Hi friends! After a whole lot of rain, Connecticut is back in the Fall appropriate weather. Which obviously I am 1000% here for! This will be (likely) the second to last Fall collection of the year for the blog.
For 2023 Orly is bringing us the Plot Twist collection. I believe the inspiration for this is mystery.. books? Movies? I am not 100% sure specifically what type of mystery just that mystery is the inspiration. We have 6 polishes in this release, I also have a bonus polish that came with the Color Pass subscription.
The Plot Twist collection is available right now in places where Orly is sold. Orly is available on Amazon, Ulta, Target, Walmart and Sally Beauty. If you would like to pick this collection up at a discount, do check out Beyond Polish! I have an affiliate code NicoleLovesNails with them to save you an extra 10%.

Act of Folly
Description: a mossy creme
Act of Folly is the star of this entire release as far as I am concerned. As a prugly polish lover, I knew immediately that as long as the formula was good, this was going to be my favorite.
The official description makes this sound more green than it is in person. I can best describe this as a peanut butter brown but with a tiny drop of green.
My bottle had a little bit of leakage in transit so my bottle was both gunked up and thick. I ended up adding some thinner to my bottle and that fixed any issues.
My photos show Act Of Folly in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal will of course be very difficult, I didn’t experience any staining with this polish BUT I tend to find colors like it has a tendency to stain. Make sure to wear base coat.
Don’t Be Suspicious
Description: a rich chocolate creme
Don’t Be Suspicious oh how I love brown cremes! On my skin tone, this pulls a very cool toned brown which I appreciate as that means it doesn’t make my hands look red.
I found Don’t Be Suspicious had a fantastic formula, it applied buttery smooth and self leveled perfectly. The polish dries down slightly darker than it applies.
My photos show Don’t Be Suspicious in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Super easy removal and I didn’t experience any staining.
Endless Night
Description: a carbon blue shimmer
Endless Night as someone who generally dislikes finishes like this, I surprised myself by really liked this polish. I found the shimmer shows some brush strokes. They are more obvious when the polish is wet and largely disappear as the polishe dries.
The base was slightly on the thinner side but by no means watery, it applies evenly and easily. The shimmer doesn’t dry down textured but will make removal pretty messy.

In The Conservatory
Description: A dusty brick red
In The Conservatory I don’t know who at Orly looked at this and saw “dusty brick red”, my first thoughts on this color were “That’s coral”. After a quick Google search, I came to realize that there are like 30 different shades of “brick red” so I will give Orly a pass on calling this a brick red even though to me it looks like a coral.
Like all of the other polishes, both the formula and application were both perfect. This was pretty much a one coater for me but I did use 2 coats for my photos.
My photos show In The Conservatory in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I think this also dries down slightly darker than it initially applies.
Shaky Alibi
Description: A chic mauve creme
Shaky Alibi I know long-time readers know that I was going to say this was the color that I had the least interest in just based on my own color preferences. This is pale pink in a Fall appropriate tone.
Once again, I feel the official description is a little bit misleading because I don’t really see how this is a mauve. Again, it looks like a pale pink in a Fall color scheme.
It was streaky enough on the first coat that I thought for sure this would be a three coater. However, I found it built up perfectly for me in two coats.
My photos show Shaky Alibi in 2 coats plus glossy to pcoat.
Unraveling Story
Description: A mysterious, rich gray,
Unraveling Story as a grey creme lover, I had a feeling that I was going to love this color. I would say this is more of a blue toned grey. Prior to reading the description, I was calling this a grey toned blue.
I have a feeling if you are cooler in skin tone, this might pull more grey on you.
Coverage was fantastic, not quite a one coater but close. It self leveled and applied wonderfully. The polish dries down slightly darker than it applies.

Color Pass Exclusives
The Color Pass exclusives this month are a bottle of Aloe, Goodbye and Protein Boost from the Orly Breathable line. Neither are exclusuive only to the box so don’t feel like you’re missing out this season!
Aloe, Goodbye! is a medium grey crelly base with a very delicate green shimmer. From arm’s length away you won’t see a ton of the shimmer. I used two coats for my photos.
Final Thoughts
I thought this release overall was great. All of the polishes had great formulas, everything applied wonderfully. The color story is very Fall, which I do appreciate.
I feel like the only complaint I have is that I wish there weren’t 2 blue toned colors and that maybe a red or green were in here as well. I know, weird that the woman who often complains about reds is wanting a red but those are my thoughts ok??
My top picks from this release are going to be Act Of Folly, In The Conservatory, and Don’t Be Suspicious. Unraveling Story is going to be an honorable mention.
