[Press Samples – Post Disclosure Page]
Hi friends! Long weekend’s always throw me off. I have felt like every day from Thursday onwards has felt like a weekend? It honestly threw me off quite a bit. Today’s probable first of a few blog posts, is for the newest collection from Holo Taco. This is their Magnetic Magic collection.
This is a 5 piece collection of all magnetic polishes. Which is the first time Holo Taco has released this type of polish. To be honest, while I wouldn’t say I am a magnetic hater it’s not my favorite finish. So I wasn’t super pumped up about this release based on the initial reveals. I will give more on my thoughts at the end of the blog post.
All of these polishes are available right now on the Holo Taco website, which of course is linked down below. For all of these swatches, I will be showing the polishes both magnetized and unmagnetized.

Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.
Fairy Tale
Description: Taupe magnetic polish (dark brown base and a light bronze magnetic stripe) with holographic micro-flakes
Fairy Tale had a good formula. It was a lot more opaque than I expected it to be. This was opaque on me in 2 coats. I really wanted to love this polish because I do like brown shades. However, I was a little disappointed as I wished it had more color shiftiness. It kinda just ranges in shades of brown.
I used KBShimmer’s new Zig Zag magnet for my swatch. I’ll be honest, I kinda botched it so the lines 1) didn’t get crisp and 2) they dissipated a lot. I try to fix it with magnetizing again after top coating but that didn’t really help. The polish did magnetize easily for me though so there’s that.
My photos show Fairy Tale in 2 coats on my pointer and pinky fingers. And in 3 coats on the middle and ring fingers. This polish dried down dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. No issues on removal.
Love Spell
Description: Red-magenta magnetic polish (dark cranberry base and a bright magenta magnetic stripe) with holographic micro-flakes
Love Spell had a fantastic formula. I love the base color on this polish but you know I am a sucker for pink polishes. This was one of the more opaque polishes in the release. Again, it will be a solid 2 coater to reach full opacity. I will note, I would really recommend wearing a base coat with it as it was very pigmented.
I used the ZIp Zag magnet with this swatch and just wow. If I do say so myself, it turned out perfect! The polish magnetized very easily and the lines got nice a crisp for me. The magnetic pigment was very color shifty and I was seeing a magneta/pink, orange to gold color shift in person.
My photos show Love Spell in 2 coats on my pointer and pinky fingers. And in 3 coats on the middle and ring fingers. This polish dried down dull so you will want top coat it for a glossy finish. No issues on removal.
Queen’s Curse
Description: Purple magnetic polish (dark violet base and a purple magnetic stripe) with holographic micro-flakes
Queen’s Curse had a beautiful formula. It felt a little bit thicker than some of the other polishes in this release but not at all overly thick.
This being a purple, I knew that I was going to like the colors in this one. I was seeing a dark purple, lighter purple with pinky purple at extreme angles. Again, I kinda wish there were more color shifts but the colors in here were really beautiful.
I used my go-to ring magnet for this swatch. The magnetic effect seemed to take a bit longer to magnetize for me so I did hold my magnet over my nail a bit longer than I normally do.
My photos show Queen’s Curse in 2 coats on my pointer and pinky fingers and in 3 coats on my middle and ring fingers.
Twice In A Blue Moon
Description: aqua-blue magnetic polish shines bright with scattered holographic flakes
Twice In A Blue Moon had beautiful formula. This was the sheerest of all of the polishes in this release. It’s the only one that I think is likely a 3 coater to cover up VNL.
This one magnetized very easily for me. I used a ring magnet for these swatches. I honestly thought I was going to like this one more than I did. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful but I thought it was going to be my favorite and it wasn’t.
The magnetic shimmer had a teal, blue to purple color shift. I really liked the colors in this one.
My photos show Twice In A Blue Moon in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.
Wicked Potion
Description: a tempting concoction of a deep emerald allure with a dash of scattered holo
Wicked Potion had a fantastic formula. When I say I was shocked at how much I liked this polish in person. I was SHOCKED. I really need to stop telling myself the darker greens aren’t for me.
This one magnetized very easily and looked amazing. I used my ring magnet for these photos. The color shifts that I was seeing were a golden green, medium green to a teal/blue at extreme angles.
My photos show Wicked Potion in 2 coats on my pointer and pinky fingers and 3 coats on my middle and ring fingers.
Final Thoughts
As I mentioned, I went into swatching this collection feeling very neutral to borderline unimpressed. Mainly because 1) magnetics aren’t my favorite and 2) when I like magnetic polishes, they are usually very color shifty. I kinda wished these had more color shifts to them but I do still think they’re pretty polishes.
The color story is very jewel toned which works well for this time of year. I appreciate that we got another brown to add to the Holo Taco lineup. The addition of the holo flakies was a nice touch as well.
This collection also came with a magnet. I don’t love double ended magnets to be honest. I tested the Holo Taco magnet during my live swatch so it does perform well if you were curious. My go-to is still the ring magnet though. I just like the designs that gives more than the typical line of a bar magnet.
My favorite polishes from this release were Wicked Potion and Love Spell.
