Hi friends! I know summer only just officially started like 2 weeks ago but I am already over it. It has been so humid here for the past week and a half! I forgot how miserable I feel when the humidity just won’t break.

So today’s blog post is for the July 2023 Hella Handmade Creations. This will be a little bit shorter this month as I decided to take it easy for July because of the Expo coming up as well as July being the month where mainstream brands start dropping their summer collections.

Hella Handmade Creations is a monthly indie polish collaboration. Makers each pick their own theme and make a series of polishes based on that theme. Each month brands have a new polish, that is exclusive to the Hella Handmade Creations website.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer – Groovy

Theme: Ice Nine Kills
Inspiration: the Ex Mortis
Description: a soft blue polish with strong gold to green shimmer
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None

Groovy just look at that shimmer!! I just love me a good strong golden shimmer and Groovy is that in spades! In person, I was mainly seeing an orange to gold color shift, with green only coming in a very extreme angles.

This is a very sheer polish so you will have obvious VNL with it, even in 3 coats. To my eye, the blue base leans a little bit grey. Since this is such a sheer polish, you can use it as a topper or on its own.

My photos show Groovy in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Nothing in here will be difficult to remove and I had no issues with staining.

Music City Beauty – Moss Agate

Theme: Gemstones
Inspiration: Moss Agate
Description: a moss green with white shimmer and gold flakies
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: 100 bottles

Moss Agate I feel like this polish skirts the line between being a pretty polish and a prugly one. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful and I love prugly shades, but it does seem to come close to being a prugly.

Formula and application were both fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised that I reached full opacity with only 2 coats. The flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off any real texture. They give the polish a very antique look.

My photos show Moss Agate in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I had a tiny bit of VNL on one of my fingers so I will call this one a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference and application. The third coat deepens the base color just a tiny amount but I would say it is necessary to do.

Night Owl Lacquer – The Cats, They Know

Theme: Gilmore Girls
Description: a linear holographic multichrome that shifts violet/mauve/gold/green
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: 240 bottles

The Cats, They Know I knew that I was going to love this polish as soon as I saw the bottle! Multichrome + holo will always be a winning combination to me.

I found this polish had a fantastic formula. Once again I was surprised at how great coverage was in just 2 coats. The multichrome was super color shifty, didn’t show brush strokes and was as described. The green color shift came in at very extreme angles.

The Hella Handmade Creations store opens on the 14th of every month at 12:01am Eastern Time and closes on the 21st at 11:59pm HST (4:59AM Eastern time on the 22nd). All items sold are on a pre-order basis and won’t ship until around 4 weeks after the sale period.
