Bee’s Knees Lacquer Saga

[Sponsored – Post Disclosure Page]

Hey nail friends! I have another blog post to share today and this one is for the newest collection by Bee’s Knees Lacquer. For June the folks as BKL were inspired by the comic Saga.

On top of a beautiful collection, Bee’s Knees is also launching new mystery bags, a Monthly Monster Mystery polish, AND 2 polishes that will be exclusive to the Rainbow Connection stockist page. I opted to give each release their own blog post this month so I will have everything linked at the end of this post.

All of those products launch later today on the Bee’s Knees Lacquer website. As always, links and sale details can be found after my review. Like previous month’s all the way at the end of this blog post I will have some mystery polish spoilers.

Live Swatch Video

Bee’s Knees Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free, cruelty free and vegan friendly.

A Night Time Smoke

Description: a violet polish with gold to green UP (which looks copper from the violet base) with a rainbow of light reflective glitter
Price: $16 | Cap: 400

A Night Time Smoke had a great formula. It was on the thicker side of normal but not at all difficult ot work with. I didn’t find the thicker formula to cause the polish to make my nails look bulky or to apply gloopy.

I found the UP shimmer was really gorgeous in the base. I don’t feel like it picked up well in photos but I could see it easily in person. It had a reddish/copper to gold to green color shift.

My photos show A Night Time Smoke in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I found to get the same color on the nail that you see in the bottle, you will want to go in for 3 coats.

NOTE: I didn’t notice until I was editing my video that the coloring on this polish came out *a lot* more blue toned than it was showing in person. In person, it is violet with blue undertones and not this navy blue that my photos show. The coloring in my video is more true to life than my photos.

…And Then…

Description: the sister to Amazing Opportunities, this is a large particle cyan to blue to purple to red multichrome with black light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

…And Then… had a fantastic formula. The reflective glitters did make it on the thicker side and a little textured but I didn’t have any issues with application. The multichrome was as described.

I found for the reflective glitters, they were very sparkly and reflective. I wasn’t really seeing black reflects in person. I could see small black glitter but my eyes were only picking up silver reflects.

I swatched …And Then… in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. In hindsight, I should have swatched it in 3 coats as I did have some VNL on the clear part of my nail. The reflective glitters do give the polish a textured finish so either doubling up on top coat or using a glitter smoothing top coat before you quick dry top coat will give you the smoothest finish possible. Removal will be messy/difficult if you try to scrub this off.

Amazing Opportunities for New Possibilities

Description: a large particle cyan to blue to purple to red multichrome. You may notice some orange shift at the extremes.
Price: $13

Amazing Opportunities for New Possibilities had a beautiful formula. I really love these large particle multichromes! In person, I was seeing the shifts as described as well as the orange color shift as extreme angles.

The polish starts off a little sheer but it does build up really nicely. I think this would likely be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length and personal preference.

My photos show Amazing Opportunities for New Possibilities in 3 coats plus top coat. Nothing in here will be difficult to remove and I didn’t experience any staining.

But Not TOO Good

Description: a bubblegum pink with gold to green to blue shimmer
Price: $13

But Not TOO Good had a wonderful formula. It is on the sheer side so you will want to build it up for opacity. I think everyone and their mama knows that I am a huge sucker for a pink base with golden shimmer so I loved this polish! The shimmer effect was as described and I didn’t see any brush strokes through it.

Since this one is on the sheer side, I did have some VNL with it. The shimmer was so strong and glowly that I think nail line will be easy to ignore but if you look for it, you will see it.

My photos show But Not TOO Good in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I think this one has the potential to be an interesting topper.

Ghus Will Chop You Deep

Description: a burnt orange with green to blue sibling UP and ruby light reflective glitter
Price: $16 | Cap: 400

Ghus Will Chop You Deep had a great formula. Since this is a glitter reflective polish, it was on the thicker side of normal. I didn’t have any application issues.

The UP shimmer looks gorgeous paired with this base color. I found the glitters made the orange base seem even more burnt orangey. This polish screams Autumn to me.

My photos show Ghus Will Chop You Deep in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I did pair this one with a glitter smoothing top coat (KBShimmer Smooth Moves) before going in with my quick dry top coat. I think this will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on your own personal preference. The third coat deepens the base and adds opacity.

 High as F*ck

Description: a red plum base with green to blue sibling UP and gold light reflective glitter
Price: $16 | Cap: 400

High as F*ck had a really good formula. It was on the thicker side of normal but I found it easy to apply. The base color on this was really interesting to photograph. I found indoors, it looked very red/plum but in natural light, the red tones came out a lot more.

