[Press Samples – Post Disclosure Page]
Hey nail friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest release from BCB Lacquers. This is the first time I have a collection by this brand to share so I’m pretty excited about this one! So I totally spaced and meant to get this post up over the weekend but life happened. Things are extra hectic in the Danielson house at the moment so forgive me for a few late posts this week.
This collection is inspired by the movie Caroline and all of the polishes are flakie filled thermals. The Caroline collection is available right now on the BCB Lacquers website. As always, full sale details will be at the end of the post.
Live Swatch
BCB Lacquers is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are 5 free, cruelty free and vegan.
The Door
Description: A thermal changing from purple(cold) to blue(warm) with green/pink/orange/gold/purple/blue shifting iridescent flakes and holo
The Door had a fantastic formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I had zero application issues. My hands were pretty much ice cold when I started swatching this one so I needed to use my hairdryer to get it to start changing to the warm state on me. The flakies all spread out evenly and easily on their own. This is also very holographic!
I found the cold state to be a medium purple that leans a little periwinkle and the warm state a medium blue. Because of the colors that this turns to, depending on how warm or cold your hand is, you will see a range of shades between purple, periwinkle, and blue.
I used 3 coats for my photos. Depending on the thickness of coats, you might have some VNL with this polish. In person, I had a hint of nail line.
Note: Feel free to ignore the ding I got when my camera fell on my nail mid-swatch!
The Stone
Description: A thermal changing from green(cold) to teal (warm) with green/blue/pink/purple shifting iridescent flakes and holo
The Stone also had a wonderful formula. I didn’t have any application issues. I found the thermal aspect in this to be very reactive. The difference in the colors between the cold state and the warm state is slightly on the subtle side, similar to an ombre.
I found the warm state is a very pale green and the cold state is a darker light green. If you are nervous about thermals dying, this would be a good one as both states are green and the color difference between the two states is more subtle.
I found to get the most depth of color, this will be a 3 coater. It’s passable in 2 coats but I thought it looked best in 3. Nothing in here will dry textured or be overly difficult to remove.
The Other Mother
Description: A thermal changing from black(cold) to grey(warm) with purple/blue/green/pink/orange shifting iridescent flakes and holo
The Other Mother had a (surprise!) wonderful formula. Colorwise, this polish was the one I was most excited about color wise. Like the previous polishes, the flakies all spread out evenly and easily on their own without giving off any texture. I found it started changing on me right away.
I found the cold state was a very dark grey shade and the warm state was a light grey. Like the previous polish, this would also be a good thermal pick for someone who is leery about buying thermals. Since both states are in the same color family, when this no longer transitions, it will likely still be in the greyish family.
I swatched The Other Mother in 3 coats. Similar to the other polishes to bring out the flakies, you will want top coat for a glossy finish.
Final Thoughts
All of these polishes were fantastic. They all had the exact same formula so other than the base colors, they were performed exactly the same. The holographic element in all of them was pretty strong, even in my not so holo friendly lighting.
These would all look really amazing matte. My top pick from this release is going to be The Other Mother. I love grey polishes with flakies and that one just spoke to me.

Sale Information
The Coraline collection is available right now on the BCB Lacquers website. Each polish is priced at $13 USD or you can grab all 3 polishes for $36.
While you are on the website, I would also recommend checking out their Candy Corn collection. That collection has been on my ‘I need to buy that!!’ list all month.
A note on thermal/solar polishes…
I want to note that thermal and solar polishes do have a shelf life on how long they will change colors. Generally, they are guaranteed to change colors for at least 6 months (or more) depending on the brand. My oldest thermal that still transitions is from 2018. To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
