Hello friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest collection from KBShimmer. For summer 2023 we have the Sugar Rush collection. It makes my heart so happy that the polishes in this collection make a rainbow. Especially since KBShimmer’s last collection also made a rainbow.

The Sugar Rush collection will release Friday, June 16th on the KBShimmer website as well as their international stockists. If you would like to pick this collection up at a discount, I would highly recommend checking out BeyondPolish. If you use my affiliate code, NicoleLovesNails you can save an extra 10% off each polish.

As always, I will have all of the sale details and more links at the end of the blog post. Thank you to KBShimmer for sponsoring today’s post!

KBShimmer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free, vegan and cruelty free.

Feeling Good

Description: a boldly colored pink reflective nail polish.  Loaded with reflective pigment, this bright pink shade comes alive in the light, with a daring hot pink hue that will keep you staring at your nails.  In low light, darker pink twinkles with peach and gold tones.

Feeling Good I have NEVER encountered such brightly colored reflective glitters before. In bright lighting, you get a super bright pink, like if not neon it’s close. Indoors when the reflective glitters aren’t in full affect, the coloring is more of a reddish pink tone.

I found there is also a peachy/orangey/golden color thrown in there. In my macro shot, you can really see there seem to be the teeniest tiniest little peachy glitters thrown in.

The polish was a little bit on the thicker side but the application was very easy. While it was thick, it wasn’t the “wet sand” level of thickness (think some of the brand’s reflective polishes from 2021 and 2022).

Feeling Good dries down very textured thanks to those glitters so you will want to at the least double up on your top coat to smooth everything out. I opted to pair it with the KBShimmer Smooth Moves glitter top coat before my quick dry top coat (KBShimmer Clearly On Top). That combination smoothed everything out nicely for me.

My photos show Feeling Good in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be incredibly difficult if you opt to scrub this one off. Use the soak off method or a peel off base coat.

You Wanna Peach Of Me

Description: a radiant peach nail polish with an ultra-shifty shimmer. Vivid flashes of gold and orange give way to muted red and pink tones, while copper steals the show at some angles.  Holo glow flakes add a metallic sparkle for flashes of holographic twinkle

You Wanna Peach Of Me as a occasional peach polish hater, I didn’t think that I was going to like this polish as much as I did. It’s a pinky peachy base and paired with the shimmer was right up my alley.

It does start off fairly sheer so you do need to build this one up to get the most opacity. In “normal” to low lighting, the shimmer is super strong so it does a great job at hiding VNL. In brighter lighting, you will have some VNL with it. The sparkle level from the holo flakies are incredibly holographic without giving off any texture.

My photos show You Wanna Peach Of Me in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. Coverage is pretty even so if you don’t mind very obvious VNL, it’s passable in 2 coats. Nothing in here dries down textured and removal will be very easy.

Any Way You Slice It

Description: a bold orange shimmer. This vibrant orange shade twinkles in the light and easily shows off gold and yellow hues.  In lower light, a more intense orange shimmer almost hints at a coppery red, while extreme angles may even show a hint of lime.

Any Way You Slice It talk about JUICY. This is a beautiful bright juicy orange shade. It reminds me of orangey drink mixes from when I was a kid.

Coverage is pretty sheer but that sheerness really lets all of the color shifty goodness shine. I wasn’t picking up the lime color shifts in person but the others came through for me. In three coats you will still have obvious VNL but in “normal” to low lighting, the shimmer will come out and play and hide your nail line nicely.

My photos show Any Way You Slice It in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal will be incredibly messy but very easy.

Pucker Up

Description: a luminous chartreuse-leaning yellow neon nail polish.  A strong coppery orange to lime shimmer is accented by micro holo bits.  Low lighting amps up the green hue, while the shimmer shows off peach, lemony yellow and gold.

Pucker Up is another one that starts off sheer so you do need to build it up to reach its full potential. The official description is accurate. The yellow leans very chartreuse-y.

Because this polish is so sheer, even in 3 coats you will have VNL as well as being able to see your nail bed, particularly in brighter lighting. If you’re like me and have some imperfections on your nails you will be able to see them.

The shimmer is super glowy and looks really amazing in the chartreuse base. The holographic gives subtle twinkles in direct lighting without any texture.

For the best results, I do think this polish is going to be a solid 3 coater. Maybe and I mean maybe, if you use a more opaque undie you might be able to slide by with only 2 coats.

My photos show Pucker Up in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal will be very easy and I didn’t experience any staining.

Pull It Together

Description: a vibrant green in hue, this reflective shade is full of sparkle.  In lower lighting, the perfect summer green twinkles.  In more direct light or flash, a near neon lime green shows off its vibrant hue

Pull It Together is a beautiful bright green base! The base was a little bit sheerer and thinner than I expected it to be since it’s a reflective polish. Because it’s sheerer, this might have some topper potential.

