Night Owl Lacquer Summer Vibes

[Press Samples – Post Disclosure Page]

Hello my friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest releases from Night Owl Lacquer. It has been a little while since I had a full blog post dedicated to this brand so I am pretty excited about these. The fact this is a neon collection also makes things very exciting!

For Summer 2022, Night Owl Lacquer is bringing us the Summer Vibes collection. Plus the brand is also releasing a new creme of the quarter (previously these were monthly but for 2022 NOL is releasing them by season). I recently picked up nearly all of the creme polishes by this brand so of course, I will have some comparisons because I just like doing those.

Anywho, this collection is available right now on the Night Owl Lacquer website. As per usual, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post!

Night Owl Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade, 5 free and cruelty free.

Blue Raspberry Icee

Description: a clear base loaded with reflective silver micro glitters, bright blue metallic flakes & fuschia/purple/blue color shifting crystal chameleon flakes
Price: $12

Blue Raspberry Icee had a fantastic formula. SInce this is in a clear base, you will want to build it up for opacity. The base didn’t feel overly thick despite having a TON of components in it. I found all of the glitters and flakies spread out very evenly.

I found in 1 coat Blue Raspberry Icee worked really well as a topper. I used Night Owl Lacquer’s So Fresh & So Green as my base. The texture from the glitters evened out really well with just one coat of top coat as a topper.

My swatches for Blue Raspberry Icee  show it in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I found that in 3 coats, you get a lot more texture so pairing this with a glitter smoothing top coat will give you the smoothest finish. However, I didn’t find a glitter smoothing top coat was necessary when I wore this as a topper.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Description: a neon green crelly filled with a rainbow of iridescent color shifting crystal chameleon flakes
Price: $12.40

Don’t Worry, Be Happy had a fantastic formula. It starts off a little sheer but builds up very nicely. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues.

All of the flakies spread out evenly and easily without giving off much noticeable texture. I LOVE how they look paired with the base color. I would say on the scale of neon greens, this is more of a neon lime green than a neon slime/ectoplasm kinda green (hopefully that makes sense).

My photos show Don’t Worry, Be Happy in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. If you have shorter nails, I can see this one being a 2 coater however the third coat does deepen the base color. Removal won’t be overly difficult but the flakies will be messy if you scrub this one off.

Glorious Porpoise

Description: a grey crelly with pink/gold/green color shifting crystal chameleon flakes & a rainbow of neon glitter
Price: $11.40

Glorious Porpoise had a fantastic formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick at all despite having *a lot* of glitters and flakies in it. I found both the flakies and glitters spread out evenly. I didn’t need to hold the bottle upside down or do any glitter fishing. However, I did run it through my nail polish shaker before applying.

The glitters do give this polish some texture so to smooth it out, I opted to pair this with a glitter smoothing top coat before going in with my quick dry top coat.

I swatched Glorious Porpoise in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. This had pretty good coverage in 2 coats so if you have shorter nails than me and don’t want (for whatever reason) as much glitter as I clearly do it will be passable in 2 coats.

Removal will be on the more difficult side if you try to scrub this off. I used a peel off base coat.

Wildberry Smoothie

Description: a neon purple loaded with glowing red/copper/gold shifting shimmer
Price: $13

Wildberry Smoothie had a wonderful formula. I found the base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. To my eye, the polish looks like a neon pinky purple. I think the shimmer makes it look a lot more pink toned than the actual base color is.

The shimmer was very glowy! It did show some brush strokes but like 90% of those disappear as the polish dries. You will have to look for them to spot them with the naked eye.

I swatched Wildberry Smoothie in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length. I had some *very* slightly VNL on the clear part of my nail.

Ya Burnt!

Description: a neon red crelly filled with red/copper/gold multichrome flakes
Price: $12

Ya Burnt! had a fantastic formula. The base color is a BRIGHT reddish orange neon. I found it leaned very orange to my eye. My photos came out not quite as neon as I was seeing in person. All of the flakies spread out evenly without giving off texture.

I LOVE the color on this polish. This one screams “perfect for summer” to me. I also feel like it will work well as we get close to fall also due to that burnt look it has to it. I think this is the first time I have seen a burnt neon orange before and I dig it.

My photos show Ya Burnt in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I could see this potentially being a 2 coater however the third coat does deepen the base color and adds opacity. This polish dries down a little flat so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

You’re the Flip to My Flop

Description: a neon pink loaded with iridescent purple/pink/gold/green/blue shifting shimmer
Price: $13

You’re the Flip to My Flop also had a fantastic formula. The base color to my eye is a BRIGHT neon pink that I lovingly call neon PANK. I found this applied very nicely with no issues.

The shimmer in here was strong and while it wasn’t an in your face shimmer, it was still very visible. I found the colors I was seeing were purple, pink, gold and blue. I didn’t see any brush strokes.

Made For Peach Other (Creme Of The Quarter)

Description: a neon peach creme
Price: $8

Made For Peach Other had a fantastic formula. It was on the thicker side of normal but what I expect from an opaque creme polish. It self leveled perfectly and I didn’t have any application issues. Due to the thickness, I could see someone having issues if they overwork applying it.

To my eye, this was as described. It was ridiculously difficult trying to get this one color accurate. It photographed very orange for me and color correcting is something I am still working on perfecting. The peachiness is most obvious when you have this next to a true orange.

My photos show Made For Peach Other in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. This was *almost* a one coater for me. You will want top coat as the polish does dry down flat.

Final Thoughts

It is no surprise to anyone that I freaking LOVED this collection! To be fair, I am obsessed with neon collections so I was already loving these long before I ever even swatched them.

My top picks are going to be Glorious Porpose and Made For Peach Other.

Comparisons

I wanted to compare Made For Peach Other to some of this brand’s other neon oranges. No dupes that I can find!

I also wanted to put You’re The Flip To My Glop and Wildberry Smoothie side by side as I feel like people might think there’s too much pink in this release? The two polishes aren’t all that similar.
