Today’s post is for the newest monthly duo by Sweet & Sour Lacquer! I am so incredibly excited to share these polishes with you all today! I LOVE chunky/fun glitters and Darlene (owner/maker) has been creating monthly duos with THE most fun shaped glitters lately.
The April duo will be available starting on April 1st at 9am Central on the Sweet & Sour website. As always, links will be at the end of this post.

April Showers
Description: a glitter topper filled with blue and light blue shreds, iridescent glitter, and white and pink umbrellas
Price: $10
April Showers had a great formula. It didn’t feel thick at all despite having so many glitters and shards. I found that the smaller glitters spread out evenly on their own. I did need to do some fishing for the umbrella glitters because I wanted multiple umbrellas on each nail. I found that by just dipping the brush in the bottle, sometimes I’d get multiple umbrellas and sometimes I wouldn’t get any.
As a topper this has great coverage in 1 coat. The umbrella glitters are surprisingly thin and will only give off texture if you have very curved nails. If you opt to do glitter placement with them, you should be able to move them around with the brush so that they lay mostly flat. The only nail that felt textured after top coat was my pinky nail.
In 3 coats, there will be VNL and it will feel more textured that it would as a topper. I used 1 coat of a glitter smoothing top coat prior to my glossy top coat.
Note: I did a mixture of glitter placement and natural placement for my swatches. I wanted to show what this looks like with minimal effort.
I also swatched this on my thumbnail that I keep a lot shorter than the other nails on this hand. I wanted to show that you do not need to have long nails to have fun with this polish! Also on my thumbnail, I only used 1 coat of the Swamp Gloss qdtc (gifted). I think if you need 1 or 2 coats of top coat are just going to depend on how your position the umbrellas.
Calm Before The Storm
Description: a pale blue crelly with blue shimmer
Price: $12
Calm Before The Storm had a wonderful formula as well. It was slightly on the thinner side but very easy to work with. I found the formula while not a finicky pastel, it was just a bit patchy but it does self level very nicely. In my swatch notes I called it a dusty/slightly greyed out baby blue. The shimmer is very delicate and I found that it did not want to pick up in photographs.
It’s passable in 2 coats if you aren’t picky but I had a few light spots. The third coat fixed those. I would recommend using a ridge filling/smoothing base coat with this polish to smooth out any possible imperfections on the nail.

Final Thoughts
If it wasn’t completely obvious, I LOVED these! While Calm Before The Storm isn’t the type of color I would normally reach for, I loved it with April Showers. When I was going to swatch the topper, I went through my collection trying to decide what color would look best with it. In the end, I decided to go with the the pastel blue and am really glad that I did. They go really fantastic together.
On a side note, if you are like me and love chunky/fun shaped glitters. Be sure to check out what this brand is doing for April’s Polish Pickup! The polish Darlene created has LEOPARD PRINT shaped glitters. My mind is blown and that’s the #1 polish on my wishlist for April. For things you can grab now, the February and March duos are still available. Both of those have fun shaped glitters as well.