I found in 2 coats I had a few spots where I could see my natural nail but I really didn’t want to add a third coat because I didn’t want the potential bulk. I think that might have been the wrong call and that I should have gone in for a third coat. However, since this is a ridiculously sparkly reflective polish, the light spot is pretty insignificant IMO.

Much like the other reflective glitter polish, I was surprised at how bright and vibrant the shade of green the reflective glitter was. If it’s not a neon green, it damn close to it. In typical reflective glitter polish fashion, the glitters do dry down very textured. Using a glitter smoothing top coat before your quick dry top coat will give the smoothest finish possible.

My photos show Pull It Together in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Again, use the soak off method or a peel off base coat for the easiest removal. Do not scrub this one off.

Cool Beans

Description: A blueberry-colored base is loaded with a striking shifty shimmer.  Boasting a strong green flash, different lighting and angles bring out teal, gold, blue, and peach.  With a slightly larger shimmer, this shade offers a subtle sparkle that enhances the jewel tones of the polish.

Cool Beans really knocked my socks off. The base color isn’t the shade of blue that I think of as a natural blueberry. It’s brighter and bluer, so maybe like a cartoon-y blueberry?

The shimmer is so strong and so glowy! It’s a larger particle size so it is very sparkly. I was seeing all of the described colors. Cool Beans is a bit on the sheerer side. I didn’t really see that big of a jump in the level of opacity or depth of color between 2 coats and 3.

My photos show Cool Beans in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I thought for sure this was going to be a stainer but I didn’t experience any staining.

Put A Ring On It

Description: a vibrant, teal-leaning blue nail polish. Glowy holographic flakes dance within the blue base to add a bit of sparkle, while blue and aqua shimmer pops to bring out purple and indigo hues in different lighting and angles.

Put A Ring On It trying to describe what color this polish is SO hard! It’s something between a teal and a blue with the shimmer thrown in an aqua. It’s one of those colors that look drastically different depending on the angle/lighting/light source.

I expected Put A Ring On It to be sheerer than it ended up being. I reached full opacity with it in just 2 coats. I found in person the polish has a slight metallic look to it but not like brush stroke-y metallic.

My photos show Put A Ring On It in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Nothing in here dries down textured and removal will be very easy. This was another one that I expected some staining but didn’t get any.

That’s Just Grape

Description: a striking indigo nail polish paying homage to grape flavored candies.  Micro flake-like, color-shifting shimmer amps up the purple hue, while some angles show off flashes of blue and fuchsia.

That’s Just Grape is another one of the sheers in this release. Even with 3 coats, you will have very obvious VNL with it.

I would have put this in the blue to blurple family and not in the indigo. I recognize that is splitting hairs but you know me, I like to nitpick sometimes.

The shimmer is truly beautiful and fairly sparkly. I do think because this one is so sheer, it will likely be a solid 3 coater to get the same color on the nail that you see in the bottoel

My photos show That’s Hyst Grape in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.

Such A Smartie

Description: a faded purple polish loaded with color-shifting shimmer and linear holographic sparkle.  In lower lighting, a rainbow of hues can be seen, with pink, gold, lime, and blue playing against the lavender background.  In bright light, the lime, gold and peach tones pop against the linear holographic rainbow.

Such A Smartie had a beautiful formula. I can’t stress enough how much I love it when a linear holographic has an added shimmer to it! You get the best of both worlds no matter how bright or dark your light source is.

The base was a little sheer on the first coat but the shimmer really added a lot to the opacity of this polish. The shimmer has a near rainbow of color shifts to it and of course that holographic is STRONG.

My photos show Such A Smartie in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I can see folks with longer nails wanting a third coat. Nothing in here will dry down textured or being difficult to remove.

I have a feeling someone might be curious at how this compares to Holo Taco’s Toe Beans (Holo Taco Holo Royalty Debut Trio). The base colors between the two are different, Toe Beans being lighter and Such A Smartie being warmer in tone The biggest difference is that the shimmer in Such A Smartie is more color shifty.

Final Thoughts

Um WOW?? Ok ok I know, I see rainbow and I immediately fall in love but this collection was SO fun! As always, I loved the variety of finishes within the release and I LOVED that the polishes made a rainbow for the collage.

Usually, I want neon everything from a summer collection but these were bright enough that my need for brights was fulfilled. I also really appreciate that KBShimmer’s reflective glitters have thinned out a little bit since they were first introduced. While they are still on the thicker side for nail polish, they are normal glitter level of thickness and not wet sand thickness.

My favorites from this release are going to be Put A Ring On It, Cool Beans, Feeling Good and Pull It Together. Let me know down in the comments which polish was your favorite from this release!
