Today’s blog post features the new January duo by Heather’s Hues! Each month, members of the Heather’s Hues Facebook group vote on photos and Heather turns those photos into nail polish! The theme for January is Winter. Both of these polishes are available now on the Heather’s Hues website. I’ll have links at the end of this post where you can purchase these. Be sure to check out YouTube channel for live swatches!
If you haven’t heard of this brand before, Heather’s Hues is a indie nail polish brand. Their polishes are handmade in the USA, 5 free, vegan, and cruelty free. Heather’s Hues also has a variety of other handmade items available, including my favorite lotion (WiTS), cuticle balm, and even wax melts! Heather’s Hues has been featured on my blog many many times. I currently own almost 200 of her polishes!
Disclaimer: I was sent these products as PR in exchange for photographs and an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight/LED bulbs and outdoors in natural light. I used the KB Shimmer Clearly On Top glossy top coat and the Glisten & Glow Matte top coat for my photos.
On the Fence About Winter
Description: a gray crelly filled with a red-copper-gold shimmer, a mix of glitters in silver, brown, copper, and red, and a touch of multichrome flakes in red-copper-bronze and gold-silver.
On the Fence About Winter had a great formula. It had a good consitency that wasn’t too thick or too thin. It was a little sheer on the first coat but it builds up well on it’s own. This is a medium grey crelly. You get a good amount of glitters and flakies on the nail without having to fish for them. I didn’t notice a difference in the amount of glitter on the brush between holding the bottle upside for a few minutes. My personal prefference for glitter/flakie crellies is to do 3 coats to get the most glitter/flakie bang for my buck but this looks good in 2 coats as well. My photos show it in 3 coats. Only 1 layer of top coat is needed for a smooth finish.
Snowy Skies
Description: a thermal that is purple when cold and teal green when warm. It’s filled with a teal-blue-violet shimmer, holo dust and holo flakes, and iridescent flakes teal-green-blue-pink and teal-violet-fuschia.
Snowy Skies also had a great formula. It wasn’t thick or thin. It applies similarly to a jelly polish so it does need to be built up. You could probably wear this as a topper but I don’t know over what base color. The flakies spread out evenly and you won’t need to do anything special to get them where you want them. This comes ALIVE with top coat! I used 3 coats for my photos. It dries down pretty smooth so only 1 coat of top coat is needed.
Note: I had some VNL with this on some angles. I think on natural nails the warm state might show vnl.

Final Thoughts
It always amazes me how Heather is able to turn photos into nail polish. She really nails (no pun intended) the colors each time. If I was going to pick a favorite, it would be On The Fence About Winter. I love glitter crellies and grey polishes are a weakness of mine. However Snowy Skies is really gorgeous too.
