Hi friends! Today I am sharing some swatches for the newest Holo Royalty collection from Holo Taco called Disco Cowboy. I believe this is the third year that Holo Taco is releasing these collections that get voted on by the folks in the Loyal-Tea Rewards program.
The Disco Cowboy collection is available right now on the Holo Taco website. Holo Taco is also available at Ulta stores. There is also a pretty great sale happening, I’ll give more sale information at the end of the post!
Live Swatches
Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.
Bless Your Heart
Description: Berry pink holographic glitter
I know I am a sucker for a glitter bomb but dang this is pretty. The formula was very much on the thicker side which is to be expected with a polish that is nothing but glittery goodness.
The glitters are both top coat thirsty and dry down textured so you will want multiple layers of top coat to smooth everything out. I opted to pair this with a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my quick dry top coat.
My photos show Bless Your Heart in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I highly recommend using the soak off method or a peel off base coat to remove this one. I used the Holo Taco peel off base coat for my swatches.
Cowboy Tears
Description: Turquoise crushed holographic with pink-purple micro-shimmer
This polish was very much on the too-thick-for-me-personally side. I did end up adding some thinner to it and that made working with it a lot easier.
I found Cowboy Tears to be one of those funny shades of turquoise where it looks very blue up until you put it near other blues and discover that it is in fact a turquoise.
My photos show Cowboy Tears in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I’ll call it a 2-3 coater as I did have a little bit of VNL.
Disco Inferno
Description: a hot orange frosted metal with gold scattered holo
Disco Inferno is a one of those oranges that leans very strongly towards to red. I have pretty warm undertones in my hands so this pulled very red toned on me. I almost always dislike oranges in this color family BUT the addition of the gold glitter and the fact that the flakies also look gold… well y’all know how I feel about gold. Instant love!
My only complaint (??) is that the gold glitter is really sparse so you don’t get a ton of it on the nail. I think when I wear this again I would probably add a gold reflective glitter topper to it.
My photos show Disco Inferno in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This is another 2-3 coater depending on personal preference.
Moonlit Rodeo
Description: a purple jelly with cyan micro-shimmer and scattered holo
The holographic in Moonlit Rodeo is also on the more delicate side. The shimmer doesn’t show brush strokes.
My photos show Moonlit Rodeo in 3 coats but this will be a 2-3 coater depending on your application style. For my live swatch video I had pretty good coverage in 2 coats.
Sparkling Spurs
Description: a warm lilac purple crushed holographic
If you are looking at this and thinking to yourself that it looks like a flakie version of Holo Taco’s Menchie The Cat, you would be wrong. I have comparisons of the two over in my live swatch video. Sparkling Spurs is one of those pinky purples that will look like it might be pink up until you get it next to a pink.
My photos show Sparkling Sputs in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I will call this one a 2-3 coater depending on your application but I did find the third coat deepened the base color.
Final Thoughts
I thought this was a fun collection. I always feel like having a collection that features a whole bunch of mixed finishes makes swatching them be a lot more fun. The color story on this also feels pretty atypical from Holo Taco which is also appreciated.
My top pick is surprisingly but maybe not surprisingly going to be Disco Inferno. I do love the frosted metals polishes but I am sure someone will figure that it was the gold in that one that really got me. What did you think of this collection? Let me know!
