KB Shimmer Black Friday Multichrome Releases

Happy Turkey Day everyone! Today I am sharing some mutlichrome polishes that were released yesterday by KB Shimmer! Two of these polishes have the new black to red multichrome pigment that is currently sweeping the nail polish world by storm! These all had the same great easy to use formula so for my short reviews on each one, I will not talk about formula or application because they were all the same. Also, this will be photo heavy so I don’t have my usual bottle and brush shots. These are available now on the KB Shimmer website as well as their various international stockists! I will have links to everything at the end of this post!

In case you haven’t heard of this brand before, KB Shimmer is one of the OG indie polish brands. On top of nail polish, they also have a selection of skin care products including one of my favorite sugar scrubs ever and my new favorite top coat. Their products are vegan, cruelty free and the polishes are 5 free.

Disclaimer: I was sent these products in exchange for photos and a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight LED bulbs and outdoors in natural light. I used the KB Shimmer Clearly On Top glossy top coat and the Glisten & Glow matte top coat for my photos.

Dragon On and On

Description: A jewel-toned sapphire blue boldly morphs into a rich grape.

Dragon On And On At my desk, I was mainly seeing a jewel toned blue with purple on the edges. Once I move my fingers around, I see more shades of blue and the grapey purple. So while this is described as “only” having 2 colors, you will get a whole range of shades between the two colors. My photos show it in 3 thin coats. This will be a 2-3 coater depending on how thick of a coat you use and the length of nails.

Much Lava To You

Description: a deep, nearly black base accented by linear holographic pigment. Shifts to molten hues of umber, crimson, orange, and gold.

Much Lava To You Ok, full disclosure. I was squeeing so loudly when I saw this polish in the KB Shimmer fan group! I was seeing all of the color shifts described just sitting at my desk. The holographic element is strong but not so strong that it greys out the base or distracts from the color shifts. It’s *just* the right amount (in my opinion obviously) of holographic sparkle added to the base. I found it was opaque in 2 coats however I had some light spots towards the tips so I used 3 coats for my photos.

Obsidian

Description: a deep black hue that shifts to molten shades of umber, crimson, orange, and gold.

Obsidian is the sister polish to Much Lava To You! It’s the same black multichrome pigment but without the holo. I was seeing all of the color shifts just sitting at my desk. The red was almost a burgundy or wine red. So depending on lighting, you’ll see either a deep red or the more firey tones. Very slightly brush strokey but the lines almost all disappear while it dries. This will also be a 2-3 coater depending on preference and polishing style. I used 3 thin coats for my photos.

Stay Salty

Description: A seafoam green shifts to shades of navy and purple.  In some light, a gleaming silver hue sets off a deeper green.

Stay Salty is more of a shimmery multichrome than a smooth like the previous polishes. At my desk, I was seeing a really interesting silvery green to a tealish blue. I can’t recall ever seeing a multichrome with silver in it before. It is a little brush strokey, so be mindful of that on your final coat. My photos show it in 3 coats. This is also a 2-3 coater depending on preference.

Final Thoughts

I L-O-V-E these polishes! These all had fantastic formulas and application was a breeze. The formulas weren’t thick or thin and it don’t seem prone to running. They will all be 2 or 3 coaters depending on how thick of a coat you use and nail length. Thicker coats (within reason, don’t go too wild now) will be perfectly fine with these. The KB Shimmer brush makes application super easy too. Obviously, the ones we’re all going to be talking about are Obsidian and Much Lava To You because of the pigment used but don’t sleep on the Dragon On and On or Stay Salty! I won’t lie though, Obsidian and Much Lava To You are my personal favorites from this release.

Happy Turkey Day!

I hope everyone has a safe Turkey day (aka Thanksgiving or whatever you want to call it). Be safe, stay in and shop some small business Black Friday sales! Wayne and I will be having our first Thanksgiving with just the two of us (we usually visit my parents for holidays). He’s frying our turkey and most of the side dishes. I’m in charge of prep work, the macaroni & cheese and dessert. I made an Oreo pie! Assuming it comes out ok, I’ll have photos on my Instagram story and also on my personal account (if I remember to login). Once I get this post up, I plan on taking the rest of the day off and play some Animal Crossing New Horizons! Have a safe weekend from both Wayne and I plus the cats, Isabelle and the chickens!
