Orly Momentary Wonders Color Pass Winter 2021

[Purchased By Me – Post Disclosure Page]

Hey friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest collection by Orly. It has been a hot minute since I last reviewed Orly on my blog so I am really happy to be sharing this collection with you all. For Winter 2021, Orly has the Momentary Wonders collection.

I subscribe to the Orly Color Box so I will also give a quick review on the other items that came with it this season.

This is a 6 piece collection inspired by the magic of winter. It is available now in all of the places that Orly is sold. As per usual, I will have links at the end of the post.

Awestruck

Description: a fuchsia shimmer (with slight color shift to it)

Awestruck had a really great formula. It did have a tendency to run down the stem of the brush a little bit so be mindful of that. This polish has a more metallic shimmer look on the nail.

I found this applied just a little streaky at first. The streaks seem to even themselves out with the second coat but I used 3 coats for my photos. I might have been a little picky but I just felt like the coverage wasn’t where I wanted it to be in 2 coats.

The shimmer effect will show brush strokes so keep an eye on those on your final coat. I thought for sure this was going to stain me but I didn’t have any problems with staining.

Dancing Embers

Description: a golden red shimmer

Dancing Embers had a good formula. It seemed slightly thinner and had a tendency to run down the stem of the brush. I found in person, this looked to me like a deep orangey coral that had a reddish color shift.

The shimmer showed quite a bit of brush strokes so be mindful of that on your final coat. Despite being on the thinner side, this was opaque on me in 2 coats.

I don’t generally love reds that lean orange as they make my hands look very red but this was pretty in person. I didn’t have any issues with staining.

Ephemeral

Description: sheer gold iridescent shimmer

Ephemeral had a really great formula. The shimmer is very sparkly. I think this is supposed to be a topper? I really don’t know to be honest! I found it builds up really well in 3 coats.

This reminded me a lot Hay Girl Hay by China Glaze but they’re not *exact* dupes. Very similar but not 100% dupes.

In 3 coats, I did still have some VNL. In 1 coat over black, it looks pretty nice. Honestly, I’m the most underwhelmed with this polish. It’s beautiful, but I just feel like I have seen it a bunch over the years.

Flight Of Fancy

Description: a violet shimmer

Flight Of Fancy had a wonderful formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. In person, I was seeing a plum to magenta color shift.

It had really great coverage in one coat. I think if you go in for thicker coats, this could be a one coater if your nails are short. I swatched this one in 2 coats. Flight Of Fancy dries fairly dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

Touch Of Magic

Description: sheer bronze iridescent shimmer

Touch Of Magic had a great formula as well. The shimmer aspect in this is larger in particle size than the others in the collection. It gives a glitter-like effect on the nail without any of the drawbacks (texture, difficult removal) of glitter. If this were an indie, I might have called this a microflakie.

In person, I was seeing a champagne base with a pink to gold/yellow color shift.

This polish is on the more sheer side so you will want to build it up for opacity. I found in 3 coats I didn’t have obvious VNL. I think it will depending on how thick of a coat you go in for if you will have VNL with this polish.

I wasn’t sure if this was supposed to be a topper or not, so I also swatched it in 1 coat over black (I used Heather’s Hues Shadow). Personally, I like it in 3 coats on its own. This won’t be difficult to remove but it will be messy if you scrub it off.

Whispered Lore

Description: golden olive shimmer

Whispered Lore had a really great formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and it applied very smoothly. The base for this seems to be a metallic duochrome that shifts from gold to green with a hint of blue at extreme angles. For the most part, this looks gold with hints of green on the nail.

This polish is absolutely stunning on the nail! I didn’t think I would like it very much but it’s really beautiful.

There were some slight brush strokes through the duochrome so make sure to pay attention to your lines on the final coat. This polish had pretty good coverage in 2 coats but it was still just a tiny bit sheer. I used 3 coats for my swatches.

Color Pass Bonus Items

As I mentioned, I subscribe to the Orly Color Pass. With each Color Pass box, you receive a few bonus items (usually 2). This box came with an exclusive polish called The Spice Is Right and a really big hair clip. Unfortunately for me, I have way too much hair to fit this massive hair clip. However, I also have butt length locs so most hair clips are too small for me anyway.

The exclusive polish is from their Breathable line. I have never tried any of the polishes in that line before but this one had a pretty good formula. I needed 3 coats to get it fully opaque. I generally prefer cremes to be 1-2 coaters on my nails at this length but I did like how it applied. Very smooth and self leveled perfectly.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I thought this was a really great collection. I do wish there had been some glitters in here but I feel like I always want glitter in a collection. I don’t feel like the colors themselves were terribly unique BUT I really liked them. For what I had in my collection that was similar color wise, the formulas on these were better and more opaque.

The color story was really beautiful. I don’t feel like this looks like a classic Holiday collection which I do like as Holiday collections are always my least favorite of the seasonal releases. Followed very closely by Spring releases. For 2021, Orly has released a few collections that didn’t feature classic seasonal colors which I honestly really appreciated.

Sale Information

This collection is available right now in stores where Orly is sold. You can purchase them on OrlyBeauty.com. If you want to save some coins, subscribing to the Orly Color Pass would be your best bet. The annual box (which is what I subscribe to) will bring you to $119 for 4 collections.

The quarterly box isn’t that great of a deal IMO. And just a heads-up, there’s usually a coupon code floating around to save $10 off of your subscription. The current code is FIRSTBOXFREE which saves you $12.

If you would like to buy online at a discounted rate, Head2ToeBeauty has these for $4.75 each. Make sure if you order from there to use the 5% coupon code that is listed on the main homepage.

At the time of posting, these are not yet up on Amazon in regular polish but they are available in gel. Amazon Link
