Hey friends! Today I am sharing the newest collection from Bee’s Knees Lacquer. This collection is inspired by one of my favorite tv shows, What We Do In The Shadows. Fun fact, I started watching that show because of swatching the previous collections, and seriously I can’t recommend it enough!
So on top of this collection being inspired by a great show, all 14 polishes are inspired by the incredibly popular Bee’s Knees polish called A Lion With A Thorn In Its Paw. That polish was originally released during the March 2021 Polish Pickup and has been brought back twice now during rewind. Seriously, it’s amazing and one of my favorites too.
Since all 14 polishes in this release have the exact same formula, I formatted the blog post a little bit differently so that it wouldn’t be so repetitive to read.
All of the polishes in this release had fantastic formulas. With the exception of 3 having some bleeding issues, I didn’t have any problems with these. You will need top coat for a glossy finish and the holo flakies are very holographic. Those flakies do not dry textured and removal will be a bit messy but not difficult.
This collection will be available starting on October 28th and as always, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post.

A Total Harpy In My Ass
Description: a dirty lime green Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
A Total Harpy In My Ass was one of the sheerer polishes in this release. I think it will likely be a solid 3 coater if you have any type of free edge and want to cover up any VNL.
Colorwise, I think this one is ok. It’s not my favorite but I do love how the shimmer looks in the lime base
My photos show A Total Harpy In My Ass in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Darth Small
Description: a pinky cranberry Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes. $13.50
Darth Small was another sheer one that will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on how you feel about VNL. The third coat does deepen the base a smidge though but it’s passable in 2 coats.
I am not the biggest red polish person and this one didn’t lean pink enough to get me excited. But again, the shimmer looks amazing in the base.

Familia Es Familia
Description: a deep garnet Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
Familia Es Familia was one of the more opaque and pigmented polishes in the release. I didn’t have any problems with staining but I would highly suggest wearing base coat with this polish.
I was pleasantly surprised at liking this one. Despite garnet being my birthstone, I am not really a huge fan of the color. However, in typical Nicole fashion, shimmer + holo flakes is making me like a color that I normally wouldn’t.
My photos show Familia Es Familia in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I think this one is going to be a solid 2 coater.
Fantastic
Description: a dirty lemon Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
Fantastic was definitely right up my alley! I LOVE yellow polishes. In typical yellow polish fashion, this one is fairly sheer so you will want to build it up.
Like the other sheers, if you want to cover up VNL you’re going to want to go in for 3 coats.
My photos show Fantastic in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Guess What
Description: a pale blue Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
Guess What coverage for this polish was a bit sheerer so I do think unless you have very short nails it will likely be a 3 coater. I found coverage was a little uneven in 2 coats.
Originally I thought the base color on this polish was a lot closer to the original Lion With A Thorn In Its Paw. Looking at my photos, they are not nearly as similar as I was remembering.

