Heather’s Hues Monthly Duo | April 2021

[PR / Post Disclosure Page]

Hello my nail friends! This is my first post I am writing after getting married on April 3rd. I will have a blog post up with photos from the wedding soon. This is also the first post I am writing on the new server. I moved the blog over from wordpress.com (it was a terrible experience) so things are a little different over here but I am working daily on getting everything from the old blog over here so bear with me!

Oh and you saw that image right, I do have shorties (for me lol) for these swatches! I chopped my nails (BRIEFLY before the wedding) so there will be some posts coming up that feature just my natural nails.

Today’s post is for the April 2021 monthly duo by Heather’s Hues! The theme for April is ‘Springtime’ and my fellow Hue-T-Pies picked out some fantastic photos for Heather to turn in to polishes. This duo is available now on the Heather’s Hues website. As always, I will have links down below on to where you can purchase these.

Heather’s Hues is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade in 15ml bottles, 5 free, vegan and cruelty-free!

Not-So-Empty Nest

Description: a holo base with taupe shimmer, filled with an assortment of flakes and glitters in gold, bronze, turquoise, and magenta.

Not-So-Empty Nest had a wonderful formula. It applied similar to a glitter heavy jelly polish. The glitters all spread out evenly and easily, without needing to do anything special for great coverage.

The taupe shimmer gives this polish a taupey/grey look with the linear holo a nice addition in the background. I found that the flakies and glitters were the star of the show in this polish and the holo. This had good coverage in 2 coats but I wanted more glitters, so I went in for 3 coats.

This dries down just slightly textured. I think 1 coat of top coat should smooth it out nicely but I opted to go in 2 coats (1 being a glitter eating top coat) just to make sure it was perfectly smooth. Removal will be tricky, I reccomend soaking it off.

Note: I tweaked my lighting a bit for some of these photos to try to show off the holographic element.

Spring Tulips

Description: a bright green base filled with a mix of glitters in every color and a hint of emerald and gold flakes.

Spring Tulips had a great crelly formula. It is BRIGHT! I would go ahead and call it an almost-neon if not an actual neon as it does glow under blacklight.

It had a normal thickness as to be expected for having so many glitters in it. As with the previous polish, I didn’t hold the bottle upside down or do anything special for the glitter coverage.

This has good even coverage in 2 coats but to get the color you see in the bottle, you will want to go in for a third coat. This dries down slightly textured so I opted to go in for 2 coats of top coat.

Final Thoughts

I LOVED these polishes! When I saw the inspiration photos (they’re on the website and Facebook Group) I immediately knew I was going to love the polish that turned out to be Spring Tulips. It was so bright and colorful and that’s kind of my thing. I was pleasantly surprised with Not-So-Empty Nest. If I had to pick one, it would be Spring Tulips just based on my own preference (bright AF + lots glitter). However, these were both fantastic.
