Holo Taco Feline Family Magnetic Trio Plus Cracked Taco Shell!!

[Press Samples/Purchased, post disclosure page]

Hey friends! Today I am sharing the newest releases from Holo Taco. The Holo Taco team sent me their new magnetic trio, Feline Family and I purchased their new crackle topper, Cracked Taco Shell. The trio are in celebration of the owner Cristine’s birthday this year.

For the magnetic polishes, I used a different style of magnet for each swatch. Holo Taco does include a wand style magnet with purchases of the polishes that I used with my live swatches.

All of the polishes are available right now on the Holo Taco website. As always more sale details can be found at the end of the post and if you would like to see these polishes in more light sources, check out my live swatch video on my YouTube channel!

Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Cool Cat Mom

Description: a deep royal blue polish with a pink magnetic stripe, scattered holographic microglitters and blue reflective glitters

Cool Cat Mom is the polish that I thought would be my absolute favorite from this release. It wasn’t but I think that might have been my fault. I love the colors of the polish and IMO it is the most unique of the trio.

I chose to swatch this one using my go-to ring magnet and I just don’t like how it turned out. When I was recording my live swatches, I used the Holo Taco wand style magnet and liked that style magnetic effect a lot more.

The polish itself was slightly on the thicker side but what I usually expect from polishes from this brand. It applied really evenly and easily but the glitters do this polish some significant texture. I used two coats of top coat for my swatches and there was still a little bit of texture as the polish dried fully.

The reflective and holographic give the polish a ton of sparkle! I don’t feel like either showed up particularly well in my photos so do check out the video if you would like a better look at them.

This whole swatch might have been cursed, the polish is also a lot more color shifty than you would expect from the description and honestly also from my photos. I was also able to see a gold to green color shift at extreme angles.

While this polish magnetized easily for me, I did notice that in order to get the strongest magnetic effect after the polish dries you do need to hold the magnet on your nail for as long as you can stand it. I held the magnet over my nail for somewhere between 30-50 seconds and then again after top coating.

My photos show Cool Cat Mom in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat, both magnetized and unmagnetized. As I mentioned this polish does dry down textured and the glitters are top coat hungry. Removal will be on the more difficult side, I wouldn’t suggest scrubbing this one off.

Menchie Cat Eye

Description: a sage green polish with a pale white gold magnetic stripe, scattered holographic micro-glitters and green iridescent shimmer

Menchie Cat Eye had a fantastic formula, it was slightly on the thicker side but again what I generally do expect from Holo Taco polishes. There are some visible brush strokes through the magnetic shimmer when the polish is wet but they do disappear as the polish dries down.

Coverage was pretty good but not a one coater, I found two coats got me to full opacity. This magnetized fairly easily for me but I did notice that to get the best magnetic effect holding the magnet over the nail for the full 60 seconds (which the brand recommends) will lock the magnetic effect in better once the polish fully dries down.

I used a zig zag style magnet for my swatches. I really liked how this one looked magnetized. Unmagnetized, it has a very metallic look to it. The micro glitters give the polish a ton of sparkle and you can see them easier when the polish is magnetized. They give the overall polish some slight texture but one coat of top coat smooths everything out nicely.

I didn’t think that I would like this one very much, no real reason why. I did end up liking it but I think the holographic and golden elements are what got me.

My photos show Menchie Cat Eye in 2 coats both magnetized and unmagnetized plus glossy top coat. Removal will be slightly on the more difficult/messy side due to the glitters.

 Zyler Cat Eye

Description: a warm orange-copper polish with a pale copper magnetic stripe, scattered holographic micro-glitters and red-orange iridescent shimmer

Zyler Cat Eye Similar to Menchie Cat Eye, I did not expect to like Zyler Cat Eye so I went into swatching it with fairly low expectations. I didn’t think this was a color for me personally. Boy was I wrong! This turned out to be my favorite polish in the release.

The formula was similar to Menchie Cat Eye, so on the thicker side but self levels and applies really nicely. Magnetized, you get more of a bright copper look on the nail which I really liked.

It was a little bit more opaque than Menchie Cat Eye so it is passable in one coat, assuming you don’t magnetize it. You get a little bit of brush strokes through the magnetic shimmer but they do disappear as the polish dries down.

Like the other magnetics, this one does benefit from holding the magnet on the nail for the full 60 seconds that the brand recommends. I think I managed somewhere between 30-50 seconds for my photos. I used an arc style magnet for these photos.

My photos show Zyler Cat Eye in 2 coats both magnetized and unmagnetized, plus glossy top coat. You will want top coat to smooth everything out

Cracked Taco Shell

Description: a black crackle topper

I love crackle toppers so I knew that I HAD to have this one, despite already owning 4 other black crackle toppers. This one had a great quick drying formula, I liked how easy it was to get a full coverage swipe across the nail with the wide brush.

I feel like the polish dried a little bit faster than some of my older crackles but that could be due to the fact that most of my crackle polishes were released in the 2010s so they have thickened up a little bit.

I used one coat of Cracked Taco Shell over Sweet & Sour Lacquer’s Mermaid Melody (use code SweetNicole10 to save 10%) without any top coat. I would actually recommend wearing top coat over this topper. It dries down matte and slightly textured. I just didn’t because I used this as a base for some nail art for my Fandom Flakies post.

Final Thoughts

I am not generally the biggest lover of magnetic polishes, I like them in theory but they’re probably one of my least reached for finishes when it comes to wearing polish in my free time. I have a hard time sitting still for the 30-60 per nail that is required of them so outside of reviewing them, I just don’t reach for them often.

I know a lot of people weren’t a fan of the last group of magnetic polishes Holo Taco released in the Magnetic Magic Collection. I do think these magnetize easier than those did but they do still require holding the magnet on the nail for the 60 seconds Holo Taco recommended with the Magnetic Magic polishes. I usually do 20-30 seconds for my magnetic polish swatches and that is a task for me because I don’t sit still well.

Overall I thought this was a nice release but not one for me personally. I think if you like magnetic polishes, these aren’t bad ones to have. Zyler Cat Eye is 100% my favorite from the magnetics.

As far as the crackle polish goes, I am really hoping Holo Taco releases more of them! Especially if they have holographic elements, glitter or shimmers added.
