China Glaze Jurassic World

Hey friends! Today I have a really fun collection by China Glaze to share. This collection is inspired by the movie/series Jurassic World. I actually picked this collection up before I got the Dippin Dots collection but that collection actually called to me more than this one so I swatched that first.

China Glaze is a US based mainstream brand. Their polishes are in 14ml bottles, 7 free and cruelty free.

Let Em Roar!

Description: brazen auburn gold shimmer 

Let Em Roar! had a great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. I found the base color to be somewhere between a brick red and a berry-red. Honestly, it is still hard for me to pin down what type of red exactly I think it is.

The shimmer in here was really beautiful. It does show some brush strokes but not so much that it distracts from the polish, in my opinion.

My photos show Let ‘Em Roar! in 2-3 coats. All of my nails except for my pointer finger were good in 2. I think it will likely end up being a 2-3 coater as when I did my live swatch, I needed a third coat to reach full opacity.

Olive To Roar

Description: a grainy textured matte olive green

Olive To Roar had a good formula. It was *extremely* humid the day I was swatching this polish and I found the humidity made it very difficult to apply as well as making dry time long. I didn’t have any issues doing my live swatch (on a different day with the AC running) so I attribute all of my issues with this polish to the humidity.

This polish ran down the stem of the brush quite a bit so it is easy to end up doing thick coat. The textured in this polish kinda makes this look like a pickle. Honestly, I think this one is pretty ugly BUT I like that it is different.

My photos show Olive To Roar in 2 coats without top coat. If you want to make this one smooth, you will likely need to use at least 2 coats of top coat. Removal won’t be terribly difficult and I soaked it off with no issues.

Orange You Fierce

Description:  fiery orange flame shimmer

Orange You Fierce had a great formula. It seemed like it was a bit thinner and sheerer than some of the other polishes in the release. It ran down the stem of the brush *a lot* so now my sweatpants have new orange shimmer stains.

This was a surprise favorite for me. I didn’t think it was going to be half as beautiful in person as it turned out to be. The shimmer is a larger particle size so you won’t see any brush strokes.

My photos show Orange You Fierce in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. It is a more sheer polish so I did have VNL with it. I think if you go in for thick coats or even a 4th coat, you could get this completely opaque. With thin-ish coats, I had like 80-90% opacity.

Preserved In Amber

Description: speckled golden amber 

Preserved In Amber had a wonderful formula. The flakes in here behave more like glitter shreds than the flakies I am used to. They all spread out pretty well but do give off quite a bit of texture. I had a few nails that the flakes/shreds poked right through 2 coats of top coat.

Even with the pokey bits, I loved this polish. When I bought this collection, this was the polish I was most excited about it. And for good reason. It looks really beautiful in person. I really liked how it looked in 2 coats but I added a third to make it completely opaque.

My photos show Preserved in Amber in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I did pair this one with a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my quick dry top coat. My nails weren’t completely smooth, but they were passable for me.

Removal will be on the more difficult side due to those flakes/shreds. I used a peel off base coat.

Raptor Round Your Finger

Description: multi dino-mensional green nail color with blue chrome flakes

Raptor Round Your Finger had a really good formula. Like Preserved In Amber, the flakes in here behave more like glitter shreds than smooth/flat flakies. They do dry textured and some of the poke up off of the nail.

I did notice during my live swatch that the shreds/flakies do seem to sink in the bottle so giving this one a good shake will get out more of the flakes/shreds.

This was the other polish I was most excited for. The reviews I saw, people seemed to really dislike it but I am digging it!

My photos show Raptor Round Your Finger in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I see this likely being a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. I also paired this polish with a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my quick dry top coat.

Removal will be on the more difficult side if you try to scrub it off.

Sandy Scales

Description: mauve nude matte

Sandy Scales had a great formula. I usually find mattes by this brand leave something to be desired but this one was honestly really good.

The base color is not something that I find appealing (without glitter being involved) so I don’t see myself ever really reaching for this polish.

T-Rex Appeal

Description: sky gray crème

T-Rex Appeal had a good formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. I found the polish did run down the stem of the brush a bit so I had to remember to fully wipe the stem of the brush before applying.

I found the polish was a very light blue with grey tones to it. This is another color that doesn’t really do anything for me.

You Should Know Beta!

Description: a textured ultramarine glitter

You Should Know Beta! also had a great formula. I thought the base would feel a lot thicker with this being a glitter but it didn’t feel thick to me at all. It does go on very streaky on the first coat but the streaks do even out with the second coat.

When I swatched this polish I didn’t know it was supposed to be a textured polish. I thought it was just textured due to the glitters. I think if I let it dry down a bit more it would have felt more textured to me in person.

My photos show You Should Know Beta! in 2 coats with 2 coats of top coat. I did pair this one with a glitter smoothing top coat. I found the top coat made the shimmer in this polish come alive. However, it still looks textured on the nail even though 2 coats of top coat did smooth it out.

Removal will be on the more difficult side if you try to scrub this polish off. I used a peel off base coat.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really loved this collection. China Glaze always makes me happy when they have collections that are a bit out of the norm. I LOVED that they had such a wide variety of finishes.

I know this is a polarizing collection due to the textured polishes and the glitter shreds but I thought it was great.

My top picks are Preserved In Amber, Orange You Fierce, and Raptor Around Your Finger.
