Mooncat The Nightmare Before Christmas Collection Swatch And Review

Sponsored Content, post disclosure page

Hi friends! I am so freaking PUMPED to share this collection with you all! For October Mooncat is collaborating with Disney once again and is bringing us a collection inspired by the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas!! TNBC is one of my favorite childhood movies so I had a bit of a fangirl scream when I realized this release was inspired by this movie!

The Nightmare Before Christmas collection is available right now on the Mooncat website. This release is limited edition but I do believe the polishes will be restocked if they sell out.

As always full sale details can be found at the end of the blog post. Don’t forget to check out my video to see the beautiful collection box as well as see these polishes in more light sources!

Everybody Scream

Description: a midnight purple lacquer filled with ULTRA-fine holographic glitter flakies and blue ULTRA-fine iridescent flakies

Everybody Scream as the kind of person who can’t get enough of purple jelly bases with flakies, the colors of this polish make me super happy. The base itself is on the thicker side, a little bit thicker than I expected but still easy to work with.

The glitters are very tiny so they don’t dry down overly textured, one coat of top coat seemed to smooth everything out nicely. The iridescent flakies give the polish the look of having a blue to purple shimmer effect.

I don’t know why purple polishes with flakies have such a hold on me but they truly never get old.

My photos show Everybody Scream in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal won’t be overly difficult but it will be messy. As per usual, I would recommend the soak off method for the easiest removal.

MY BUGS! MY BUGS!

Description: a light green glow-in-the-dark lacquer filled with green-yellow shimmer

My Bugs! My Bugs! I absolutely love that the polish named after Oogie Boogie is a booger green that glows in the dark! This polish had a great but thicker formula, not so thick that I had to add thinner but I anticipate it needing some down the line.

The shimmer in here is beautiful and has a slight color shift to it. The GITD pigment does give this polish a slightly rubbery feel when it dries down so you will want top coat for a smooth glossy finish.

This and all of the other GITD polishes charge up SO incredibly easily. My nails were glowing well just from the shooting lights but I did charge my nails up with my blacklight flashlight for my photos.

My photos show My Bugs! My Bugs! in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. This will likely be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. Removal won’t be difficult but it will be a little messy.

My Sandy Claws Outfit

Description: a red lacquer filled with ULTRA-fine holographic glitter flakies and color-shifting red-to-pink ULTRA-fine iridescent flakies.

My Sandy Claws Outfit I had a feeling there would be a red in here and I am happy to report that I love it! I went into swatching this polish thinking that I wasn’t going to like it (I have a history of hating on reds) but that wasn’t the case here.

Due to the shimmer in this polish, it has more of a pinky red feel to it than your typical Santa Claus red. As a pink lover, you’ll get no complaints from me about that!

Similar to the other polishes, this is also on the thicker side but I found the application very easy. I really liked coverage for this polish in two coats but I could see folks with longer nails needing a third to cover up VNL.

My photos show My Sandy Claws Outfit in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. You will need top coat to give this a glossy finish. Removal will be a bit messy but not difficult.

Pumpkin King

Description: a black lacquer filled with ULTRA-fine holographic glitter flakies, holographic glitter, and red-to-orange color-shifting shimmer.

Pumpkin King as someone who generally isn’t a big fan of black based nail polish, the holographic elements plus the red shimmer 10000% made me fall in love with this polish. It is so very sparkly.

Much like the other polishes in this release, it is on the thicker side but I didn’t have any difficulty with my application. It’s a little sheer on that first coat but it built up perfectly for me in two coats.

I didn’t realize there was a red element to this until I top coated. I wasn’t picking up much of an orange color shift, but the red is pretty strong. The glitters do not dry down super textured one coat of top coat should be all you need for a glossy finish and to smooth everything out.

My photos show Pumpkin King in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. Once again not the most difficult removal experience but I would still recommend using the soak off method!

Rag Doll

Description: a light blue glow-in-the-dark lacquer filled with blue shimmer

Rag Doll I don’t know why I looked at this color and the name and didn’t immediately think of Sally. It took me longer than I want to admit to try to think of the inspiration for this polish.

Unsurprisingly, this one is fairly uneven on the first two coats. I found I needed three coats to get full coverage with minimal dark spots. If you don’t float your brush, this might show a lot of dark spots.

The shimmer in here is very delicate but still obvious. The GITD pigment charged up easily for me both with natural sunlight and my artificial lighting.

My photos show Rag Doll in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. The GITD pigment causes this dry down with a dull slightly rubbery feel so you will need top coat for a smooth and glossy finish. Removal won’t be overly difficult but it will be messy.

What A Brilliant Nose

Description: a white glow-in-the-dark lacquer filled with orange shimmer

What A Brilliant Nose has kinda sheer and kinda milky while appearance so you will want ot build it up to get the most opacity going as well as to build the shimmer up.

I think this is another one that is a good candidate for more careful application like floating your coats on. If you are like me and have a tendency to want to ‘fix’ your coats by adding more brush strokes to even things out, don’t do that with this polish. You’ll just make more dark spots and make your nails look patchy.

I do love how the shimmer looks in this polish! I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this one but I loved how it looked. I feel like if I wore it again I might add a holo topper just for some sparkle.

I actually got to wear this polish for a whopping 24 hours and was OBSESSED with it. When I tell you it GLOWS in the dark it GLOWS in the dark. One thing to note, I can see in my photos a few pigment specks in the GITD pigment, I didn’t notice those in person but I did give Mooncat a headsup about that.

Final Thoughts

I have been a fan of TNBC since I was in around 3rd grade. I listen to the soundtrack every year for Christmas and rewatch the movie. So to say that I was ready to be super critical of anything that didn’t seem to be related to the movie!

I love that you can look at the polishes and guess who they are inspired by. The packaging for this release is also phenomenal. I’m really happy about everything in this collection.

My top picks are going to be Pumpkin King, Everybody Scream and What A Brilliant Nose. My Bugs! My Bugs! gets an honorable mention for being a booger green.
