Live Swatch Video
Hella Handmade Creations is a monthly indie polish collaboration. Makers each pick their own theme and make a series of polishes based on that theme. Each month brands have a new polish, that is exclusive to the Hella Handmade Creations website.
Color Spectrum Polish – Googly Bear
Theme/Inspiration: Monsters, Inc/Mike Wazowski
Description: a green base with green shimmers, green to gold to purple color shifting flakies, and a green magnetic strike
Price: $12.50 for 13ml | Cap: 100
Googly Bear had a fantastic formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The shimmer effect was very strong and I didn’t see any brush strokes in person. The flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off any texture.
I found this magnetized very easily for me. I used a ring magnet for my swatch photos and a bar magnet for my live swatch video. I only magnetized my final coat with this polish.
My photos show Googly Bear in 3 coats plus top coat. On my ring finger, the polish is unmagnetized and on my thumb, it is in 1 coat over black.

Cupcake Polish – Monica
Theme/Inspiration: Wandavision
Description: a periwinkle blue nail polish filled with blue/purple/pink shifting aurora shimmer and holographic flakies
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None
Monica had a really great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any problems with application.
The shimmer effect in this polish GLOWS off of the nail. I was seeing the shimmer colors as described. The holo flakies all spread out evenly without giving off any texture. They were also very holographic.
My photos show Monica in 3 coats plus top coat. It will be a 2-3 coater depending on nail length. Longer nails will likely want to use 3 coats for full opacity.

Girly Bits Cosmetics – Working In The Wild
Theme/Inspiration: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Description: a charcoal grey base filled with glowing holographic pigment and holographic micro-flakes
Price: $13.50 for 15ml | Cap: 200
Working In The Wild had a fantastic formula. It felt slightly on the thicker side of normal but not at all overly thick. It applied very easily and was very opaque.
The holographic flakies all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any texture. This polish is very holographic!
My photos show Working In The Wild in 2 coats plus top coat. Removal won’t be overly difficult but it will be messy if you scrub this polish off.

Hearts & Promises – April Showers
Theme/Inspiration: Holidays/Seasons
Description: a light violet holo polish with subtle red shimmer
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: 200
April Showers had a really great jelly formula. It starts off a little sheer but it applies evenly and easily. Both the shimmer effect and linear holo were very strong.
I found in person, this leaned more of a periwinkle than a violet. I had a tricky time getting it photographed as my hands looked super red in all of my photos.
My photos show April Showers in 3 coats plus top coat. If you don’t mind obvious VNL, this polish is passable in 2 coats. The third coat makes this 100% opaque.

Heather’s Hues – I Saw Stars
Theme/Inspiration: Billie Eilish
Description: a brown black to green thermal filled with a mix of matte black and neon green glitters and a touch of black holo star glitters.
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: None
I Saw Stars had a really great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. All of the glitters spread out very evenly.
I found the star glitters were a bit more sparse so I mainly got 1 out on each nail. The day I was swatching this, I honestly didn’t feel like doing any glitter fishing so I just applied the polish as it came out on the brush. If you hold this upsidedown between coats, you will get more stars out on the nail.
The thermal aspect started changing on me right away. I found the warm state to be like a bright slime green and the cold state is a *very* dark greenish brown that is basically black.
My photos show I Saw Stars in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. The star glitters will give this a bit more texture but I think 1 coat of top coat would be fine if you aren’t overly picky.
Removal will be on the more difficult side due to the glitters. Soaking it off or pairing it with a peel off base coat will be the easiest removal.
Heather’s Hues – WiTS in Cinnamon Bun
Theme/Inspiration: Adventure Time
Description: a scrumptious blend of cinnamon, cassis, clove, and sugar, blended with baked dough and buttery notes, all topped with a maple vanilla and buttercream glaze.
Price: $7.50 for 2 ounces | Cap: 40
This month’s sent is a warm spice lover’s dream! As someone who LOVES cinnamon, I was head over heels about this scent. I found that my nose was mainly picking up the cinnamon and cloves with the baked dough/buttery notes coming in second.

LynB Designs – Rhombus of Doubt
Theme/Inspiration: Properties of Polygons
Description: magenta/red based multichrome that shifts from blue to teal to purple with scattered holo flakies
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: 100
Rhombus of Doubt had a wonderful formula. It was very sheer on me and the base color gave a reddish/coral wash of color on the nail.
The multichrome had a pastel look on the nail. I was seeing the colors as described. The holo flakies were very holographic and dried down smooth.
I used 3 coats for my photos. I had obvious VNL with this polish but I loved it! This is sheer enough you can use it as a topper.

MTK Designs – Mother’s Day Gift Set (Polishes Only)
Description: Mitera is a rose (warm) to blurple (cool) thermal with matching shifting sparkles & flakies in gold/ruby/amethyst and a bit of rose iridescent micro flakies.
Hahaoya is all of those sparkles from Mitera set free without any other colors to interfere. It is fiercely sparkly, but delicate like a pearl. Designed as a topper, but so saturated that enough coats (like 3) will build to opacity.
The full gift set will also include a Stickpin and pair of earrings
Price: $35| Cap: 35
Mitera had a fantastic formula. The thermal aspect started changing on me right away. The flakies all spread out very evenly and without giving off any texture. There were a few larger flakies in here as well.
Both the warm and cold states were as described in my opinion. My photos show Mitera in 3 coats plus top coat. Nothing in here will dry texture but the polish does dry flat.
Hahaoya also had a fantastic formula. Since it is a topper, it was on the more sheer side. All of the opacity is from the flakies and shimmer so I did have some VNL after 3 coats.
The clear base really lets the shimmer and flakies shine so this was very color shifty. In person, I was seeing magneta/pink, gold, to yellow color shift.
My phoo
My photos show Hahaoy in 3 coats on it’s own and in 1 coat over black.

Music City Beauty – Patty O’Green
Theme/Inspiration: the Rainbow Bright: The Color Kids
Description: a medium green scattered holographic with green to gold color shifting shimmer.
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: 150
Patty O’Green had a really great formula. This polish is very opaque so I could see shorter nails being good with 1 coat. The holographic element was strong. I found my usual swatch lighting didn’t really show the holo the best but I was able to see it in person.
The shimmer effect gave this polish a slight metallic look on the nail. I was seeing a orange, gold to green colorshift.
My photos show Patty O’Green in 2 coats plus top coat.

Red Eyed Lacuqer – Reptiglow
Theme/Inspiration: Bioluminescent Animals
Description: a blurple crelly with green shifting shimmer and a blurple glow
Price: $12.50 for 12ml | Cap: 100
Reptiglow also had a fantastic formula. It started off a little sheer but I found it built up nicely. The shimmer effect has a red, gold to green color shift. To my eye, this polish leans very blue/teal.
I charged this polish up using a blacklight flashlight. I did end the day swatching with this polish and found that when it was time for bed, my nails were glowing in the dark.
This polish had that slight textured feel that glow-in-the-dark polish is often had. But nothing that wouldn’t be smooth as complete with one coat of top coat.
My photos show Reptiglow in 3 coats plus top coat.
Red Eyed Lacquer – Da Balmer in Under My Tiny Umbrella
Description: a tropical blend blood oranges, sweet pineapples, mandarin, a hint of cherry, a dash of effervescence, and a hint of vanilla
Price: $7.50 for 1 ounce | Cap: 100
This month’s fragrance is SO deliciously fruity!!

A note on thermal/solar polishes…
I want to note that thermal and solar polishes do have a shelf life on how long they will change colors. Generally, they are guaranteed to change colors for at least 6. My oldest thermal that still transitions is from 2018.
To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