The unicorn pee shimmer was very strong and I found stood out best with top coat. The reflective glitters were very sparkly and also give the polish significant texture. I could see the gold reflects in person.

My photos show High As F*ck in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I found to get the base color you see in the bottle, you will want to use 3 coats but it’s passable in 2 coats.

Removal will be on the more messy/difficult side due to the glitters.

Lying

Description: a minty green polish with gold to green to blue shimmer
Price: $13

Lying had a really good formula. The base on this didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. I found this applied very nicely and self leveled well. Depending on the thickness of your coats, this can apply a little patchy on the first coat.

The shimmer in here was on the more subtle side than the more in your face shimmers the brand is known for but it was very easy to see in person. This polish is also more opaque than those shimmers, it was almost opaque on me in 2 coats.

My photos show Lying in 3 coats plus top coat. It will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length and personal preference. You will want top coat for a glossy and to bring out that shimmer.

My Heart Is In The Engine Room

Description: a deep raspberry with large particle pink to gold to green to blue shimmer
Price: $13

My Heart Is In The Engine Room had a fantastic formula. This polish has a jelly-like base so you will want to build it up for the most opacity.

The shimmer was very strong and glowy. Due the to the partizle size, you won’t see any brush strokes through it. In person, I was seeing the shimmer as described.

My photos show My Heart Is In The Engine Room in 3 coats plus top coat. Nothing in here will dry textured or be difficult to remove. I didn’t experience any staining.

Not Everybody Does

Description: a grape purple with gold to green sibling UP (which looks copper from the purple base) and emerald light reflective glitter
Price: $16 | Cap: 400

Not Everybody Does had a great formula. Like most reflective glitter polishes, it was on the thicker side of normal but still very easy to apply. The UP shimmer in here to my eye looks like it has a red/gold/green color shift. In the red, it looks very copper.

I am a sucker for a purple base with shimmer, especially unicorn pee shimmer so I liked the colors on this polish. The reflective glitter was very sparkly and I could see twinkles of a greenish blue in the sun. I lost a nail peely when I was walking outside to get my daylight shot *sigh*

My photos show Not Everybody Does in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. This will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference and nail length.

Since there are 2 purples in this collection, this polish is a warm grapey purple and A Night Time Smoke is a violet purple.

This Is How An Idea Becomes Real

Description: a large particle green to black to red multichrome
Price: $13

This Is How An Idea Becomes Real also had a good formula. The multichrome to my eye was a teal/blue,purple,pink with orange at extreme angles.

During editing, I kept getting this polish confused with Amazing Opportunities for New Possibilities. This often happens to me when I have multiple multichromes. Side by side, they are not at all similar.

I used 2 coats for my photos. I think I should have done a third coat to better cover the clear part of my nail.

Tooty Stinkfoot

Description: a bright olive green with red to green UP and melon light reflective glitter
Price: $16 | Cap: 400

Tooty Stinkfoot had a fantastic formula. Like the other reflective glitter polishes in this release, the base was on the thicker side of normal but I found it applied very easily. Those glitters do give the polish significant texture.

The UP shimmer in here was on the more subtle side. It was visible but it wasn’t a BAM in your face type of shimmer. I really liked how it played with the green base color and the reflective glitters.

I would have called the base color on this polish a more pea soup type of green than what I tend to think of when I think olive green.

My photos show Tooty Stinkfoot in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. This will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. Removal will be on the more difficult side if you try to scrub this polish off.

You Self-Righteous Piece of BALD

Description: a cobalt blue with green to blue sibling UP and ruby light reflective glitter
Price: $16 | Cap: 400

You Self-Righteous Piece of BALD had a great formula. The base was slightly on the thicker side but I found it applied very easily.

The reflective glitters were very sparkly and I could see both the red and silver reflects in natural lighting.

In 2 coats, I found that the base color wasn’t quite as dark as it is in the bottle. Coverage was still pretty good so I think this will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference.

My photos show You Self-Righteous Piece of BALD in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be on the more difficult side if you try to scrub this one off.

Final Thoughts

Overall I liked this collection. The color story was a little all over the place but I kinda liked it that way. I wish I had been able to get natural light shots for more of the polishes but the weather was not on my side.

My top picks are My Heart Is In The Engine Room, But Not TOO Good, Tooty Stinkfoot, and Amazing Opportunities for New Possibilities.
