Hi friends! I am so pumped to share this collection with you guys today. Today I am sharing a new limited edition collaboration between Mooncat and Disney. This is the Mooncat x Alice In Wonderland collection.
This is the first Mooncat review that I have done on the blog. I have purchased from them in the past (both as Mooncat and when they were Live Love Polish) but for whatever reason I never blogged about it. This brand has some of the most beautiful bottles that I have ever seen in a nail polish brand so I was pretty dang excited when they reached out to sponsor a video on my YouTube channel.
The Alice In Wonderland collection is available right now on the Mooncat website. As always, I will have more sale details at the end of the post as well as links to stockist pages.

Mooncat is a US based boutique brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty free and vegan.
A Very Merry Unbirthday
Description: a purple lacquer jam-packed with shifty blue shimmer and color-shifting blue-to-purple multichrome flakies
A Very Merry Unbirthday I expected this one to be a lot thicker than it ended up being. It was actually the perfect level of thickness for me. It’s sheer enough on that first coat that it has some potential to be a topper but it also builds up really nicely by the second coat. If you got in for thick coats, it’s opaque in 2 but with thin coats, you’ll need 3.
The flakies were pretty small in size but boy do they pack a punch! I was seeing a blue, purple with pink at extreme angles. Paired with the shimmer, just wow. Since the flakies are so small, if you really look you can see your nail bed between them.
My photos show A Very Merry Unbirthday in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Nothing in here dries down textured but you will want top coat for a glossy finish.
Bread-And-Butterflies
Description: a golden yellow magnetic lacquer filled with color-shifting pink-to-green-to-gold iridescent flakies, and micro holographic glitter, that reveals a subtle green magnetic aura
Bread-And-Butterflies for whatever reason I didn’t think that I was going to like this polish. Which as someone who LOVES how gold looks on me, that was kind of silly. The formulation was superb, a bit thinner than I expected from a flakie polish but by no means thin/watery.
I would describe the color more like a yellowy gold vs a golden yellow but I recognize that is semantics. The flakies look so pretty in that gold base and paired with the magnetic effect, loved it!
I was told by the brand that the magnetic effect of Bread-And-Butterflies is supposed to be a softer aura-like effect so they’re calling it an optional magnetic. Personally, I loved it magnetized. I found it magnetized very easily for me and it adds to the glow of the overall polish.
This will be a 2-3 coater depending on your personal preference. I liked coverage in 2 coats but I added a third to magnetize that final later.
My photos show Bread-And-Butterflies in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. My ring and pinky fingers are unmagnetized. This dries down slightly textured but one coat of top coat smoothed everything out nicely for me. Removal won’t be the worst thing ever but I still wouldn’t recommend scrubbing it off.
Cheshire Cat
Description: a purple magnetic lacquer filled with multicolored iridescent flakies and micro holographic glitter that reveals a bright pink magnetic stripe
Cheshire Cat had a fantastic formula. I knew immediately that I was going to love this polish. The base was on the more jelly-like side so you do need to build it up to reach full opacity.
Unmagnetized, you don’t get the same royal purple jelly base look. It has a more pinky tone to it that way due to the magnetic shimmer. Once you magnetized, you get the dark purple base and the flakies look much more striking. This magnetized very easily for me using the zig zag magnetic.
My photos show Cheshire Cat in 2 coats unmagnetized on my ring and pink and then in 3 coats magnetized on my pointer and middle fingers. This will be a 2-3 coater depending on how you want to magnetize it. I found the magnetic effect stayed pretty crisp over time.
Do You Play Croquet?
Description: a light orchid pink lacquer filled with color-shifting iridescent flakies, soft pink shimmer, reflective glitter, and micro holographic glitter
Do You Play Croquet? is one of those colors that I have somehow managed to convince myself that I don’t like despite how much I love how it looks on me. I told the folks over on my Youtube channel that I would stop saying that I don’t like pinky orchids since I clearly do.
This had more of a crelly-like finish so it’s not as sheer as some of the other colors. Paired with the iridescent flakies, I loved this! I did find for the reflective glitters I wasn’t really able to see them in person. I could see a pink reflective glitters in the bottle but not on my nails.
I will fully admit that I goofed and didn’t get natural light shots of this one. My live swatch video shows the reflective glitters out in daylight. My camera was able to pick up some silver reflects that my eyes couldn’t. I was mainly just seeing the silver holo glitters sparkle.
My photos show Do You Play Croquet? in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. I feel like my camera was able to pick up a little bit of sheerness with it so you might need a third coat depending on your preference. The glitters do dry down a little textured but I found one thick coat of top coat smoothed everything out nicely for me. Removal will be
Mad Hatter
Description: a black magnetic lacquer jam-packed with micro holographic glitter, and green and purple multichrome flakies, that reveals a rich green magnetic stripe
Mad Hatter as someone who generally isn’t a huge fan of black polishes, the added components of this polish really spoke to me. The multichrome flakies are really small and from arm’s length away look more like a shimmer than a flakie.
The polish was a lot more color shifty in person than the description made me think. I was seeing a green, blue to purple color shift in person. The magnetic effect was very reactive, I opted to use a bar magnet for my swatches. It does seem that this dispersed a lot more than Chesire Cat did, but I loved how it looked more dispersed vs having a straight line.
My photos show Mad Hatter in 2 coats plus glossy top coat, both magnetized and unmagnetized. Very minimal texture but you will still want top coat for a glossy finish. Removal won’t be overly difficult.
Wish I Hadn’t Cried So Much
Description: a light blue lacquer filled with blue shimmer, color-shifting iridescent flakies, and micro holo glitter
Wish I Hadn’t Cried So Much um wow? This was a surprise like for me. Icy/slight blues aren’t really my thing but I have somewhat recently discovered that I do like soft and delicate looking polishes. This one to me seems soft and delicate.
The flakies looked so beautiful paired with the icy blue base. The holographic glitters add a delicate sparkle to the polish.
My photos show Wish I Hadn’t Cried So Much in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. As I mentioned, this polish just seemed like a delicate polish to me so I opted to not add a third coat. If you want more coverage, I would recommend a third coat as I did have some VNL in two.
Nail Art Stickers
I haven’t used nail art since this time last year when I played with the Holo Taco x Julien stickers. So I felt a little rusty but these were a breeze to apply. I opted to use fine tipped tweezers but if you are the type to use your nails as tools (which btw you shouldn’t do that) you could also do that.
I applied these over 2 coats of Essie Sugar Daddy (Amazon or Beyond Polish). I went ham on my middle nail but I controlled myself better on the other nails. These are pretty thin so they aren’t the most textured thing ever. I would recommend top coating them nonetheless. I found without top coat, they popped off of my nails.
Final Thoughts
I loved this release. I will fully admit that I am a sucker for a good packaging moment and am head over heels in love with the Mooncat packaging. The bottle is so cool looking! There is also a collection box that comes with this release that really ups to wow factor.
As far as the polishes go. I appreciate that while all of these have a flakie finish, they are all done differently so that the collection doesn’t feel like each polish has the same formulation.
My top picks are going to be Bread-And-Butterflies, Mad Hatter and Do You Play Croquet?.