It Is My Punishment
Description: a blackened violet Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
It Is My Punishment this polish was pretty opaque. I did find that if I go in for one thick coat this one has fantastic coverage. If your nails are shorter than mine you could potentially get away with just one coat with one thicker coat.
The base color on this one is a super dark violet but not so dark that it will look black. One thing I will note is that I found this polish bleeds quite a bit once you add top coat. I found that once I added top coat, the shimmer didn’t seem nearly as strong and the silver holo flakies looked more purple.
My photos show It Is My Punishment in 2 coats plus top coat. This polish stained my nails so make sure to double up on base coat if your nails are prone to staining.
I Want To Peel You Like A Potato
Description: a deep teal Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
I Want To Peel You Like A Potato started off sheerer than I expected. I thought because the base is darker that it would be pretty opaque but I am putting it in the 2-3 coater but likely a solid 3 coater category.
Out of all of the polishes, this one has my favorite quote from the show. This line is from season 4 and the full quote goes as follows “I want to peel you like a potato and mash up your insides”. The show is so delightfully weird.
My photos show I Want To Peel You Like A Potato in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
My Sweet Cheese
Description: a rich cobalt Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50 *may stain*
My Sweet Cheese was one of the more opaque polishes, a definite stainer and also bleeds with top coat.
All that said, I will go on record and say that the staining was worth it with this polish. I really really *really* liked the base color of this polish. I was a little disappointed that top coat dulled the shimmer a bit but it still looked pretty.
My photos show My Sweet Cheese in 2 coats plus top coat.
Rumpeld*ckskin
Description: a burnt orange Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
Rumpeld*ckskin I freaking LOVE this pumpkin-y orange shade! The shimmer looks absolutely gorgeous in this base.
I do think this one will also be a 2-3 coater depending on your preference and nail length. The third coat did seem to deepen the base color just a hair but coverage was passable in 2 coats.
My photos show Rumpeld*ckskin in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Sunrise, Sunset
Description: a black Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes. This one is a larger particle and has a finish that looks more like microflakes
Price: $13.50
Sunrise, Sunset so the shimmer in this polish was a little different from all of the previous polishes and I really liked it a lot. I kinda wish more of the polishes in this release had the larger particle shimmer just to switch things up a bit.
As someone who generally doesn’t love black based polishes, I thought the shimmer + flakie combo in here was really beautiful. This was one f the more opaque polishes so I think it will be a solid 2 coater.
My photos show Sunrise, Sunset in 2 coats plus glossy top coat.
That Awkward Age
Description: a charcoal gray Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
This one is a larger particle and has a finish that looks more like microflakes
Price: $13.50
That Awkward Age colorwise I thought I was going to like this one more. I love grey polishes but this one wasn’t a standout for me which was surprising.
This one will also be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preferences.
My photos show That Awkward Age in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
What Have The Dark Lord Wrought
Description: a deep olive Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
What Have The Dark Lord Wrought when I opened up my PR package, I knew IMMEDIATELY that this was going to be one of my favorites. The prugly green base paired perfectly with the shimmer and holo flakes.
I’m particularly happy that I was able to time swatching this one when there was sunshine because that did not disappoint!
My photos show What Have The Dark Lord Wrought in 2 coats plus glossy top coat.
You Can Bury Your Own Nuts
Description: a violet Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
You Can Bury Your Own Nuts similar to the other violet based polishes in this release, I found this one was a stainer and bleeds with top coat.
The shimmer doesn’t seem to get as muted with top coat as My Sweet Cheese did but it does seem a little bit less strong. Also the shimmer looks very pink for some reason? Coverage was pretty good in 2 coats but to cover up VNL, it will be a 3 coater.
My photos show You Can Bury Your Own Nuts in 3 coats plus glossy top coat
You’re Such A Little Bean Freak
Description: a purple toned gray Lion sibling with red to green shimmer and a ton of holo flakes
Price: $13.50
You’re Such A Little Bean Freak was probably my least favorite out of this release. Colorwise, this one just wasn’t for me. I found it came across a lot more taupe than grey which isn’t my personal color preference.
Coverage was pretty good in 2 coats but I do think it will be a 3 coater for longer nails. My photos show You’re Such A Little Bean Freak in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Final Thoughts
I was super excited to see that this brand was doing an entire collection inspired by A Lion With A Thorn In Its Paw!That was one of my favorite polishes last year and I have been loving all of the sibling polishes. We finally have that full rainbow that I was hoping for.
I was also really pumped that it was a collection inspired by What We Do In The Shadows. I started watching that show because of the previous collections and I have to say it has become one of my favorite shows. It is HILARIOUS!
My only complaint, which I didn’t have until I was typing up this blog post and doing my video voiceovers, is that I forgot how much I dislike large collections where every single polish is the same formula just in different colors. It makes coming up with things to say about the release difficult for me because it feels super repetitive and a little mind numbing. Obviously, this is a non-issue but it bugged me nonetheless hence the different format to this blog post.
My favorite polishes from this release are going to be What Have The Dark Lord Wrought, Fantastic and I Want To Peel You Like A Potato.
