Potion Ingredients Volume 2
Breath of a Banshee
Description: a light grey glowing with purple/pink/gold/green aurora shimmer
Price: $13
Breath of a Banshee had a fantastic formula. The shimmer is VERY strong and color shifty. I was seeing all of the described colors in person.
The grey base is very light, not so light that it would look white. The shimmer really pops from it.
I used 2 coats for my photos. This dries slightly dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.
Essence of Fright
Description: a black jelly with orange holographic shreds and lots of green/blue/purple color shifting crystal chameleon flakes
Price: $12
Essence of Fright had a wonderful jelly formula. All of the flakes and shreds spread out very evenly and easily on their own without drying down textured. I was seeing all of the described colors in the flakes and this one just looks so beautiful!
This polish will be opaque in 2 to 3 coats depending on your nail length. I use two coats for my photos I think longer nails will likely want to go in for three coats. This polish dries fairly smooth but slightly dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.
Scales of Serpent
Description: a yellowy olive green loaded with gold/copper/bronze and silver/green/copper multichrome flakes
Price: $12
Scales of Serpent also had a wonderful formula. The base is a swampy olive green that gives off Zombie Zest vibes. The flakes all spread out evenly and easily without needing to do anything special. They also dry completely flat.
This base is very jelly like so to get the best opacity, I would say this will be a solid 3 coater. It’s passable in 2 coats as it has very even coverage. My photos show it in 3 coats plus top coat.
Seeds of Discord
Description: a pumpkin orange crelly with gold holographic micro glitters
Price: $11
Seeds of Discord had a beautiful formula. This is the perfect pumpkin orange shade! The glitters all spread out evenly without giving off much texture.
This is a full coverage glitter polish. On me, this was opaque in 2 coats. I think longer nails will likely want to use 3 coats. I used 1 coat of top coat to smooth this out. In the time that I had it on, I didn’t notice the glitters soaking up my layer of top coat.
Tears of a Dragon
Description: a fuschia base filled with purple/red shifting shimmer
Price: $11
Tears of a Dragon had an amazing formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. I was seeing both colors in the shimmer effect. I didn’t see any brush strokes through the shimmer.
This was opaque on me in 2 coats. Longer nails might need a third, depending on thickness of coats. Again, you will want top coat for a glossy finish.
Venom of a Vampire
Description: a bright red filled with red/copper/green aurora shimmer
Price: $13
Venom of a Vampire had a really great formula. I found in person, this is a very vibrant red. The shimmer gives it an orangey look at some angles. Paired with my own undertones (and my camera wasn’t helping) it photographs VERY orange.
It’s also very color shifty, I was mainly seeing the red to copper color shift. The green appeared at extreme angles.
I used 3 coats for my photos. It was 95% opaque in 2 coats but I had a *tiny* bit of VNL. This polish is very pigmented so I would recommend base coat to to prevent staining. I didn’t experience any staining.
Ectoplasm (Cream Of The Month)
Description: an intense neon yellow creme with a slight green undertone
Price: $8
Ectoplasm had a fantastic formula. It felt slightly on the thicker side of normal but that is usually what I expect from opaque indie creams. This polish stayed where I put it and self leveled wonderfully. This also applied buttery smooth. This polish is BRIGHT! Since it is a neon, it will also glow under blacklight.
This polish will be a 1-2 coater depending on your application and personal preference. If pairing this with a topper or nail art, you should be good in 1 coat. I used 2 coats for my photos.
This polish also stamps beautifully! I used What’s Up Nails stamping plate B023 for the stamping.
Wings of Night (5 Year Brand Anniversary Polish)
Description: a black tinted base with purple/pink/gold/green color shifting aurora shimmer and holographic micro flakies.
Price: $13
Wings of Night also had a fantastic formula. The aurora shimmer is VERY color shifty and just pops from the dark base. I was seeing all of the described colors in person. The shimmer doesn’t show brush strokes and the flakies give this a beautiful holo sparkle.
I used 2 coats for my photos. This polish is pretty opaque so I can see nails shorter than mine could get away with 1 medium-thick coat. The micro flakes in this all dry down flat but you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

Final Thoughts
This was an amazing release! I was especially impressed with Ectoplasm’s formula. For a creme polish, it had a fantastic formula. For a yellow creme, it had mindblowingly good formula. I have been meaning to try the creme polishes by this brand for a very long time and I feel pretty dumb for waiting this long.
My top picks from this release are Ectoplasm, Wings Of Night, and Breath of a Banshee.

Comparisons
I thought to compare Wings of Night to High Score that was released earlier this month during Polished Gamers. As you can see, they aren’t particularly similar.
