Psyche Minerals New Year’s Duo and Birthday Polish

Happy New Year! Today’s blog post features the New Year’s Duo and special birthday polish by the brand Psyche Minerals! These launched on New Year’s day so I am a little late on getting this up but I did have a great weekend with family and did a literal ton of baking. I love baking so I was in my happy place.

Psyche Minerals in a US based indie brand. They have been in business for 8 years with their pigment powders, eyeshadows, and lip glosses. The polish side of the business is new as of 2020. Their polishes are handmade, 5 free and while they don’t list themselves as cruelty free, they do not test on animals nor do they use suppliers who test on animals.

Disclaimer: I was sent these products as PR in exchange for photographs and an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight/LED bulbs and outdoors in natural light. I use the KB Shimmer Clearly On Top glossy top coat, Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber (for glitter polishes) and the Glisten & Glow Matte top coat for my photos.

Fireworks at Midnight

Description: a black based jelly with color shifting sparkles of primarily green to purple with a hint of blue at the extremes.

Fireworks at Midnight Had a great formula. It wasn’t too thick or too thin. It is was extremely color shifty! Just sitting at my desk I was seeing a dark purple, blue, and a teal leaning green. The primary color at my desk (direct lighting) seemed to be blue and purple. In my kitchen (indirect lighting), it seemed to be primarily green with purple and blue. I used 3 coats for my photos.

Note: I swatched this over black on my ring finger in 1 coat. I honestly couldn’t see much of difference with this polish in 1 coat over black versus 2 coats on it’s own. I only did 3 coats to see if it would look more color shifty.

Champagne Kisses

Description: a peachy pink creme with linear holo

Champagne Kisses also had a great formula. It applies evenly and easily. It had great coverage on the first coat but unless you went in for a *very* thick coat, I don’t think it would be a 1 coater. It is a solid 2 coater but if you have longer nails you might need a third coat. I had a few light spots towards the tips of my nails so I used 3 coats for my photos. This dries down surprisingly glossy with no texture.

Note: I’m finding that it’s looking more orange-y in my photos but it’s a peachy pink in person.

35 and Feeling Fine

Description: a teal jelly with aqua/green flakies and medium pink shimmer that magnetizes for a beautiful effect.

35 and Feeling Fine Had a great formula. It applied easily and smoothly on the nail. It is on the sheer side so you will have to build it up. The number of coats will depend on personal preference and nail length. I personally like the opacity on my nails in 4 coats but my photos show it in 3 coats. I did some some VNL in 3 coats.

This is a magnetic polish but I forgot that while I swatching and didn’t try to magnetize it until my final coat was already applied. Thus the magnetic effect didn’t really show in my photos. I tried adding a 4th coat to my ring fingernail and magnetizing that but the line dissipated after top coating. In person, I could see the pink shimmer but I don’t think it showed up well in photos.

Final Thoughts

These were all great! No formula or application issues on any of these. I do wish I remembered that 35 and Feeling Fine had a magnetic effect before I started taking my photos (I blame getting too in to Doom Patrol while swatching) because I would have liked to get better photos of the magnetic effect on that one. The shimmer was really pretty in person. If I was going to pick a favorite, it would be that one. Champagne Kisses gets an honorable mention because I just really like that color.
