Hey friends! Happy New Year! My first swatch and review for the year is this beautiful limited edition collection by Glam Polish. This is a 6 piece collection that is inspired by the legends of King Arthur.
The collection launches on January 7th on the Glam Polish website. It is a limited edition collection so I’m not 100% sure if it will be restocked or not. Enchanting Merlin
Under holo friendly lighting
Description: off white holo with platinum flakies, gold flakies and chrome pigment.
Enchanting Merlin had a really great crelly formula. The flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off any noticeable texture. The base on this polish is an off white that leans grey. There is a linear holographic pigment in here that gives off some subtle rainbows under direct lighting.
Since I swatched this during a rainstorm, I tweaked my lighting in photo #5 to try to show off those rainbows.
I swatched Enchanting Merlin in 2 coats. This polish dries a little dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. Nothing in here will be difficult to remove.
King Arthur
Description: a clear base with aurora shimmer, gold metallic flakies, sapphire and red metallic glitter.
King Arthur had a wonderful formula. The aurora shimmer had a very strong red to gold to green color shift. The flakies and glitters all spread out very evenly without giving off much texture.
To reach full opacity, you will want to wear this polish in 3 coats. My photos show King Arthur in 3 coats. Since the base is clear, this will make for an excellent topper. I also. swatched it in 1 coat over black (Heather’s Hues Shadow).
This polish didn’t dry down super textured so I just used 1 coat of top coat for my photos. I had this polish on for about 24 hours and didn’t find the glitters to be very top coat hungry. Removal will be on the tricky side if you try to scrub this polish off.
Morgan le Fay
Description: a Indigo jelly with aurora shimmer, shifting iridescent flakies neon green glitter mix and ultra holo glitter
Morgan le Fay had a really great formula. Since it’s a jelly, it did starts off a little sheer. The glitters and flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off much texture. I did still pair this polish with a glitter smoothing top coat BUT I don’t know for sure if that was 100% necessary.
The shimmer effect in this polish has a red to gold to green color shift. And it looks SO pretty! The flakies and glitters give this a gorgeous sparkle on the nail.
I found this polish looked best in 3 coats. In 2 coats, it was still a little bit sheer. It had good coverage but it was sheer. My photos show Morgan le Fay in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat.
This will likely be a pain to remove if you try to scrub it off. I soaked it off with no issues.
Queen Guinevere
Description: a pastel Lavender with platinum flakies, metallic gold flakies and tiny purple flakies.
Queen Guinevere had a fantastic crelly formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The flakies all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off texture.
The platinum flakes give this a very regal look on the nail. I swatched Queen Quinevere in 2 coats. I had a *very* slight amount of VNL on the clear part of my nail. I thought it looked beautiful in 2 coats but if you have long nails like me, you might want to go in for a third depending on your own preference.
Nothing in here dried textured nor will it be overly difficult to remove. I soaked this off with no issues.
Sir Lancelot
With holo friendly lighting
Description: a black base with strong blue aurora shimmer and silver ultra holo glitter mix
Sir Lancelot had a wonderful formula. It starts off a little sheer but builds up quickly. The glitters in here spread out very evenly and easily with minimal texture. The shimmer is VERY strong and doesn’t show brush strokes.
This is going to be one of those polishes where the shimmer is so strong, you don’t really see the base color. In person, this looks like a very dark blue base with a brighter blue shimmer.
Sir Lancelot will be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length. Shorter nails will likely be good in 2 coats. Longer nails will want to go in for 3 coats. I used 3 coats for my photos.
While this didn’t feel super textured on me while I was swatching it, I did pair it with a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my usual quick dry top coat. I don’t know if that was 100% necessary.
Removal will likely be on the tricky side due to the glitters. I soaked this off with no problems.
Tristan & Isolde
With holo friendly lighting
Description: Pastel Pink with platinum flakies, ultra holo glitter and holo microglitter.
Tristan & Isolde had a beautiful crelly formula. This base color is a soft (stereotypical) princess-y pastel pink shade. I found this made my hands look warmer in tone than usual. The flakies and glitters all spread out very evenly and easily without giving off any texture.
The holographic glitters give this a really pretty sparkle and the flakes add a touch of reality.
Because of the pastel nature of this polish, it was a bit more streaky than the other polishes in this release. I found it needed 3 coats to reach full opacity with minimal light spots. I noticed that once I top coated, I wasn’t able to see light spots like I was prior to top coating.
My photos show Tristran & Isolde in 3 coats. Nothing in here dried down textured. I didn’t experience any problems soaking it off for removal.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed this collection. I am not the biggest fan of pastels but I can get behind pastels that have flakies and holographic elements. I really liked how regal the pastel shades looked.
I was actually really surprised that I liked Morgan le Fay as much as I did. In the bottle, I was kinda meh about it but on the nail, it was really something special. So that will be my top pick along with King Arthur.
