China Glaze x Dippin Dots (Summer 2022)

[Purchased, affiliate links used – Post Disclosure Page]

Hey nail friends! Today’s blog post is for a new release from China Glaze. I am kind of in shock that I have been running this blog for 2 years now and this is the first dedicated post I have just for China Glaze. China Glaze is one of my favorite mainstream brands and despite my buying multiple collections to review, this is the first one that is actually gets posted. Whoops!

So as far as I know, this collection hasn’t officially been released/acknowledged by China Glaze. I found it on eBay of all places. I think it is now starting to pop up on places where China Glaze is sold so some hunting might be in order.

Anyway, that was my long way of saying I am excited about this collection, and let’s just get into the swatches!

Live Swatch Video

China Glaze is a US based mainstream brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 7 free and cruelty free.

Strawberry Chillin

Description: a neon pink shimmer

Strawberry Chillin had a fantastic formula. It was slightly on the thicker side of normal but what I prefer for polishes like this. The thickness adds to opacity and applies very nicely.

The shimmer effect in this polish is a larger particle size. I couldn’t decide if I thought it was a fleck or a really small flakie. The base color is a BRIGHT neon pink! This is the shade of pink I think of when I think summer collection pink.

My photos show Strawberry Chillin in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Nothing in here will be difficult to remove and I didn’t experience any staining. I will note that the shimmer makes for a very messy removal.

Lemon Ice

Description: a neon yellow with shimmer

Lemon Ice really good formula. It was slightly on the thicker side but it applied it very evenly and easily. The shimmer appeared to be the same as the shimmer in the other polishes in this release. It gives a nice glow effect in this base.

The color of this one is that extremely neon yellow that has a greenish tint to it. Think yellow highlighter. I think this polish is going to be a 2-3 coater depending on application and personal preference. I had nails that were good in 2 coats and others that needed a third.

My photos show Lemon Ice in 3 coats plus top coat. Nothing in here will be difficult to remove and like the previous polish, the shimmer makes for a messy removal. If you are a messy polisher, you will be coated in sparkle during cleanup.

Frosty Lime

Description: a neon green with shimmer

Frosty Lime had an good formula, not my favorite but it wasn’t bad. It was a lot sheerer as well as a bit thinner than the previous 2 polishes. It applied pretty well on the nail but had a tendency to run down the stem of the brush.

The base color on this polish is a neon lime green shade. The shimmer effect was also the same as the other polishes in this release.

My photos show Frosty Lime in 3 coats plus top coat. I think this will likely be a solid 3 coater, even with thicker coats it just didn’t reach full opacity in 2 coats. If you go in for *very* thin coats, I could see this one looking a little patchy.

Blue Raspberry Ice

Description: a bright medium blue creme

Blue Raspberry Ice had a fantastic formula. It applied really buttery smooth and I didn’t have any application issues. This polish didn’t have the shimmer as the other neons in the release.

I found the base color was a vibrant medium blue. It wasn’t quite a neon blue but it was close. I had a real sense of dejavu while I was swatching this polish. I felt like it was very similar to several blue cremes that I have swatched the past few months.

My photos show Blue Raspberry Ice in 2 coats plus top coat. I thought for sure this was going to stain me but I didn’t experience any staining.

Rainbow Ice

Description: a clear base with a mix of rainbow glitter

Rainbow Ice had a pretty good formula. I found the base was on the thinner side but I didn’t experience any application issues. Although I will say it was incredibly humid the day I was swatching this so I got a TON of bubbles in my swatch.

The glitters spread out pretty easily but I found myself pushing them around a bit to try to get them evenly dispersed on the nail. I didn’t need to hold the bottle upside down or do any fishing to get the various sizes out.

My photos show Rainbow Ice in 3 coats plus glossy top coat as well as in 1 coat over Blue Raspberry Ice. The glitters do not dry down overly textured so you should be good with 1 thick coat of glossy top coat.

Artic Confetti

Description: a white crelly with neon glitter

Artic Confetti had a really good formula. The white base was (unsurprisingly) a bit streaky so you will want to build this one up for opacity. I found this polish had a TON of glitter in it but it didn’t feel overly thick at all.

The glitters all spread out very evenly and easily without needing to do any fishing or holding the bottle upside down. If you aren’t used to applying glitter polishes this might feel a little chunky? The glitters do dry down pretty textured.

My photos show Arctic Confetti in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I think this could potentially be passable in 2 coats if you aren’t overly picky about light spots or have short nails. I did use a glitter smoothing top coat before my quick dry top coat due to the amount of glitter.

Removal will be very difficult if you for some reason decided to scrub this polish off. I used a peel off base coat.

Final Thoughts

So when I first caught wind of this collection, I was SO ridiculously excited! I had a hard time finding where it was sold so I ended up buying it on eBay from someone.

Now that I have swatched everything, I do feel a little disappointed since I had hyped them up so much in my mind. Don’t get me wrong, all of the polishes were beautiful but I think I just overhyped them to myself.

My only real complaint is that the glitter mix in Arctic Confetti isn’t the same glitter mix as in Rainbow Ice, which is what I thought when I purchased the collection. Which I fully recognize is on me and not anyone else. The glitter mix is more like the glitter in the China Glaze polish Point Me To The Party.

My top pick from this release is obviously going to be Arctic Confetti.

Comparisons

It’s A Trap-eze was the only white based glitter crelly I could think of that I owned by this brand. Unfortunately, the glitters in it bleed badly, so my base no longer looks white. The glitters between the two are different.

Next up I wanted to compare some of the other recent bright blue cremes that I have swatched. I picked Orly’s Rinse & Repeat (Summer 2022) and Holo Taco’s Bored Meet (Work/Life Balance Cremes). No dupes but they are very similar.

Sale Information

The Dippin’ Dots collection is starting to pop up at places China Glaze is sold. I heard that it is available in store at Ulta locations and some of the polishes on are Ulta’s website. Each polish seems to retail at $7.50 for a 15ml bottle.

I personally purchased these from eBay (from this seller) and I think they’re legit? Buy at your own risk. PolishPick just started taking orders for the collection so I am assuming BeyondPolish and Head2Toe Beauty will be starting soon as well.
