Hey friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest collection by Bee’s Knees Lacquer. This 8 piece collection is inspired by the tv show What We Do In The Shadows and is a continuation of last year’s What We Do In The Shadows collection.
I also have 5 mystery polishes to share as well as a few comparisons! Like last month’s collection, I will hide the mystery polishes all the way at the end of the blog post after the sale information.

Bee’s Knees Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free, cruelty free and vegan friendly.
5 Spits For An Enemy
Description: a black to blue to purple multichrome with red to green UP. At first glance you can easily see the red UP over the blue base making the polish appear purple, before the polish shifts to purple as the UP shifts green.

5 Spits For An Enemy had a really nice formula. It does start off very sheer but it builds up really nicely. I found OG UP shimmer really poped from the base. I was mainly seeing the red to gold color shift, the green came in at more extreme angles.
The multichrome base was exactly as described. Because this was on the more sheer side, this polish could also be used as a topper.

He’s Left His Mark On My Heart
Description: an icy blue magnetic polish full of red to green UP
Price: $16 | Cap: 400
He’s Left His Mark On My Heart had a great formula. The magnetic effect was very strong and magnetized very easily for me. I used a ring magnet for my swatch photos and a bar magnet for my live swatch video. Without the magnetic effect, this looks like an icy blue metallic polish. When magnetized, you will see the OG UP shimmer.
I was really surprised at just how different thing polish looks magnetized vs unmagnetized! Like it looks like a completely different polish
My photos show He’s Left His Mark On My Heart in 3 coats plus top coat. My ring finger is unmagnetized. This polish will be opaque in 2-3 coats depending on application and nail length.
Our Familiar
Description: a rainbow in a bottle with a black cherry base and a shimmer that shifts from copper to green to blue to purple
Price: $13.50
Our Familiar had a really great formula. This was one of the more opaque polishes in the release. The shimmer was VERY strong and color shifty. I didn’t see any brush strokes through it. Like the description says, this is a very color shifty polish and it will look like a rainbow on the nail.
While I was swatching this polish, I SWORE that I had previously swatched something very similar by this brand. I went through my photos and the most similar polish that I found was called Curse You. I’ll have a side by side comparisons after swatches but they’re not dupes.
My photos show Our Familiar in 3 coats plus top coat. I think it will be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length.
Twilight Style
Description: a smoky periwinkle base with glittery gold to green shimmer and black to blue to purple multichrome flakes
Price: $13.50
Twilight Style also had a great formula. This polish starts off very sheer. The base color on this is sheer enough that I honestly thought it was in a clear base. The shimmer is VERY strong and to my eye, pretty much all of the opacity was coming from the shimmer and flakies.
The shimmer was exactly as described as were the flakies. I found the flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off any texture. Because the base is so sheer, this can also be used as a topper.
My photos show Twilight Style in 3 coats plus glossy and matte top coat. I also swatched it in 1 coat over Holo Taco’s Shady Navy.
The Vampiric Council
Description: a black to red multichrome with red to green UP. At first glance the polish appears as a rich burgundy with the red UP shining at the forefront over the black base, before shifting to brighter red as the UP shifts green

The Vampiric Council had a fantastic formula. It starts off a little sheer but builds up nicely. The OG UP shimmer plays really nicely with the black to red multichrome. I found in person, the UP shimmer mainly pulled the red to orange color shift with green twinkling in at extreme angles.
The multichrome base mainly stayed in the deep red, to a brighter red color range with orange at extreme angles.
My photos show The Vampiric Council in 3 coats plus top coat. I think this one could also be used as a topper.
This F*cking Guy
Description: a black to red multichrome with green to blue sibling UP. At first glance you can easily see the emerald green UP over the black base, before the polish shifts to red as the UP shifts blue.

This F*cking Guy had a fantastic formula. It started off fairly sheer so you will want to build it up for opacity. In person, it looked as described. The shimmer effect didn’t show any brush strokes.
Since this polish starts off pretty sheer, I would recommend wearing it in 3 coats or pairing it with an opaque base. It builds up for full opacity in 3 coats. I did have some *slight* VNL on the clear part of my nails.
Vampires Hate Waiting
Description: a black to blue to purple multichrome with green to blue sibling UP. At first glance you can see the green UP over the blue base, before the polish shifts to purple as the UP shifts blue

