Little Box Of Horrors May 2022 | Rocky Horror

[Paid PR/Press Samples – Post Disclosure Page]

Hey nail friends! Today’s blog post is for the May Little Box Of Horrors shop. The theme for May is Rocky Horror Picture Show. I originally meant to get this blog post up on Friday but Wayne and I went on a road trip so barely any editing got done from Thursday-Sunday.

I was playing catchup before we left and now I am really behind so this week is going to be interesting. The May LBOH is available right now and as per usual, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post!

All Mixed Up Lacquers – He Shook-A-Me-Up

Inspiration: Columbia (aka Little Nell) and her vibrant hair, blush and sequin bow tie!
Description: A berry/magenta base with shiting shimmers and matching
Price: $12.50 for 15ml | Cap: 50

He Shook-A-Me-Up had a fantastic formula. Since it is a jelly base, you will want to build this one up for the most opacity. The flakies all spread out very evenly and the shimmer effect is moreso in the background in my opinion.

To my eye, the base color is somewhere between a berry and a cranberry red. As I mentioned it is a jelly so it is a little sheer. I did have obvious VNL with this polish. I don’t think it will be as noticeable on natural nails but if you have longer nails it will likely be obvious.

My ptohos show He Shook-A-Me-Up in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coat. I didn’t experience any staining.

Cat Tail Nails – We’re Going Home

Inspiration: the outfits of Rocky Horror
Description: silver polish is full of different sized silver flakes and black shreds.
Price: $11 for 15ml | Cap: 250

We’re Going Home had a beautiful formula. The flakies all spread out very evenly and easily. The black shreds do seem to sink *slightly* in the base but I didn’t need to hold the bottle upside down for good coverage. They did seem to want to hang out at the tips of my nails but this type of component often does that.

Just as a test, I did 1 coat after holding the bottle upside down and did notice that I got more shreds out that way. However, I will say it will be personal preference if you do that.

So the description for this polish surprised me, I really felt like this is a gold flakie polish. It wasn’t until I saw it outside close to sunset that it looked silver to me. I found in all of the lighting around my house it was gold. So lighting is going to play a part on if you see this as gold or silver. FYI, Wayne said it was gold.

My photos show We’re Going Home in 3 coats plus top coat. If you don’t mind obvious VNL, it will be passable in 2 coats. I thought for sure the shreds were going to be crazy textured but 1 coat smoothed them out completely for me. Removal will be on the messy/difficult side if you try to scrub this one off.

Hearts & Promises – Jump to the Left, Step to the Right

Inspiration: The Time Warp
Description:  a bright neon pink polish loaded with silver reflective glitter
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: 300

Jump to the Left, Step to the Right had a really great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. I found this applied in a squishy jelly type of way so you will want to build it up for opacity.

The neon pink base is BRIGHT! Like ridiculously bright neon pink so yeah I loved the color on this. I was very surprised that the reflective pigment in here wasn’t insanely textured. I used 1 coat of top coat and that smoothed this out nicely.

My photos show Jump to the Left, Step to the Right in 3 coats with 1 coat of top coat. Removal shouldn’t be overly difficult but the reflective pigment will likely be a messy removal.

LynB Designs – Even Smiling Makes My Face Ache

Inspiration:  Frank n Furter’s face
Description: a black based multichrome that shifts from red to yellow to green with scattered holo shimmer
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None

Even Smiling Makes My Face Ache had a fantastic formula. The base started off sheer, but it builds up very nicely in 3 coats. I found the shimmer effect was VERY strong and color shifty. In my notes, I wrote it down as a magenta, peachy, yellow to green color shift. I didn’t see any brush strokes through that shimmer.

The holographic effect was also very strong. I could easily see it in both my indoor lighting as well as in natural light. I will say in the sun, it is ridiculously holographic.

My photos show Even Smiling Makes My Face Ache in 3 coats plus top coat. I think it will likely be a solid 3 coater if you want the most opacity. I did find depending on lighting I did still have pretty obvious VNL. Nothing in here will dry textured but you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

LynB Designs – Time Warp

Inspiration:  Frank n Furter’s face
Description: Teal to purple to pink to orange multichrome pressed eyeshadow
Price: $13 for 4 grams | Cap: 75

Just wow! I loved this eyeshadow so much. It was VERY VERY color shifty. I found the dominant colors in this to be the teal to purple color shifts and then the pink and orange come in at more extreme angles.

For this look, I skipped using a primer and just applied the multichrome with my finger. I wore this particular look without primer for around 5 hours and didn’t notice it flaking off. In my inner corner, I just popped in some highlight.

MTK Design – Late Night Double Feature Picture Show

Inspiration: Stylized movie poster
Description: Tri-thermal hot pink (hot) to lilac (warm) to red (cold) with violet/purple glowy shimmer and a purple / pink shifting sparkle
Price: $12 for 15ml | Cap: None

Late Night Double Feature Picture Show had a really good formula. I found it was slightly on the thicker side, think opaque indie creme polish level of thickness. It was very easy to apply. I found the color states to be as described.

I had the hardest time getting the individual states to appear in photos. My hands were cold and the room was warm and trying to keep the nails warm enough to show the color states was difficult. But that’s more on me than the polish itself.

My photos show Late Night Double Feature Picture Show in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I found it was 90% opaque in the warm state after 3 coats. The polish dries down dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish.

My Indie Polish – Spotlight

Inspiration: based on a picture from the rocky horror picture show
Description: an obnoxiously holographic blue base with holographic shards and glitter some red to pink shimmer and some pink glitters.
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None

Spotlight had a gorgeous formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick or thin and it was surprisingly opaque. This polish has a TON of holographic sparkle to it. The holographic shards may cause some texture but I found 1 coat of top coat smoothed this out nicely.

I found the shimmer gives the polish an almost metallic look in person, I wasn’t seeing a specific color in the shimmer but I could see something.

My photos show Spotlight in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coat. Removal shouldn’t be overly difficult and I didn’t experience any staining.

Night Owl Lacquer – Strange Journey

Inspiration:  Rocky Horror Picture Show
Description: a clear base filled with silver holographic micro flakies, black & rose gold metallic flakes and burgundy/red/gold shifting shimmer.
Price: $13 for 15ml | Cap: None

Strange Journey had a fantastic formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick at all despite having a ton of things going on it. I was really surprised at how opaque this polish is!

It was incredibly holographic, like BAM in your face holographic. Since this is in a clear base, you can also use it as a topper. I wouldn’t suggest as a topper over nail art but over like a creme or shimmer it will work well. I also swatched it in 1 coat over a black creme polish.

My photos show Strange Journey in 2 coats plus both glossy and matte top coat. Removal is going to be on the messy side if you try to scrub this polish off.
