queen Of The Dead I *think* this is the first thermal polish Mooncat has released (we’re ignoring the ones released under Live Love Polish) and it is so good!

On my nails, this reminded me so much of having bloody nails. I know that’s morbid but that’s where my mind went! I do want to stress though that the colors this polish turns aren’t blood red, they’re both very berry leaning.

This had a great but thick formula, it was the thickest polish from the entire collection. I generally find thermals to be on the thicker side so I didn’t have any issues with application.

The thermal properties of Queen Of The Dead were very reactive. I have been wearing this for a few days and each time I look at my nails they’re a different color.

My photos show Queen Of The Dead in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I noticed after I took my photos that I did have a few dark spots on my nail that were only visible in the warm state, so I call this a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference.

I haven’t taken this one off yet to confirm but I have a feeling that this is a potential stainer as it is super pigmented.

The Trouble With Immortality

Description: a bronze metallic lacquer

The Trouble With Immortality is another one of the polishes that in the bottle I was like ‘meh’ about but once I got it on my nails I LOVED IT. It reminds me a lot of Cirque Colors Halycon but this is a true bronze and not a rose gold.

Formula wise, this was fantastic the base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. It’s a little sheer/patchy on the first coat so it does need to be build up.

I think this polish has metallic flakes in it, so they do not dry down textured but have a metallic almost reflective quality to them. I want to stress to you that this looks SO much better in person than it photographis.

My photos show The Trouble With Immortality in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal for this polish won’t be difficult but it will be pretty messy.

To All Who Ghosted Me

Description: a dusty lilac lacquer filled with blue shimmer

To All Who Ghosted Me while I would say this isn’t a very me polish, I gotta admit it is pretty damn beautiful. The greyed out base paired with the shimmer was so beautiful.

I did find that the formula was on the thicker side, application was still easy though. Coverage was pretty ok in two coats, if you don’t mind more obvious VNL it’s passable. I am going to call it a 2-3 coater depending on your personal preference.

My photos show To All Who Ghosted Me in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. The shimmer will make removal a bit messy but by no means difficult.

Final Thoughts

This was such a fun and unexpected release for me. When Mooncat had sent me over the information on it, I wasn’t sure what to think of a very green and purple heavy color story. However, seeing the polishes in person really sold me on it.

My top picks are going to be Garden Of Evil, The Trouble With Immortality and Fields Of Elysium.