Vampires Hate Waiting had a similar formula to the previous multichromes. It applied really nicely albeit started off very sheer. The UP shimmer gives this an even stronger blue look on the nail. The green color shift was coming in at extreme angles. I found the multichrome base was as described.
My photos show Vampires Hate Waiting in 3 coats. I think this will be a solid 3 coater unless you pair it with a more opaque base.
Viva Atlantic City
Description: a black to blue to purple multichrome with ruby red light reflective glitter
Price: $13
Viva Atlantic City had a fantastic formula. The multichrome base was as described. So I had tough time swatching this polish. I found in the bottle, I could see the red reflective glitters very easily. On the nail, however, I found the red reflective glitter to be a bit harder to see. I could see the red sparkles (like in my photos) mixed in with silver. It was VERY sparkly in pretty much every type of lighting.
But the strong red reflective glitter like in the bottle eluded me. I pulled out my phone to see how it looked using the flashlight and just wow. Basically, I found that the red reflects look crazy when I am looking at this using my phone’s camera. Don’t get me wrong, it looks amazing in general but how it looks in phone photos is bonkers.
All that said, I have been playing around with polishes like this a lot lately. I have found that on a very sunny day, if you angle your nails *just* right, you will see something similar to the above photo. But in 99% of lighting situations, the polish will look more like my other swatch photos.
My photos show Viva Atlantic City in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. The reflective glitters give this polish quite a bit of texture so I would recommend pairing it with either 2 coats of top coat OR using a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with your normal quick dry top coat.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I really liked this collection. I recently started watching What We Do In The Shadows on Hulu so I really like that I am finally getting the references in the polish names.
I was really unsure on how unicorn pee shimmer + multichromes were going to look on the nail. So I was pleasantly surprised that I really liked how the two pigments go together. I honestly didn’t even know the two could be mixed together!
My top picks are Twilight Style, Our Familiar & He’s Left His Mark On My Heart. From the mysteries, The Ceremony of Judgment was my favorite.
Sale Information
The What We Do In The Shadows part 2 collection will be available on the Bee’s Knees Lacquer website starting on February 25th at 7PM Eastern time on pre-order. The pre-order window closes on February 28th at 11:59PM. The polishes with unicorn pee are capped at 400 bottles. There will be a listing up that has all of the polishes (minus the UP ones) at a discounted rate.
Bee’s Knees Lacquer does ship internationally as well as having a few international stockists. Girly Bits Cosmetics, Rainbow Connection and Hypnotic Polish will all have these polishes. I *think* Femme Fatale will have them also but I am not 100% sure.
Comparisons
Curse You was originally released in the Resident Evil Village collection.
I was asked how Our Familiar looks compared to Fine Make Me Your Villan (August 2021 PPU). The base colors are different and the shimmer seems smoother in appearance. They do seem to have a similar look on the nail though!

I used 3 coats for all of the mystery polishes. All of these have great formulas and I didn’t have any issues with them.
Safe Passage
Description: a silver to pink to green pastel multichrome with glowy pink to green multichrome flakes
Price: $13.50
Safe Passage this polish was exactly as described. It is on the more sheer side so you will have some VNL with it. It is sheer enough that I think it would be great as a topper. The flakies won’t be overly difficult to remove but they will stick to your skin a bit.
The Formerly Fanged
Description: deep crimson with large particle holo
Price: $13
The Formerly Fanged was also as described. The holographic was linear in style but not as smooth (in style, this isn’t textured) as some other linear holos that I have tried.
It will be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length. I used 3 coats for my photos.
The Formerly Fanged vs Bloody Mary. The shades of red are different on both of these and the holographic used is different as well. Bloody Mary was in the original What We Do In The Shadows release
Creepy Paper
Description: a rich royal purple with large particle holo
Price: $13
Creepy Paper same formula and application as The Formerly Fanged. It was just a hair sheerer so if you have a free edge to speak of, depending on the thickness of your coats you might have some VNL in direct lighting.
My photos show Creepy Paper in 3 coats plus top coat. This will also be a 2-3 coater depending on nail length.
The Ceremony of Judgment
Description: a soft blue with glowy pink to green shimmer. The blue sister to Haetae 2021 (may cause staining)
Price: $13
The Ceremony of Judgment had a really great formula. The shimmer was extremely strong and glowy. There were some minor brush strokes when wet but nearly all of them disappeared at the polish dries. In person, the shimmer had a pink, gold to green color shift.
My photos show The Ceremony of Judgment in 3 coats plus top coat. I did have some VNL with this one. The brand warns that this might cause staining but I didn’t experience any staining.
But This is a Turtle
Description: a silver to pink to green pastel multichrome full of gold reflective glitter
Price: $13
But This is a Turtle was also as described. It was on the sheer side so you will have some VNL with it. The reflective glitters were extremely sparkly and will give off quite a bit of texture.
My photos show But This is a Turtle in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. The polish dries a little flat/dull and textured so you will want top coat for a smooth glossy finish.
