Night Owl Lacquer Fall 2022

[Press samples]

Hey friends! Today I am sharing the newest collection from Night Owl Lacquer. So originally, I thought the Be A Gem collection from a few months back was the Fall collection for this brand so I was very surprised to see that the October collection was actually going to be Night Owl’s fall collection!

So for Fall 2022 we have a variety of finishes as well as colors. Personally, one of the polishes in this release is one of my favorite finishes that this brand does. Spoiler, that one is going to be my favorite but I won’t tell you what that one is just yet!

All of the polishes in this release are available right now on the Night Owl Lacquer website. As always, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post.

Night Owl Lacquer is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade, 5 free and cruelty free.

Autumn Moon

Description: a maroon  jelly filled with red/copper/gold crystal chameleon flakes and turquoise crystal flakes
Price: $13

Autumn Moon had a fantastic jelly formula. The base was slightly on the thicker side but not unusually so for a flakie filled jelly polish. I found application very easy with this one. Since it is in a jelly base, you will want to build it up to get the most opacity.

I am not the hugest fan of the color maroon but the flakies in this polish are really gorgeous. The turquoise flakies in particular are what make me like this one. They do not dry down super textured but they are a little top coat hungry. I used one thick coat of top coat for my swatches but these might require a second coat of top coat for longer term wear to keep everything nice and glossy.

My photos show Autumn Moon in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. Removal won’t be super difficult but it will be messy if you opt to scrub this off but I would still recommend the soak off method or a peel off base coat.

Forever Fall

Description: a burnt red based multichrome that shifts gold-green/sapphire/violet
Price: $13

Forever Fall had a fantastic formula. The red base is most apparent on the first coat. I found once I started building it up, the main color I was seeing was from the multichrome.

On the nail this will look like a blue, green, and gold color shifting polish. It’s really wild how blue this looks on the nail when the base is a dark red!

When wet, there are quite a bit of brush strokes. As the polish dries they do start to disappear but if you look for them you will see them.

Forever Fall will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. I think most people will likely be good in 2 coats though. I used 3 coats for my photos but that was just to make sure it was 100% opaque.

Removal of this polish will be very easy, I didn’t experience any staining with it.

Fun With Foliage

Description: a clear base filled with bronze reflective glitter pigment, bronze metallic flakes and red/copper/gold multichrome flakes
Price: $12

Fun With Foliage had a fantastic formula. The base felt just slightly on the thicker side but I found application very easy. Since this polish is in a clear base if you want full coverage, you will want to build it up. Alternatively, this will also work well as a topper.

The reflective glitters do give this polish quite a bit of texture so I did opt to pair it with a glitter smoothing top coat before my quick dry top coat. I was able to see the bronze reflects easily out in natural lighting.

This is one of my favorite types of polish this brand releases. Their reflective glitter + flakie in a clear base just always looks so pretty. The colors in this polish really scream Fall.

My photos show Fun With Foilage in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I could have gone in for a third coat to really reach full opacity, but honestly, I love how this flakie combo looks in 2 coats best.

This polish dries down pretty dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish as well as to smooth everything out. And of course, removal will be very difficult and messy if you scrub it off. Seriously, the soak off method is the way to go on removal.

Night Owl Lacquer has done a few polishes with this type of formula. From recent memory, the most similar to this one was Positive Vibes Only from the 2022 Breast Cancer Awareness Box, The flakies used between the two polishes are different but the light reflective glitter color is the same.

Starry Night

Description: a deep blackened indigo filled with holographic gold & sapphire micro glitters
Price: $11

Starry Night had a pretty good formula. It was very much on the thicker side but I found application very easy. The thickness does give it really great coverage. I was very surprised that I got full coverage in only two coats!

The glitters in here all spread out very evenly but did give the polish some slight texture. I opted to pair this with a glitter smoothing top coat before my QDTC but that might not be 100% necessary. I decided to err on the side of caution as usually glitter bombs like this tend to be top coat hungry.

The glitters were also very sparkly and holographic. I initially thought there were reflective glitters in here because there was so much sparle happening in the bottle.

My photos show Starry Night in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be very difficult, I wouldn’t recommend scrubbing this polish off. I used a peel off base coat but the osak off method will also be good for removal.

Final Thoughts

This will be a surprise to no one but I loved this collection! I thought the color story worked well together and I liked that again we had a variety of finishes.

My stand out top pick is going to be Fun With Foilage. I really thought that one was like Fall in a bottle. Starry Night is my honorable mention because it was just so sparkly and beautiful.
