Orly Pop! Summer 2022 Color Pass + Comparisons

[Purchased, affiliate links used – Post Disclosure Page]

Hey nail friends! Today I am sharing the Orly summer 2022 collection called Pop! I picked this collection up through the Orly Color Pass subscription. Mainstream summer collections are always a favorite of mine so I was really excited to crack this package open.

I do want to note, that when I originally took these photos I was trying to figure out the correct white balance for my new camera so the coloring on these are a little off sadly. My live swatch video has more color accurate representations of these. I will make notes under each polish so you all know more about what the color was like in person.

Live Swatch ideo

Orly is a US based mainstream brand. Their polishes are in massive 18ml bottles, 12 free, cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Connect The Dots

Description: a coral pink creme

Connect The Dots had a fantastic formula. It applied buttery smooth and self leveled perfectly. It was also surprisingly opaque!

The brand describes this as a coral pink but honestly I found it didn’t lean pink, red or orange. I would say it is a true almost neon coral. Note: My natural light shot (photo #4) is the most color accurate photo I have for this polish.

My photos show Connect The Dots in 2 coats plus top coat. It dried down fairly glossy on its own.

Claim To Fame

Description: a golden yellow creme

Claim To Fame had a good formula. I will admit, I fully expected this to be a streaky mess (due to it being a yellow) but I didn’t have any issues with. It was slightly on the thicker side and self leveled really nicely.

In person, this was reminding me a lot of Holo Taco’s Butterscotch Hop (Tea Cremes collection). This polish is *slightly* brighter and more summery looking in person. Note: My natural light photo is the most color accurate photo of this polish.

My photos show Claim To Fame in 3 coats. I think this will likely be a solid 3 coater unless you aren’t picky about light spots. It does dry fairly glossy but I did use top coat for my photos.

Rinse & Repeat

Description: a sky blue creme polish

Rinse & Repeat had a good formula. It was a lot thinner than the other polishes in this release and had a tendency to run down the stem of the brush. Other than that, no real application issues. It self leveled really nicely.

Straight out the bat, this reminded me of the blue polish called Sky’s The Limit from the Lisa Frank collection. Side by side, I can see a difference but they’re close.

My photos show Rinse & Repeat in (I think, I forgot to write it down) 2 coats plus top coat.

Crash The Party

Description: a purple creme

Crash The Party had a good formula. It was a little thinner than some of the other polishes but not quite as thin as Rinse & Repeat. I didn’t have any problems with it running down the stem of the brush as I did with R&R and it self leveled really nicely.

In person, I would say this is a warm toned medium purple. How warm it looks will depend on lighting and your undertones. My outdoor shots came out warmer than it was in person. I have a lot of warm undertones in my hands so I found this made my fingers look a little red.

My photos show Crash the party in 2 coats plus top coat.

Don’t Pop My Balloon

Description: a bubblegum pink shimmer

Don’t Pop My Balloon had a really nice formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any issues with it. The shimmer effect gives this an almost frosty look on the nail. It also shows brush strokes. I feel like the shimmer also has some slight color shift to it. I was seeing a pink/gold/green color shift but it was VERY slight.

I feel like color wise, my swatch photos for this one is fairly accurate. It showed up a much more vibrant pink outside than it looks in person. I think I would have liked this more if it looked less frosty.

My photos show Don’t Pop My Balloon in 2 coats plus top coat.

Just An Illusion

Description: gold holographic glitter topper

Just An Illusion had a really great formula. The base has as a lot of glitter in it but didn’t feel thick. I found the glitters all applied very evenly without giving off texture.

To my eye, it seems like there are multiple types of glitters in here. In person, I was seeing both silver, holographic and metallic gold glitter. It seems like the holographic glitter is silver and then there is a gold glitter as well.

When I originally swatched this, I didn’t realize it was a topper so my photos show it in 3 coats on its own and then in 1 coat over black (Heather’s Hues Shadow). One coat of top coat smoothed this out completely.

Removal is going to be very messy if you try to scrub this polish off. I soaked it off with no issues.

Note: My photos of this came out *a lot* more silver looking than gold. It was a bit more gold in person than my photos show, sorry!

I couldn’t help myself so I also did a skittle mani featuring all of the polishes in this release.

Don’t Be Square (Color Pass exclusive)

Don’t Be Square had a good formula. You get a good amount of glitters out on the nail but you will want to apply it with more dabbing motions than normal brushing. This will need a really good shake as the glitters do sink a bit.

So this polish gave me some Animal Crossing grass vibes so I liked it for that. But as like a nail polish to wear, I wasn’t a fan. I want to give Orly an A for releasing such a different/weird glitter topper. But I think this would be better suited for nail art than as a typical topper.

Note: I didn’t feel like color correcting the base color I used for this swatch and since the original polish looks nothing like what my photos show, I won’t list what color it was.

Final Thoughts

This collection was really nice overall. I was disappointed that there weren’t like BAM in your face neons in here. Summer collections are my favorite releases from mainstream brands so I was expecting more neon and less bright?

My favorite polish from this release is going to be Connect The Dots.

Comparisons

After seeing Rinse & Repeat side by side with Sky’s The Limit (Lisa Frank collection) I can see how they are different. However, they are still really close.

So in my brain, all of these Orly polishes these were all going to be a lot more similar. However, there are some slight differences in tone between all of them. Synthetic Symphony came out in last year’s summer collection and Make A Splash is another Lisa Frank polish.

So this comparison was a bit harder to do. They were all *really* similar on the nail but the undertones were what made them different. Holo Taco’s Butterscotch hop has more fall vibes. Do you need them all? Probably not.
