Hey everyone! Today’s blog post is for the newest release by Bee’s Knees Lacquer! This collection is inspired by the novel A Court Of Silver Flames. This is a 8 piece collection that is available now on the Bee’s Knees website as well as their international stockists. As always, links will be at the end of this post.
For the more sheer polishes in this release, I included a swatch on my thumb using a blurring base coat. I used Soft Focus by Polished For Days in neutral for those photos.
Bee’s Knees Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade, 5+ free, vegan and cruelty free.

Keep Reaching Out Your Hand
Description: a pale gray polish with glowy red shimmer and holo flakes
Price: $12
Keep Reaching Out Your Hand had a wonderful formula. It felt somewhere between a jelly and a crelly polish. The red shimmer and holo flakies pair so well together in this base! The shimmer doesn’t show brush strokes and the holographic element in this is very strong.
This will be a 2-3 coater depending on nail length and potentially polishing style. I used 3 coats for my photos. You will have to search for VNL with this polish.
Kelpie
Description: chartreuse green with glowy red to purple iridescent flakes.
Price: $12.50
Kelpie has a wonderful jelly formula. The base is pretty sheer so you will want to build it up. I found the flakies were very fiery looking and the purple color shift was more so at extreme angles.
I used 3 thick coats for my photos. Visible nail line will be very obvious with this polish. With the blurring base coat for my thumbnail swatch, I found the opaque base gave this an almost mustard color look on the nail. Personally, I like this one without the blurring base.
Like Calls To Like
Description: a bright turquoise with glowy green to blue iridescent flakes.
Price: $12
Like Calls To Like has a sheer jelly like formula. The flakies spread out nicely and pair really well with the base.
I went in for thicker than normal coats to get it more opaque. If you go in for thin coats, this will be a sheer wash of color on the nail. I do wish it was a touch more opaque but it is still a pretty polish. It also seems to dry slight more sheer than it applies. This one is the sheerest of the 3 flakie jellies.
Made
Description: a periwinkle with glowy orange to gold iridescent flakes
Price: $12.50
Made has the exact same formula and application to the 2 previous flakie polishes. It’s a sheer jelly with a stunning amount of flakies. I love the color of these flakies paired with this base color. The base is a *slightly* dusty periwinkle shade.
Out of the 3 jelly flakies, this is the most opaque. You will have VNL with this polish. I prefer this one without the blurring base coat. I used 3 thick coats for my photos.
The Crown
Description: the burgundy sister to the Mask and the Harp, this shifts antique gold to green to blue with hints of purple at the extremes.
Price: $13
The Crown has a wonderful jelly formula. I found the burgundy base is more brick red it doesn’t seem to have any purple undertones that I usually think of with burgundy. Like it’s sisters, the shimmer is very color shifty! The colors I was seeing all of the described colors on the nail.
This has great coverage in 2 coats. It was just slightly sheer so I used 3 coats for full opacity. No issues with staining.
The Harp
Description: a rich mid-toned blue with shimmer that shifts from white gold to gold to emerald to bright blue
Price: $13
The Harp had a wonderful formula. I would say it was somewhere between a jelly and a crelly. The blue base in this is drool worthy and it plays really nicely with the shimmer. I was seeing all of the described colors in person.
This had great coverage in 2 coats. I think I had some very slightly transparency with this polish so I went in for 3 coats. I think this will be a 2-3 coater depending on thickness of coats. I didn’t have any staining with this polish.
The Mask
Description: a deep cool-toned violet with a subtle gold shimmer that abruptly shifts sapphire and glowing emerald.
Price: $13
The Mask had a great formula. It was very opaque in comparison to some of the other polish in this release. In person, I was mainly seeing blue, green with gold at extreme angles.
This had great coverage in 2 coats. I think shorter nails would be good in 2. I used 3 coats for my photos. I found the third coat did deepen the base color. No issues with staining.
Valkyries
Description: a light aqua with orange to green shimmer.
Price: $12
Valkyries had a great formula. It looks exactly like the description on the nail. The shimmer is very shifty and is not brush strokey. It’s slightly on the sheer side so there will be some VNL after 3 coats. With the blurring base coat, it has a more green look on the nail.
Final Thoughts
I thought this was a fantastic release. I do with a few of the polishes were just a smidge more opaque but I did enjoy the release as a whole. I preferred these without the blurring base coat. To be honest, I didn’t love how that base coat changed the colors of the base in the polishes I used with it. My personal favorites were Keep Reaching Out Your Hand, The Mask and The Crown with Valkries getting a special mention.
