Fandom Flakies February 2023 | Doctor Strange

[Sponsored Content – Post Disclosure Page]

Hi friends! Today’s blog post is for the February Fandom Flakies box. While I am not a huge Marvel fan, I do love the movies and tv shows so I was pretty excited about the theme this month!

For February, the theme is Doctor Strange and the guest maker this month is Kathleen & Co. This is also the first blog post featuring only swatches of my shorties. I am still really digging having shorter nails by the way.

All of the products featured in today’s blog post were sent to me by Fandom Flakies for the purpose of swatching and reviewing. This post is also sponsored. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

As always, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post!

Fandom Flakies is a monthly indie collaboration between Bee’s Knees Lacquer, Night Owl Lacquer and Ribbits Stickits. Each month has a guest maker, a new theme and polishes are exclusive to the box.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer – I Do It and I Become The Enemy

Description:  a rich red polish with red to green multichrome flakes, holo flakes, and a scattering of matte black flakes.

I Do It and I Become The Enemy had a fantastic formula. This is in a jelly base so you will want to build it up to reach full opacity.

I am not generally one for a red base but the flakies in here really had my digging my nails. There was just something about the black flakies that just pulled me right in. The holo flakies were very holographic and the black flakies gave this a grungy kinda feeling.

This polish SCREAMS Wanda aka the Scarlet Witch. That this polish looked like the inspiration really made me like it even more!

My photos show I Do It and I Become The Enemy in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. It will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. I found the third coat deepened the base color by just a hair but coverage was passable in two coats for me.

Nothing in here will dry down textured or be overly difficult to remove. I didn’t experience any staining.

Night Owl Lacquer – It’s Not About You

Description: a black base glowing with gold/bronze/copper/green micro flakie shimmer and holographic micro flakies

It’s Not About You had a fantastic formula. The base started off a little sheer but it built up really nicely for me. While the base color is black, the shimmer gives the polish a more greenish tone.

The shimmer has a golden/copper to green color shift. The holo flakies do not dry down textured and were very holographic, even in my not great for holo indoor room lighting.

Like I always say, I am usually against adding a matte top coat to a holographic polish except for holo flakies. However, no surprise but this looked amazing with a matte top coat.

My photos show It’s Not About You in 2 coats plus both glossy and matte top coat. Longer nails will likely want to go in for a third coat.

Kathleen & Co – Gap Junction

Description: a purple base with holo flecks, pink and orange iridescent flakes, aqua/blue iridescent microflakes and black matte flakes

Gap Junction had a great formula. This polish is more jelly-like so you will want to build it up to get the most opacity. I do this think polish will be a 2-3 coater depending on nail length and personal preference. Coverage was pretty good for me in two coats but I liked the depth of color that I got with a third coat.’

The flakies all spread out very evenly and easily. Like the BKL polish, the black flakes just added something extra to the polish that made it go from “Oh, that’s nice.” to “Ooh I like that!”.

My photos show Gap Junction in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats.

Ribbits Stickits

Waterslide Decals $8

For the waterslide decals, I added white acrylic paint to the backs of the decals to make them pop more over my base colors!

Acetone Additive in Endless, looped time $4.50

Scent Description: with top notes of almond, Bergamot. Middle notes of Coconut, Shea, Amber, Honey, and Coriander. Base notes of Cedar, Sandalwood, Light Musk, Tonka Bean, Wood, Tobacco, Oud

While I have been loving using this brand’s acetone additive, I did not like this month’s scent. The scent reminded me of men’s cologne and it was just too masculine for my fruity and sweet fragrance loving self. The base notes are very earthy and that is not my thing.

Vinyl $4

This month’s vinyl was a bit more tricky to apply but I was able to get it on and it fits nicely on the front of my helmer.

Final Thoughts

Like I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I love the Marvel movies. I really appreciated that the colors of the polishes paired well with the names of the polishes. I feel like that makes having the theme even more fun for me.

I won’t be picking a favorite since I don’t like doing that for boxes that you have to purchase everything in but I do really love the theme!
