Hey friends! I am kinda geeking out about today’s blog post. I have the August 2022 Fandom Flakies box to share with you all. This is the very first time I am featuring this collab box on my blog. I have been a customer of picking up this box for quite a while now so it’s kinda wild that I am going to be swatching for FF now!
So if you are new, Fandom Flakies is a monthly collaboration between Bee’s Knees Lacquer and Night Owl Lacquer. Each month has a new fandom inspired theme with a special guest maker to round out the box to 3 polishes. Ribbit Stickits is also featured with those two brands each month.
For August, the guest brand is Nailed It and the theme is Mortal Kombat! As always, I will have links and sale information at the end of this post.

Bee’s Knees – Get Over Here
Description: a silver holo base with orange to green and pink to gold iridescent flakes as well as a scattering of black flakes.
Get Over Here had a fantastic formula. The base felt slightly on the thicker side of normal but not surprisingly so since this has a ton of flakies in it. It applied very easily and fairly opaquely. The flakies make this very full coverage so I do not think it will be great as a topper.
I originally thought the black flakes were irregular sized glitters but they aren’t textured like glitter shreds. One coat of top coat smoothed this polish out nicely for me but I could potentially see these as being a little top coat hungry after a day or two of wear time.
This polish was also EXTRMELY holographic. Sadly it was really overcast the day I was swatching this one so my outdoor shots don’t quite showcase just how super holographic this one is. Like the holo base plus the flakies just made this polish absolutely stunning to wear.
My photos show Get Over Here in 2 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. Removal will be very messy if you opt to scrub this polish off. I used a peel off base coat.

Night Owl Lacquer – Dark Fantasy
Description: a cobalt blue filled with black/red multichrome micro flakies and holographic micro flakies.
Dark Fantasy also had a fantastic formula that was just slightly on the thicker side. However, I will note that it was also incredibly humid the day I was swatching this polish so that might also be a factor in thickness. I still found the polish easy to work with and didn’t have any application issues.
The dark base paired with the microflakes made this look like it has a red color shift. The microflakes do not dry down textured but like the previous polish, I could potentially see needing a second coat of top coat for extended wear. I used 1 coat of glossy top coat and that seemed to smooth it out nicely.
In the sunlight, this polish was just super holographic and the holo really popped from the dark blue base. I thought this one was going to be a stainer but I didn’t experience any staining with it. I would still recommend base coat to prevent staining on natural nails.
My photos show Dark Fantasy in 2 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. This polish dries down pretty flat so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. Removal won’t be overly difficult but the flakies will be fairly messy.

Nailed It – Kiss Of Death
Description: a magenta base with purple/blue and pink/gold crystal flakies.
Kiss Of Death had a fantastic jelly formula. This polish was a little bit on the more sheer side so I think this will likely be a solid 3 coater to reach full opacity.
The flakies spread out evenly and look so beautiful all layered up. I found I could see a few larger-sized flakies but they do not give off any noticeable texture.
One coat of top coat smoothed Kiss Off Death but I could potentially see you needed a second coat of top coat after a day or two of wear time since this is a very densely packed flakie polish.
They will likely make removal a bit messy but not overly difficult.

Ribbits Stickits
Along with the main 3 polish box, Ribbits Stickits will also have some items. There will be a really cool holographic Vinyl Sticker ($4), Water Slide Decals ($7), hand cream in the scent ‘This Fight Will Be Your Last’ ($7.50), and acetone additive ($4.50).
Holographic vinyl sticker $4
Hand Cream $7.50
Scent Description: “This Fight Will Be Your Last”
Grapefruit Mojito: mint, lime, pineapple, tangerine, rum, ozone, ginger, green leaves, vanilla, sugar – includes grapefruit, mandarin, orange, lemon, thyme, bergamot, and buchu leaf, spearmint, eucalyptus, cornmint, armoise, tangerine, galbanum, and ginger essential oils
Waterslide decals $7
I found the waterslide decals easy to work this despite being very rusty on using them. In hindsight, I think I should have added a layer of white polish behind the decals to make them pop over the busy bases?
The decals do some with very detailed instructions so if you are a little rusty/new to using these, make sure not to toss those out when you open your package but if you do, the Ribbits Stickits website has a how-to page over here.

Final Thoughts
This month’s box was really fun! All 3 polishes are colors that I would purchase for myself. I won’t be doing a top pick as since you kinda have to buy all 3 to get 1, I don’t think that’s really fair?
I will say, when I was going back to edit my photos I kept getting distracted by just how stupidly beautiful each polish was. If only one or two of the polishes get you going, be sure to check out the Facebook Group as there is a thread for people to split boxes!
I must say I am pretty dang excited to be adding these boxes to my monthly blog/videos. I regularly purchase the Fandom Flakies box but never review them as I always feel bad posting about things that aren’t available anymore.
