Polished Gamers Box July 2021 | Board Games

Hey friends! Today I have a super fun post for the newest Polished Gamers Box! The theme for July is Board Games and I think it’s cool that we have a month where the games aren’t video games. This box will be available on the 15 on the Polished Gamers websites. As always, sale details and links will be at the end of the post.

The Polished Gamers Box aka PGB is a monthly collaboration between handmade indie brands. Each month has a different theme and themes are always related to video games. Items available range from nail polish to wax melts to stamping plates and even jewelry!

Adored Colors – Don’t You Dare Kicking It

Inspiration: Slovak board game – “Man Don’t Get Mad”
Description: a teal green base with a ton of holo mermaid microglitter, gold and magenta pink holo glitters.
Price: $11 Cap: 30

Don’t You Dare Kicking It had a great formula. It starts off on the more sheer side but builds up nicely. The larger magenta glitters are fairly sparse so you might need to fish for them depending on how many you get on your brush. I did a small amount of glitter placement to get them where I wanted.

I think this looks best in 3 coats but it will be passable in 2 on short nails. I also used 2 coats of top coat to completely smooth it out. That might not be necessary though.

I did have some very slight VNL on small angles. It was very minimal though.

BCB Lacquers Kicked Out Of Candyland

Inspiration: a dark and twisted Candyland.
Description: a black cherry red with red shimmer and ruby micro flakes.
Price: $13.00• Cap: 100

Kicked Out Of Candyland had a great formula. It was surprisingly opaque. This will be a 1 coater on pretty much everyone, This has an almost metallic (not chrome but like brushed metal?) look to it.

This will be opaque in 1-2 coats depending on thickness of coats. I used 2 coats for my photos. This does dry dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. Since this is so opaque, I would highly reccomend wearing base coat or doubling up if you are prone to staining. I didn’t experience any staining with this polish.

Color Spectrum Polish – POP! Goes Perfection

Inspiration: Perfection
Description: a red base with gold shimmer and navy blue to purple shifting UCC flakies
Price: $12 for 13ml Cap: 50

POP! Goes Perfection had a great formula. This applied easily and evenly and I didn’t have any application issues. It leaned pretty orange in my photos and live swatch for some reason. I’m guessing due to the shimmer? This is a true red in person.

Nothing in here dried textured or will be difficult to remove. I didn’t have any issues with staining.

Geekish Glitter Lacquer – Sagrada

Inspiration: The stained glass themed game Sagrada.
Description:  A silver holographic base with a primarily pink shimmer and purple-green-blue UCC flakies.
Price: $12 for 15ml Cap: 75

Sagrada had a great formula. It was surprisingly opaque on the first coat! This is very holographic and the shimmer plus flakies are a nice bonus. The shimmer is strong but a little difficult to photograph. The flakies are a nice scattering on the nail.

This will be a solid 2 coater. You might be able to get away with 1 coat if you go in for a thick coat though. I used 2 coats for my photos. Nothing in here dried textured or will be difficult to remove.

My Indie Polish – IQ2000

Inspiration: IQ2000
Description: an oranged based bronze crelly packed with glitter. can be worn textured or glossed up.
Price: $13 for 15 ml Cap: None

IQ2000 had a great formula. This polish is packed to the brim with holographic glitter, so this is EXTREMELY sparkly. The base for this is an interesting color. In the bottle, it looks like a blackened green. On the first coat you can see the orangey base but once you build it up, it looks more bronzey with a very slight greenish tinge.

The glitters in this spread out evenly and easily on their own without needing to do anything special. To smooth this one out completely, I used 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be difficult just due to the amount of glitters. I would recommend soaking this one off.

Out of curiosity, I decided to wear this on my dominant hand to see how textured it felt fully dried down. When fully dry, this feels very gritty. Not quite as sandpapery as Zoya Pixidust polishes but definitely gritty. Also even without top coat, this is still extremely holographic.

NeVerMind Apothecary – Qwirkle Quirks

Inspiration: Qwirkle
Description: A black Jelly with a rainbow of different multichrome flakes
Price: $11.50 Cap: 200

Qwirkle Quirks had a really nice jelly formula. It was a little on the thicker side but I think that might be due to humidity/heat the day I was swatching. The rainbow flakies look breathtaking in this base!

This will be a 2-3 coater depending on preference and thickness of coats. Alternatively doing 1 coat over black will give a similar look as 3 coats. I used 3 coats for my photos.

Nothing in here dried textured or will be overly difficult to remove.

Paint It Pretty Polish – Split The Line

Inspiration: Rummikub
Description: a blue jelly packed with shifting iridescent flakes in pink, purple, orange and green.
Price: $12 for 15ml Cap: 100

Split The Line had a great jelly formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The iridescent flakes look so beautiful in this base! I found the base leaned a little blurple-y in some lighting.

Nothing in here dried textured or will be overly difficult to remove. I used 3 coats for my photos.

Red Eyed Lacquer- This Is The Way

Inspiration: The Child Monopoly
Description: A white crelly with blue, green, gold, silver metallic flakies and a blue/green shifting shimmer
Price: $12.50 for 12ml Cap: 100

This Is The Way had a great crelly formula. I didn’t have any application issues. The shimmer and flakies look amazing in the base! This polish gives me serious wintery vibes.

This will be opaque in 2-3 coats depending on preference. I used 3 coats for my photos. Nothing in here dried textured or will be overly difficult to remove.

Sassy Cats Lacquer – Operation Oogie Boogie

Inspiration: The A Nightmare Before Christmas themed Operation Game
Description: A bright green cream with shifting copper/gold aurora shimmer.
Price: $13 for 15ml Cap: 80

Operation Oogie Boogie had a great formula. To me, it felt more like a jelly polish than a creme. It started out pretty sheer so you will want to build it up. The shimmer is very strong due to the sheerness of the base! I found that in person, it was mainly showing the gold shift.

This builds up nicely in 3 coats. I still have some pretty obvious VNL in 3 coats but y’all know I don’t mind a little VNL! If VNL bugs you, this polish should work well with a VNL blurring base coat or even applying this over a opaque creme.

No issues with staining.

Swamp Gloss – Extremely Distructive Unicorn

Inspiration: Unstable unicorns
Description: A white to blue solar crelly with UCC flakes that shift violet/red/pink/bronze/gold
Price: $13 for 15ml  Cap: 200

Extremely Distructive Unicorn had a great formula. The flakies spread out nicely on their own.

I brought this one out into the sun in the early evening hours and it changed on me right away. Depending on how strong the sunlight is, will depend on how deep of a blue you get with this polish.

I think this will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. If you like white crelies in 2 coats, this will probably be a 2 coater for you. I used 3 coats for my photos. Nothing in here dried textured or will be difficult to remove.

Sweet & Sour Lacquer – Count And Capture

Inspiration: mancala
Description: An orange leaning brown mustard crelly with red, silver, blue, and purple metallic flakies, and a hint of shimmer.
Price: $12.50 for 15ml Cap: 100

Count And Capture had a great formula. The metallic flakies look so fun in this base. They spread out really nicely and on the nail without needing to do anything special. The base color is somewhere between a sand tan and gold color. There seems to be a yellow or green shimmer in it that adds to a metallic look.

This will be a 2-3 coater depending on application. I used 3 coats for my photos. Nothing in here dried textured or will be overly difficult to remove.

A note on thermal/solar polishes…

I want to note that thermal and solar polishes do have a shelf life on how long they will change colors for. Generally they are guaranteed to change colors for 6-12 months. My oldest thermal that still transitions is from 2018. To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
