Hi friends! Today I am sharing the newest release from Holo Taco. In my personal, sparkly-polish-loving opinion, this is one of the more exciting releases they have done recently. We have 3 polishes in various shades of purple with each having a different specialty finish.
At the time of posting, all of these polishes are available on the Holo Taco website but these are limited edition so they won’t be around forever. As always, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post.

Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.
Glamethyst
Description: a light purple holographic glitter and green shimmer polish
Glamethyst this polish surprised me quite a bit. I didn’t realize based on the photos from promotions that this had shimmer in it! The shimmer is a little finicky when it comes to getting it to pop up for phot
The formulation was very thick. I found the application pretty easy but I was surprised at how thick it was. This is jam-packed with glitters so the thickness isn’t that surprising but it is one of the thicker glitter formulations by this brand that I have tried.
The holographic glitters are super duper sparkly! The thickness does seem to aid in opacity and coverage was pretty good in 2 coats. I found I had a few lights spots that I didn’t look great in photos so I added a third coat to my swatches.
My photos show Glamethyst in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. One coat of the Holo Taco Super Glossy Taco seemed to smooth these out completely for me. However, I do think to keep the glossy finish a second coat of top coat will be needed.
Comparison: Glitterally Purple on my pointer finger, Glamethyst on my middle nail, Purple Flakie Holo Taco. At first glance, this polish is fairly similar to Glitterally Purple (GP) but GP has a variety of glitter colors and sizes. Both Glitterally Purple and Purple Flakie Holo Taco have been discontinued by the brand.
Royal Crush
Description: a medium purple frosted metal polish with scattered holographic pigment
Royal Crush in typical frosted metals formula, photos do not do Royal Crush justice. I found in person it has a very foil/metallic look that truly surprised me at how beautiful it was. I feel like in nearly every photo I have seen of it, mine included, it looks more flat and lacking dimension.
The formulation was really good. The base didn’t feel overly thick, and everything spread out very evenly. It was a little sheer on the first coat but I found I did reach pretty good opacity with 2 coats.
To my eyes, this was opaque in 2 coats but my camera was able to pick up on the sheerness that my eyes weren’t able to. So dpeneding on personal preference, this will be a 2-3 coater.
My photos show Royal Crush in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Nothing in here dries down textured removal will be pretty mesy but not super difficult.
Comparison: on my pointer finger is Blacklisted (Holo Taco 3rd Anniversary Gala Collection), on my middle nail is Royal crush and on my ring finger is Purple Slushie. I wasn’t sure what to compare this polish to as it is Holo Taco first purple frosted metal.
Toe Beans
Description: a pale pink linear holographic and pink shimmer polish
Toe Beans every time I think I am over a linear holo, I get one on my nails and am reminded at just how beautiful they are. This polish is really gorgeous.
I didn’t realize from photos that this polish also had a shimmer effect to it. The shimmer is also a pale pink so it is a easy to miss if you don’t look closely.
The base is a little sheer but that sheerness allows the holographic to really shine. Since this is a smooth linear holo pigment, it does not dry down textured but you will need top coat to give it a glossy finish.
My photos show Toe Beans in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Coverage was pretty good for me in 2 coats but I did have some VNL with this in bright lighting. The strength of the holo flame largely distracted from the VNL but it was there. A third coat should solve that issue.
Removal will be very easy for this polish, just slightly messy.
Comparison: I have Holo Taco Pink Fizz on my pointer, Toe Beans on my middle nail and Pink Steel (One Coat Chrome) on my ring finger. This is the palest pink of the Holo Taco pinks that I personally own. It is very similar in color to Holo Taco’s Menchie The Cat though.
Final Thoughts
I feel like it’s been quite a while since I was this excited about a Holo Taco drop. The glitters and flakies totally got me! When voting went out for these, I had high hopes that we would get some interesting combinations. Ok I really just wanted something like Existential Crisis or at least something with glitter and shimmer which is what we got so I am a happy camper.
My only disappointment with this release is that it is limited edition. I wish it wasn’t because these need to stick around for ever or at least a few months.
My top pick without a doubt is Glamethyst!
